Format: Paperback

The Dead Girls Detective Agency trilogy charts the adventures of teens in NYC, tasked with solving the mystery of their murder from beyond the grave.

Lorna has been dead long enough to know the Rules. But that doesn’t stop her showing up at her little sister’s high school production of Hipster Hamlet. But when she arrives, a lighting rig comes crashing down on the lead cast member mid-performance. All fingers point to Lorna’s little sister, Emma, and it’s up to The Dead Girls Detective Agency to find the real culprit. Unless Em’s not as innocent as she looks?

Charlotte wants to help Lorna prove her sister’s innocence, but she’s completely distracted. Not only is her ghostly-self suspended in this New York-limbo-hotel, she is having to deal with the fact that the very alive love of her life has moved on. And then there’s the cute dead boy Edison, who seems to be acting nice all of a sudden. But is Charlotte ready for a new boyfriend, and one with such a murky past?

Excerpt from Dead Girls Walking
by Suzy Cox

‘I’ve never been at a murder scene this early before.’ Nancy’s  confusion  was  clearing;  her  detective  brain kicking into gear. She’d switched from mine and Lorna’s hurt best friend to head of the Agency the second Edison gave her the note.
‘Disturbing doesn’t cover it. The body’s over there under that blanket, like, five steps away.’ Lorna unneces-sarily pointed at the only dead-girl-shaped object within a trillion block radius. ‘Like, she’s still hot.’
Edison’s attention shifted from me as he raised his eyebrows with a mischievous grin. ‘Hot? Not another cheerleader? I know those girls are about as annoying as a room temperature IQ, but surely someone could give the pompom and peroxide posse a break from homicide for one week?’
Urgh. Honestly?
‘Edison, look—’ Nancy ignored his lame-as attempt at a not-even-joke ‘—what Lorna’s trying to communicate is that we’re incredibly lucky to be on a case this early – we actually saw the murder for the first time ever!’
Wow, was she enthusiastic now we knew this wasn’t just some ‘tragic accident’, but a case to be solved. Ithought back to my first day in the Attesa when Nancy had patiently explained that yes, I was dead, but hey, she’d help me get through this – like losing your life was no worse than losing a button off your favourite shirt.
‘So these seconds now,‘ Nancy said, ‘the ones I am currently wasting talking to you, Mr Hayes, are vital. The police aren’t here yet. No one even knows it’s a murder but us. We need to secure the crime scene so it doesn’t get contaminated. Or try to possess some of these kids so we can interview everyone who wasn’t onstage. Or – seeing as we can’t photograph the scene – write down everything so we can remember it later.’ She pulled her trusty spiral notebook out of the pocket of her A-line denim skirt.
‘Been ODing on late-night cop shows again, have we?’ Edison gently leaned on the tower. My tower. His arm brushed against mine as if it was the most natural thing in the world. ‘Or you could just wait until the profes- sionals arrive and copy their homework.’
Nancy scowled. Ever since the Tess Incident, she’d gone from ignoring Edison when he acted more Hyde than Jekyll, to actively looking like she might slug him. Which made me love her even more. Her Geekiness was way too professional to ever admit she was sore at Edison for the part he played in what happened to my Key, but the fact she so obviously was, was one of the gazillion reasons she ruled.
‘When did this arrive?’ Nancy coldly waved the letter at Edison.
He shrugged again. He was an evil Key-stealer ’s ena- bler. His shrugs were definitely not cute. ‘One port and half a smoke ago.’

Edison reached into his other back pocket and pulled out a beaten-up packet of cigarettes. He absent-mindedly tapped the bottom of the box until a white stick jumped out and into his other hand, before bouncing it into his mouth. No matter how often he smoked – and it was way too much – Edison never seemed to run out. I’d been too out-of-my-mind mad at him for the last few weeks to ask how his little party trick worked. Maybe dying with an object on your person meant you had a supply of it forever. Was that why the ancient Egyptians buried their dead with gold and wine and all that jazz? Lorna must be majorly pissed she’d not been holding a suitcase of Chanel when that crown came down on her lovely head.
‘Please don’t smoke in here, Edison.’ Nancy scowled again. ‘It’s not allowed and you know it. This is a place of learning, not a dive bar.’ ‘C’mon, Nancy, what’s it going to do to the students – kill them?’ Edison gently bit down on the cigarette as he lit it. ‘Because the last time I looked, there seemed to.

When Paige finds an old mix CD in a local charity shop, she can't help but wonder about the boy who made it and the girl he was thinking of when he chose the songs. The tracks tell the story of a boy looking for his perfect girl, a girl to understand him, a story of being alone, being let down, misunderstood and not knowing where to turn.
Following the clues of the music, Paige sets out to find the mysterious boy, going from gig to gig and band to band, hoping to track him down. But will who she finds at the end of the trail, be the boy she's imagined?
Another perfect girly read from Queen of Teen nominee Cathy Hopkins!

The Review:  The Playlist for a Broken Heart follows the life of 15-year-old Paige. Paige has it all, a big house, a loving family, she just got the lead in her school’s play with the hottest guy and she has a great best friend, well, that is until she find out her father lost all their money in the stocks and now they are having to move to bath to live with her aunt because her family can no longer afford the life they live.

Upset about moving, it takes Paige a while to settle in and it’s only when she finds a mixed tap in a charity shop does she finally have something to focus on – she wants to find the boy who made it, because she thinks he can understand her like no-one else. Can Paige find the boy or is it a lost cause?

Kathy Hopkins writes a relatable story with The Playlist for a Broken Heart. It’s relatable in the sense that many children go through what Paige does – up and moving to a different City, leaving everything behind she was familiar with. I though Kathy wrote Paige’s emotions just right, especially for her a 15-year-old-girl. Paige is likable character – one that continues to grow throughout the story, and I was glad when she found the mixed tap so she could finally focus on something that surrounded her life in Bath. Her journey for finding the boy who made the mix tap wasn’t an easy one. At one point I honestly thought she might be disappointed with who the boy was because there were a few guys in her life that while I liked them as friends, I didn’t think they suited Paige as a boyfriend. As a reader, it wasn’t actually that easy to figure out who this mystery boy was. You go back and forth thinking “is it him or him” and it’s entertaining to find out the truth.

The story doesn’t just only focus on Paige’s mission to find the boy, it’s also about her family getting a second chance and I was glad that even in the dark times, her family remained strong and could come out with a second chance and the chance to start over.

In all, The Playlist to a Broken Heart is an entertaining and lovable story – one that any teenager could relate too and is a good read for older YA fans who want a light and fluffy story.

As members of the Phoenix, Jeric and Leni are thrust into their new lives, expected to lead Earth’s Guardians. But Leni struggles with trusting her own soul, and Jeric is more concerned about keeping Leni safe than meeting others’ demands. When Darkness swarms Lake Haven, they embark on their first mission with little preparation and no idea which soul the Dark hunts.

Born and raised in Lake Haven, Bex hopes to escape her small-town life, ideally in the arms of her soul mate. She knows he exists, and her heart aches with the need to find him. When her long-lost mama calls to announce she's knockin' on death's door, Bex reluctantly makes the trip to see the uncaring bitch (bless her heart), only to be knocked off her feet by the sexy and charming Dr. Mason Hayes. Is he really The One?

Leni’s soul felt an instant connection to Bex, but if Bex found her soul mate, she isn’t their mission. So who is, and why does Leni instinctively feel drawn to her? Can Leni even trust her intuition? And will Jeric step up and lead when the time comes or continue to hold them back?

If they don't learn to trust themselves and each other quickly, Darkness will claim them all…along with the rest of Earth’s souls.

The Review: 4.5 flowers!

The Space Beyond is the second book in ‘The Book of Phoenix’ series and gives us a much different story this time around. In book one, we had met Jeric & Leni as they find out that their souls are connected in a big way and they will always share that connection & always have. It’s through ‘the book of Phoenix’ that they are able to remember some of their past lives with each other and what they fight for. Now that things have settled with their transformation into Guardians, they try to remember more from their lives in an attempt to unlock any possible powers/gifts to further their strength as guardians and in doing so, come across another pairing that could be important to the group – Rebethannah & Nathayden – but something isn’t right with them and with no other clues, they have to go where they’re needed and that is back to Lake Haven where the Darkness is amassing.
In Lake Haven, Bethany/Bex remembers Leni & Jeric (which is unusual) and Leni is sure this Bex is Rebethannah, she feels the connection and the Darkness is hanging around… but does Bex feel the connection too and does she feel the pull of a soul mate? Bex is at risk of succumbing to the dark with her early years being so troubled, her mother currently dying of the consequences of the lifestyle she led and the cost of that lying solely on Bex’s shoulder but she has two men willing to be her ‘knight in shining armour’, the problem is which of the two is ‘the one’?.
Leni knows that she has things to learn but the biggest thing is to believe in herself….. can she do that in time to save Bex and reunite another pair of twin flames to help in the fight against the ‘Darkness’.

I really enjoyed this sequel and as I said, it had a different feel to book one because in this it wasn’t all boy meets girl, they clash, realise they’re soul mates, evade the bad guys, connect and live happily ever after….there are real issues here, very serious issues that are addressed and made this journey a very emotional one. Bex is a girl all too familiar – dragged up by a mother hooked on drugs/alcohol, forced to become the caregiver to her sister who was only a year younger only to be abandoned by her mother at age 8 into the care of her Grandmother where her life did get better, but only slightly. Her life is hard, living in a trailer, working 3 jobs to pay for her mothers’ care even though it goes against all of her principles to give the woman anything – so she is definitely ripe for the picking when Darkness descends upon Lake Haven and it’s easy to see how she would fall for two men that would promise her the world because she wants ‘the one’, she believes in soul mates but is disillusioned with life. For all that she is down on her luck & had a rough upbringing, she is still a fun character with a great attitude and you can see what type of girl she could be shine through now and again giving us a glimpse of the Bex that could be. It was a surprise to see that Bex was back in Leni & Jeric’s lives following their ‘misunderstanding’ in book one but it was great to be back in a familiar place and was a great way for Leni & Jeric to start believing in themselves and their capabilities. I liked that even though most of the focus was on Bex, that we still got quite a bit from those two aswell, seeing the problems and progress they’re making in their new position as guardians. There were still some hot moments between them were we could feel their love shining through too. The focus of this book is obviously on Bex and what she goes through, not so much the romance this time around as her drama more than makes up a big part of the storyline, yes she does get some sweetness but she also gets a lot thrown at her too and as a reader, I totally went through that with her – so be prepared for a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It’s hard to give away the slightest thing when it comes to her ‘soul mate’ because as I mentioned – there is more than one vying for that spot – plus when you have the background of Rebethannah & Nathayden, you will understand how that will interfere with the present but I will say that it was different to book one in a big way and it opens up the world a bit more, it also brings ‘the book of phoenix’ back into the light and we learn a few new things about a special group of guardians that Leni & Jeric must learn to lead. I thought the issues that were dealt with throughout were handled very well and created a very emotionally charged finale that will leave you both devastated and hopeful, connecting to Bex on another level….. but also leading to a cliffhanger that will be felt by all and leave you desperate for book three.

HEADLINE ETERNAL: Find your heart's desire...

The Perfect Play is the first in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jaci Burton's "must-read" (Fresh Fiction) Play-By-Play series, and an erotic story about love and the games people play from the queen of contemporary sports romance. Perfect for fans of Lori Foster, Maya Banks and Jill Shalvis.

Could love throw this all-star off his game?

For years Mick Riley has enjoyed the fame, fortune - and girls - that come with being a pro athlete. So he's surprised to find he wants more than a one-night stand after a steamy and passionate encounter with confident, beautiful Tara Lincoln.

Too bad Tara's not interested in getting to know football's most notorious playboy any better. As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing she needs is to be thrust into the spotlight of the jet-set lifestyle of a heartbreaker like Mick Riley. But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind . . .

Keep to the field with the next in Jaci Burton's Play-By-Play series or get off the beaten track in small town Oklahoma with Hope Flames, the first in Burton's new contemporary romance series.

The Review: Sizzling hot, emotional and damn right sexy, The Perfect Play is an unputdownable book once you start reading!

Mick Riley has it all, the perfect life, a fantastic career, and more money that he could possibly need and women throwing themselves at him. However, once Mick meets event planner Tara Lincoln, who is a single mother trying to support her teenage son; he realizes he’s not happy in the life he’s living. He’s missing something and that something is Tara. Once she’s in his life, Mick cannot let her go and continues to peruse her even though she is reluctant. Can Mick get the girl of his dreams he didn’t even know he was waiting for – or will Tara’s reluctant stop them from having the happiness they both deserve.

The Perfect Play was my first venture into Jaci Burton’s work and I have to say, I bloody loved it! At the time of reading this, my last few reads had been just okay, but this blew my socks off and I seriously couldn’t put it down because I found the writing and the story so addictive.

I find the more and more I read of sport related themed books, the more and more I enjoy them, which is weird because I’m not one for watching them on TV. I think it all comes down to how the author corporates the sports into the book and I loved how Jaci worked it within this stories. It was just enough information to keep you entertained throughout and constantly root for Mick.

The main of the story is about the relationship between Mick and Tara – both I loved. Their story was emotional and super intense. And I loved every minute of it.

In all, this was definitely won't be the last Jaci Burton book I read!

A Review for White Trash Beautiful (White Trash Trilogy #1) by Teresa Mummert

Pages: 240
A word-of-mouth bestseller that’s captivating readers with its honesty, grit, and headstrong heroine, White Trash Beautiful is a story for anyone who has ever felt trapped in life, cheated by love—and longed for something more . . .

Cass Daniels isn’t waiting for her knight in shining armor. She knows that girls like her don’t get a happily ever after. Not if you live in a trailer with your mom, work at a greasy spoon diner, and get leered at by old men. Maybe that’s why she puts up with Jackson—her poor excuse for a boyfriend, who treats her like dirt. Cass has learned to accept her lot in life. That is, until he walks into her diner. . . .

His name is Tucker White, and he’s different from any man Cass has ever known. Tall, tattooed, and bad-ass gorgeous, he’s the lead singer of the rock band Damaged. From the moment they meet, Tucker sees something in Cass he just can’t shake. Something beautiful. Something haunted. Something special. And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in. . . .

The Review: 2.5 Stars!

I’d heard a lot about White Trash Beautiful before I started it, so my expectations were pretty high, but I didn’t really connect with the story as much as I hoped I would. It was an okay read but I didn’t think it stood out compared to some of the other NA books I’ve read.

The story follows a waitress named Cass Daniels. Cass is trying to save as much money as possible so she can leave behind her drug addict mother and boyfriend, who are happy with their trailer trash life. Cass never believes she will amount to anything, because she’s been told so many times that are she’s nothing – then she starts to believe it.
It’s not until Tucker White gets Cass’s attention when he visits the diner she works in, and he’s determined to get what he wants….and he wants Cass. But can she leave everything behind that she’s ever known.

Cass was probably my main issue with the book. I didn’t really like her. I did not understand any of her reasoning’s for doing the things she does. She stands by her boyfriend even while he beats her and keeps feeding her mother drugs. He was an utter loser but she kept going back to him – even though she hated her life. Tucker was a life saver for her – without him she’s still be living in the life she hated, although I do believe she had the strength to stand up for herself, but she choose not to. I think the main reason I didn’t like Cass was because of how weak she was. I like to read about characters that are strong – not ones that are ready to give up. And Cass was one of them and the only thing keeping her going was Tucker.

Tucker was okay. He came on very strong to Cass from the get-go, I guess that was to show he had an instant connection to her, but I found myself rolling my eyes at the whole situation. The words that came from his mouth were very unrealistic and I just thought the whole a fairy-tale theme didn’t worked well…not for this story anyway.

In all, I’m sad I didn’t enjoy this more because as I said, I was really looking forward to it, but try it for yourselves and see what you think.

Thank you to The Hot Bed for giving me the opportunity to review this book, in exchange for an honest review.

 missed first encounter.....

Colliding with a second chance.....

On the heels of graduating college and trying to cope with her mother's death, Emily Cooper moves to New York City for a fresh start.

While harboring secrets of his own, Dillon Parker takes care of Emily through her grief. Knowing he can't live without her by his side, he's sweet, thoughtful, and everything Emily has ever wanted in a man.

Until she meets Gavin Blake-a rich and notorious playboy who is dangerously sexy and charming as hell. Emily tries to deny the instant connection she feels, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome is not inclined to let go so easily. Recovering from his own painful past, Gavin will stop at nothing to win Emily over.

This unexpected encounter compels Emily to question her decisions, forcing her to make a choice that will destroy friendships, shatter hearts, and forever change her life.

The Review: Needing a fresh start after her mother's death, Emily Cooper heads to New York City to be closer to her boyfriend and her best friend. While working at her new job, it's not until Emily unexpectedly meets Gavin Blake that her life starts heading in a complete whirlwind direction because all though Emily is happy with Dillon, but the attraction to Gavin is instant. While trying to fight whatever feelings she has to Gavin, Emily can't help question everything that has lead her to this situation.

Love triangles - most people love or hate them. Me, I'm in the middle. I believe as long as the author can deliver the story correctly, then it's a winner. Collide for me was definitely a winner! However, while there wasn't really a choice for me - of course I'm going to go with the tall, dark and handsome stranger and not the over possessive controlling jerk that Emily was with. But, I still could completely see why Emily was at a constant battle with who she should be with. Dillion had supported Emily though out the tough times and Gavin was a stranger who she had only just met. I was constantly rooting for Gavin to get the girl - you will see why when you read it - but, it's just impossible to ignore the connection between him and Emily.

I really liked Emily. I really felt for her situation but I thought she dealt with it as best as possible. I liked her as a character and I was always rooting for her. I also really enjoyed the relationship she had with her best friend too.

The story itself was somewhat predictable but the cliff-hanger at the end is a complete jaw-dropper. There was a good few twists and there is enough sex scenes to keep you very, very interested!

In all, Collide was a good read - one that I'm interested to read more in.

Together with a car thief called Jay, Liva manages to escape the massacre but now the two of them are alone in New York, trying to outrun and outwit two killers who will stop at nothing to find them.

When you live on the edge, there’s a long way to fall

We run, Jay clearing a path with his free arm and shouting at people to get out the way. We slam through a fire escape by the toilets, ricochet off the brick wall in front of us and then hurdle a couple of stunned people sitting on the ground outside having a smoke. Behind us I can hear yelling and doors bashing against concrete. We hit the street, the noise of the club blazing around us. The security guy on the door frowns at us as we go steaming past him and I feel the familiar spurt of adrenaline pushing me on, pounding through my veins, making my legs feel like they’re made of air. Jay’s hand is tight around my wrist and he yanks me hard around a corner and down another alleyway.
He pushes me behind an enormous dumpster that offers us some cover from the street and crushes his chest against mine as he presses us both back further into the shadow. His forearms come up on either side of my head, as though he’s bracing us for a crash, and he ducks his own head so I can feel his breath hot and fast against my cheek. My heart is hammering hard and sweat trickles down my back. I strain to listen. Are they following? Just then we hear footsteps pounding the sidewalk. They come to a halt right by the entrance to the alleyway and Jay presses further against me, the buttons of his jeans cutting into my waist, my forehead against his collarbone. Neither of us breathes. My hand slides down Jay’s back and closes around the butt of the gun. He hadn’t thought to draw it. I ease it out as he tenses and pulls back enough that I can see the whites of his eyes. He gives a tiny shake of his head and puts a finger to his lips.
I stare up at him and we wait, listening, me with the gun still in my hand, my finger sliding the safety free, Jay still pressing me tight up against the wall.
The voices start arguing about which direction we’ve gone in. Someone takes a few steps into the alleyway but stops just an inch or so shy of seeing us. I hear the sound of a zipper and then the sprinkle of urine spraying against metal. I wrinkle my nose and press my face into Jay’s T-shirt.
If he takes one more step he’ll see us. I picture what I’ll need to do. If I can push Jay aside I can aim the gun and we can hopefully hold them off until we’re far enough away to make a run for it.
We listen in absolute silence as the guy re-zips himself and heads back out towards the street. The three of them talk some more – though I can’t make out what they’re saying – and then finally, after what feels like an eternity, they walk away. Jay’s shoulders drop fractionally, but he doesn’t take
a step back. No, he keeps me pressed up against the wall. And I notice that we’re both breathing fast again – as though we’re still sprinting. I tip my head back against the brick behind me so I can see his face. He’s looking down at me, and in the shadow all I can make out is the strong line of his jaw, the soft curve of his lips. I can’t read his expression. But I can guess at it.
He shifts his weight slightly and his thigh presses against my hip. I draw in a breath. My free hand – the one not holding the gun, rests on his upper chest. I slide it up and over his shoulder and with my eyes still on him I pull him even closer, until he’s pressed completely against me and I can feel
the hardness of muscle through his T-shirt and his jeans. My heart explodes in my chest as I tilt my head back further, reaching on tiptoe, and his mouth finds mine in the darkness.

One terrifying premonition brings them together. Another will threaten their future.

Books of the Kindling, Book 2

Do dreams come true? Dr. Daniel Woodruff hopes they don’t, because his dreams predict a devastating future for him, for those he loves—and for the planet.

His latest premonition, which blows a huge crater in his eroding sanity, holds a singular horror—the loss of a wife and unborn child. Yet another reason he can let no one into his chaotic life, least of all a perky, persistent investigative reporter he finds simultaneously frustrating and fascinating.

Mel Noblett leaves no stone unturned in her one-woman crusade to save the environment. When a whistleblower in Italy proves too frightened to talk, Mel turns to a fall-back lead, an extremely eccentric, beekeeping professor who might just make the trip worthwhile.

Despite their instant attraction, Mel is relieved when Daniel keeps her at arm’s length. After all, she has a secret of her own—one that makes her preternaturally good at her job. And, when Daniel’s terrifying visions prove uncannily accurate and begin to revolve around Mel—it is a gift that could put her life in danger.

Warning: Reluctant seer of a bleak future meets petite force of nature who lights up the heart of his darkness. Where there’s smoke, there could be an unpredictable blaze of passion, but the rewards are oh, so sweet…

The review: Ah, it’s great to be back on Woodruff Mountain……
This time around we head to Italy first and to Mel Noblett, a journalist for all things environmental, a woman determined to shed light on any wrongdoings or environmental impact of pharmaceutical corporations… which is why she is in Italy, after been given a tip off that one of their own will turn over evidence that a certain company is not taking its responsibilities seriously and warning that the impact will be massive. When things don’t go according to plan, Mel heads off to hopefully get an interview from the elusive Daniel Woodruff - brother of Grace from book one and commonly known in his profession as ‘the Bee Whisperer’ – to see if he will hopefully shed some light on the plans to add antibiotics to honey, Mel is confident she can get him to talk….after all, she has a gift.
Daniel Woodruff is having dreams again, bad dreams that rob him of his sight and predict really bad things for the future both personally and environmentally. He knows he needs to head back to Woodruff, Grace is urging him to make peace with his gift and visit the ‘cave’ but to be honest – it’s a curse and he wishes he never had it! Especially now, it’s evolving, he’s having visions through touch that leave him debilitated but determined to stop events happening, if he can save only one person then it’s worth it right? But then he meets her, the one from his dreams, the one in danger, they have an instant connection and he wants her so badly ….. but he knows it can never be, he has to change the future, not just for her but for everyone and if he leads a lesser life because of it…so be it! Daniel thinks he can stop fate, but will his decisions affect the future for better or worse and will his feelings for Mel force him to take that chance and either live a life in love or loneliness?

As I said, it was great to be back in Woodruff but I enjoyed both locations and Florence sounds amazing!
I loved both Mel & Daniel and thought they shared a really good chemistry, it was clear to see that they would make a great couple. Mel had a vivacious character & demeanour and I liked her gift. Daniel came across as guarded which is understandable, but he was leading a half-life, letting his visions lead it, not allowing himself to actually have a life or take risks which is again understandable especially when he finds out the future and needs to stop things from happening and also trying to protect people by giving up his own chance of happiness. This is precisely why Mel and Daniel both do the dance of who will not allow the other to suffer – in different ways of course but with the same outcome and it’s only the interference of the mountain that will guide our two kindred spirits together.
The storyline was just as good as book one, it blends in so well with the overall feel of the series and the magical place that is Woodruff Mountain. One of the things I liked about book one so much is that it brings environmental issues to the attention of a romance reader and I really like this, book one was the effect of running a meth lab and its debris having an effect on the surrounding earth; who knew the impact it would actually have? This time around, it’s Daniels speciality – bees – and through this we are enlightened about how damage could be done through them dying out and also how corporate companies can interfere in a huge way with nature, whether it’s through GM crops or pushing meds into food sources – this is scary stuff and it really makes you wonder just what is going on and what these corporations can actually get away with. We automatically assume that the government will protect us and we won’t have to do anything to prevent these situations but I’m not so sure, I think we all need to heed the lessons on these books. As for the impact on the storyline – well imagine you gain some sensitive knowledge that could do a lot of damage to the reputation and livelihoods of people in powerful positions if leaked, then imagine what they would do to keep that knowledge from the public eye…. Yeah, our lead characters are about to find out but hopefully Daniel will come to terms with his gifts beforehand, before the horrible events that he has predicted unfold and possibly ruin us all. There isn’t as much focus on the mountain magic in this but its effect is felt throughout and there are some really good discoveries about how the mountain and Grandmother Lily expects peopIe to use their gifts. There are also a few startling discoveries that could affect everyone because as we all know – good is also balanced with evil – and just as people with gifts are willing to do good, there are also some willing to use them for their own purposes, which opens up lots of possibilities for future books and adversaries. For all I love Woodruff Mountain, I did appreciated the change of scenery too but when we returned, it was great to see what Grace & Nick have done following the events of book one by helping the land heal and making things right with the buildings. I also love the progression for Jamies’ character and seeing her blossom slightly, I’m expecting big things for that girl and hope one day, she will not only get gifts but also her own HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel though!
