Taran McLaine knows the agony of his incubus father's curse more intimately than his siblings. A century ago he murdered the only woman he ever loved. When he finds her alive, he's faced with the ultimate heartbreak. They have no chance at a future--he's done all he can to insure that on his day of judgment the ancestors will deny him a mortal life.

Years ago, Solene Larouche embraced Taran and the dark curse that cloaked him. She knew the risk she faced, but when Drandar pulls her back to life, she agrees to aid the demon and damn Taran to eternal suffering. One look at the man who held her heart so long ago, however, changes her mind. She must find a way to free him, even if it means condemning herself to eternity as Drandar's slave.

As Samhain approaches, Solene and Taran conspire to destroy Drandar. But will their combined effort enable them to kill the incubus or will they be cast into Drandar's own special Hell and all hope of their renewed love marked for death?

The Review: Marked for Death is the finale of the Inherited Damnation series and it was truly heart-warming.
The series is about 8 siblings who have been cursed because of their parentage – their mother Nyammah was a Celtic Priestess who became involved with Drandar an evil demon Incubus, who used her to breed with so that he could murder and steal their childrens’ power. He eventually murders their mother but not before she has spirited away 8 of the children…. but the children are cursed to live an immortal life, one where if they fall in love their dark halves will urge them to kill their beloved. However, if they find their soul mate, resist the pull to murder them and carry out a sacred ritual that will dole out damage to their evil sire… their immortal lives will be judged and if they have kept the balance between their light and dark halves – they will be rewarded with mortality and the love they gave it all up for.
In this final book we meet Taran McLaine who is perhaps the darkest of all because he did the unthinkable and murdered the love of his life a century ago, he knows there will be no redemption for him and that he will join his father. He is taken aback when he sees Solene Larouche again, how can this be that a century later, she lives? Solene has been brought back by Drandar, he wants her to help him in damning Taran and she agrees- that is until she sees him again. Knowing she can’t go through with it, she sees his torment and decides he needs to be freed so she calls in reinforcements to hopefully destroy Drandar once and for all….. but if she does, she damns herself to become the mother of Drandar’s next brood and if she doesn’t, it means Taran will die. Can they find a way to be free, to love each other again?
I have to say that this is definitely one of the stand outs of the series and just like Brigid, Taran isn’t all he appears to be. It’s a fact that parents can mess up their children and it’s never been clearer here. Taran has always been touted as the darkest of the siblings, one who embraced the darker nature and rejected his light side but we find that there is a reason for that and it’s all to do with Solene. Taran hasn’t ever really swayed one particular way, he hates both parents equally and felt abandoned by both – but of course it’s not all cut and dried and Taran has some soul searching to do. Solene was a great match for him and I really felt for their situation, at first she was all in to hurt Taran but then she realises what it has done to him so chooses to save him instead. The love they shared was very sweet and there seemed desperation to it like every minute was to be cherished because it was all going to end soon.
At the heart of this series are eight siblings, a family and that dynamic was broken because of how they chose to live their lives. Each book has been about them finding love and redemption which I love, but what I loved about this is that it gave the family a way to mend also and that is what warmed my heart. How easy is it to fall out with your brothers or sisters and be too stubborn to heal the rift? I know I’ve done it and because of Taran’s deeds, his siblings feel that way. So, it not only becomes a question of will they defeat Drandar but it also asks what the family is willing to do for one who has wronged most of them, will they come through and be there for him? Does he dare to hope when everything points to his demise?
There are a couple of little twists in this because let’s face it, everyone is desperate and Drandar isn’t as stupid as he seems. I really felt for Taran because even his evil sire wanted to see his demise, he had no hope either so he needed to be built back up again and there was only one person who could do that besides Solene, so it will come right down to the wire to see if all of them will come together to defeat evil, where you’re hoping and praying for the ultimate happy ever after for McLaine siblings so they can finally be free of their sires evil influence.
I have really enjoyed the series as a whole and it has been a solid four stars all of the way through. I have loved the characters and their history, their soul mates and how they love unconditionally, the fight between light and dark within, the Celtic magic and rites pertaining to the solstices, the battle of Nyammah and Drandar for their childrens’ lives and of course the romance and sexytime. I’d definitely recommend it!

Personal Hope:  That she can save Taran’s soul
Secret Fear:  She cannot save him before Drandar enslaves her

He hesitated. His glance crept to the door, inched back to her. The curling of one hand accompanied the brief pinch of his mouth before he huffed a sigh. “There are two ways this will end, Solène. I promise both.”

A shiver wafted down her spine. Death and pleasure—he didn’t trust himself with the former. The latter neither could control. They were too much a part of each other. The years between them, too many. She tightened her grip on the smooth wood beneath her palms. “The door is open. You won’t kill me tonight, Taran.” She knew one way to pacify the darkness in his soul and insure he couldn’t.

One hundred years, and he was once again where he had only ever belonged.

Solène broke the silence first. Her fingers tightened against the back of his palm, and her voice rasped like sandpaper in the quiet. “I have missed you too.”

The gentle sentiment snapped Taran out of his stupor. He jerked his hand away. “You are a fool then.

For standing against her brother, Brigid McLaine is imprisoned within her home. All she wants is freedom and the ability to follow her dark nature. But captivity poses a greater threat in the form of her handsome guard, Micah Nelson. Day after day of confinement leads her down a treacherous path of desire she can no longer ignore.

When Micah befriended Brigid six years ago, he never imagined the woman who haunted his every fantasy would end up being the very same demon he's employed to guard. During the forced confinement, he comes to learn the softer, gentler side of the woman who is despised by her family--and he recognizes the fear that keeps her chained to her sire. As their bond strengthens and passion ignites, Micah struggles to convince Brigid to confront her fears and escape her incubus father's dark designs.

Yet with the sabbat of Litha so near, one of them must make a choice. Will Brigid find the ability to confront her sire once and for all and embrace the lightness in her heart--or will Micah find the courage to let go of the one thing he wants most? Brigid.

The Review: With this being the penultimate book in the series the only two siblings left are the ones who have embraced their darker nature. We met Brigid a couple of books back when she tried to interfere in her brother Fintan’s ritual where she more or less handed him over to her father and for that she has been imprisoned in her home. She has been there for four months now, being held captive by Micah Nelson who knows all about Brigid, her siblings and her demonic father. Every day he wards the house, the windows, any way that she could try to escape but Brigid is just waiting for her opportunity.
During her months of captivity, Micah notices that there is more to Brigid than meets the eye and if he thought he was attracted to her when they met -6 years ago – it’s only going to intensify in close confines with each other. He knows he should resist her, she is known for her games and manipulation but there’s something that pulls him to her and makes him want to see the good in her. Brigid hasn’t really been given many breaks, no one has really shown her love or understood her, she is a slave to her father out of fear and because of the way she has followed him – she has no one to turn to. She is totally unprepared for the way Micah makes her feel, could she possibly be worthy of someone like him or should she listen to the voice of her sire and use him for her own gains….. the balance has always been one sided with Brigid, could what she does now tip those scales in favour of her life?
I have been waiting for the books to get to the darker two because I was very curious to see how it would turn out for them. I’ve got to say that I didn’t hold out much hope for Brigid when her turn to be judged came, what we knew of her wasn’t good and it’s hard to see how she could redeem herself. I think anyone who reads this will end up with some sympathy for Brigid, as the title of the book tells us – she is enslaved by fear – so I am definitely guilty of misjudging her but it’s only when she lets her guard down that she lets people see the goodness within her. Micah is the only one to see this and it takes time, he is keeping her prisoner but instinctively knows what she needs and when he gives it to her – it’s like turning a switch on. When so many people always speak negativity about you, you believe you are that person, when you’re threatened – you do what you have to in order to be safe but when one trusts you, gives you things that mean the world and sees you in a different light…. It can have a profound effect. When these two open up to each other, it is loving, it is sensuous, and unlike anything they have given to anyone else and you can feel the depth that their little gestures have on each other.
The storyline is basically about unravelling Brigid, we get a couple of flashbacks to scenes of importance that show her in a different way, that give us an insight into her life and the choices she has made but it takes us right until the very end to see whether she will go through with the bonding even though it’s clear she has feelings for Micah. I liked that Drandar was more present here and more manipulative of Brigid, he was very much the demon on her shoulder giving her prompts and ideas on what she should do but let’s not forget Micah’s kindness and how that would feel to someone never shown any. I really enjoyed the ending, I’m a little uncertain about a couple of points but nothing major and now we are left with one, one who is even darker than Brigid and the one who hopefully put the final nail in their evils sire’s coffin – I can’t wait!
Abuse of (Super) Powers

Magical gifts, super-human strength, power granted by the gods—insert your favorite.  Maybe it’s even mutant genes.  I’ve always been fascinated by these things, always wished I could have some sort of gift.  Frankly, I’ve always wanted to access the power of invisibility.  I think that would be the most useful.

We see this all the time in paranormal obviously.  The powers, not invisibility (rats!).  And most often the folks who abuse their powers are the villians.  Or the hero or heroine has done so in the past and is suffering some sort of doom-and-gloom, woe-is-me, shame for doing so.  That typically applies throughout all entertainment.  Loki is the bad guy, Thor is the hero.  Cat Woman (in her earliest incarnations) is vile.  Batman is celebrated.

But how often do we see our celebrated heroes deliberately abuse their power while in the course of the current events…and still remain a hero?  That idea nagged at me while I was developing Inherited Damnation.  The series, if you’ve not been introduced to it yet, involves eight siblings, all of whom possess some magical or paranormal ability.  Some are on the side of “light”, some on “dark” and some straight down the middle, “neutral”.  I tried really hard to not make my dark folks all angsty and brooding and despising their gifts.  And I tried to incorporate what I felt would be legitimate family dynamics given their opposites.

Then what to do with the neutral folks?  They’ve got to have some self motivation, right?  Some goal that threatens which side of the playground they’re playing on.  Daire, the hero in Fated for Sacrifice, is one of those neutral siblings.  He possesses the ability to alter memories and to influence people’s actions by slipping inside their head.  Nine times out of ten, he has used this gift to undo something his other siblings have done.  But always with the intention of maintaining the balance, never to sway something deliberately one way.  Particularly never to his own personal advantage.

Until he’s so desperate for mortality, so he doesn’t outlive his twin,  that he’s challenged beyond his own strength.  And suddenly, he’s faced with the ability to control the one person he wants more than anything – Reese Hamilton, who possesses the one magical item he desperately needs. All well and good right?  He could tempt her into bed, enjoy himself thoroughly, convince her out of the item she has, and have it all.

I had a huge amount of fun playing with the twists and turns and torturing this poor man who could, so easily, get what he wants.  Particularly once he gets inside her head and doesn’t know what to do with what he finds and her thoughts knock him sideways, throwing him completely off course – it can’t be too easy for our hero, after all.  Yet, as we all know, if superpowers are abused, there must be punishment.

His is quite fitting, I daresay.  But I’ll leave that for you to find out!

Isolde McLaine left Hatherly Hall and its darkly handsome owner Angus Shaw to escape her incubus father's curse. But when word reaches her that Angus is selling the piece of British history, she returns to talk sense into him. Little does she realized that returning to England will throw her into her sire's vile world and leave her fighting not just her heart and the danger of falling in love but battling to save Angus's son's life.

For three and a half months, Angus has done his best to put Isolde and the one unforgettable kiss they shared behind him. Yet when she returns, scolding him for selling his deceased wife's estate, he's sharply reminded of the passion she awakens inside him. Yet as Isolde pushes for him to leave his son's legacy intact, their battle of wills provokes far more than just desire. His son's nightmares have returned. And Isolde triggered the hellish dreams.

Torn between protecting his child and the love he feels for Isolde, Angus must find the strength to trust in Isolde before her demonic sire claims his son.

The Review: Doomed to Torment is the sixth book in the Inherited Damnation series…..
It’s Isolde’s turn for mortality in this book and I’ve been waiting for this one because Isolde is the most purest of spirit of the eight children and I wanted to know how she would struggle with her dark side because she is so light. She is also very much like her mother in looks and power so it was going to take a special kind of man for her. I thought Angus was definitely that man, in the first few chapters we come to see him as a devoted family man but one who is lost after losing his wife years ago and really in need of some love and guidance from someone special – a job which Isolde is perfect for. They have a history together and are both attracted to each other but Angus is hurting and Isolde is afraid of her dark side rearing its head but she is drawn back to him when she hears that he is selling his ancestral home, putting his child in boarding school and just giving up, so determined to make him see the error of his ways, she comes back to set him straight.
Their reunion does little to quell the attraction between them but the stubbornness of both will be a stumbling block. Angus’s son is crying out for motherly love but Angus is hiding everything that reminds them both of their wife/mother and is therefore not helping the grieving process for either of them. Isolde can see that they both need healing and has really taken to the little boy also but when his father is being so adamant things get done his way….her help is worthless. Whilst packing the estate up, trying to figure out what’s going on and resisting each other – they stumble across the scroll and Isolde knows what that means but she is also left in a quandary because if she gives up her immortality, she gives up her power and that power is the only thing that can destroy their father…. So what is she to do?
As the feelings deepen between Isolde and Angus, they gain clarity in their thoughts but is it too late?
I really enjoyed this instalment of the series and had been looking forward to this book. I thought the coupling of Isolde and Angus was perfect and Angus was just the sort of broken man that you would expect Isolde to be drawn to. Given their shared history it was easy to get into the feel of the relationship and enjoy the push and pull between them, we were treat to plenty of hot moments that really raised the temperature of the story. I also liked how Angus’s son was integrated into the plot, it gave this story something different and also linked well into Isolde’s history. We know the main storyline is all about the main character overcoming the curse of the family and in doing so, delivering a blow to their demonic father which will eventually free their mother’s spirit so she can finally be at peace and all of the books follow that formula. This was slightly different because I didn’t think Isolde really had to battle her dark side in this, her big dilemma was whether she would give up the power she held that gave the children the advantage against their father plus Angus had to go through his own process to be able to let Isolde in. The fact that the child also played a part was a plus for me and I really liked what the scroll had planned for them to break the spell. Drandars presence was felt throughout the book but not in the normal way and it was definitely a game changer for the end confrontation. This was another satisfying read though and considering the two siblings that are left are both loving their dark side….. I wonder how they will find their redemption.
Character Profiles:

Name:  Angus Shaw
Age:  Thirty-two
Hair: Thick short black hair

Personal Hope:  To do the best and provide the best for his son

Isolde shifted again, curling those long elegant legs into herself. The chill that lingered in the room steered  Angus’s  thoughts  away  from  Thomas  and back to the woman in the bed. He tugged the quilt out from under her and gently tucked it around her sleeping form. Resisting the urge to crawl back under those covers with her felt like someone had grabbed his heart and torn it into two pieces.

But he couldn’t.

He didn’t know how to stop from falling into her, and yet, if he lost Isolde, not even Thomas could ease that devastation..

Greatest Weakness:  Her capacity to love

Dismay surfaced, along with a healthy portion of regret. Edging out of his strong embrace, Isolde pushed at  his  shoulders. With  a  shaky hand,  she drew the back of her wrist across her mouth. “I’m not Camille, Angus, and you need to leave.”

He opened his mouth as if to object. Then the fire left his eyes, and those green portals glittered hard and  cold.  With  a  stiff  nod,  he  backed  away  and turned toward the open door.

The only sound that he objected at all came with the heavy thud of wood slamming against timbers.

Yet to love Reese will demand the ultimate sacrifice—his life.

Book #6, Doomed to Torment, will be coming on 5/12/15. Keep your eye out!

The Review:   Fated for Sacrifice is the fifth book in the Inherited Damnation series that follows 8 immortal siblings as they try to break the curse that was placed upon. The curse makes them immortal but also means that when they fall in love, their dark side and that of their father, compels them to accept the darkness and kill their soul mate or they can choose light – the side of their mother – and become mortal which delivers a blow to their demonic father that will eventually end him…. If all 8 find their true loves and release their priestess mother’s soul to find peace.
This time around it Daire who is about to get his wish come true. Daire has popped up in all of the books and has a really strong bond with his ‘twin’ sister. When she found her soul mate and became mortal, Daire took it badly, he always assumed they would find mortality together because of their bond and how close they are but when two more of their siblings were redeemed after her…. He was not pleased. Daire is about to find hope in Reese Hamilton, a lady he has known for years but belongs to another man…his friend in fact and even though they share a great platonic relationship, both have been secretly desiring the other.
When Reece and her man go camping on Daire’s land and she suddenly finds herself dumped and abandoned- she must try to find shelter at Daire’s cabin. After getting lost she finds an ancient cabin, but it will do for the night. As she tries to get some warmth, Daire turns up, knowing she is alone and will need help and the forced closeness they share that night will be the building block for something special to start……that and the discovery of a scroll…. A magical scroll that just might be what Daire has been hoping for.
I really enjoyed this story and its definitely fitting to the rest of the series. I liked the scenario to this – the way Reece is dumped in the woods and how it made her come to some realisations. You know where these books are headed so we know that Daire will show up and be her protector in her time of need *swoon*. The setting on the first night was great – they were stuck in an eerie cabin with only firelight and a nice cosy bed – I liked that Reece found her scroll when she was with Daire to set the seed of their relationship in his head from the start. They were characters that made sense to be something more, they shared that connection that makes their relationship believable and of course – lust filled with plenty of sexytime. I really enjoy the alternating point of views because I like being in both of their heads and Daire’s was really interesting in that he could be inside of Reece’s head too. We know that things aren’t going to run smoothly for them and just as Fintan had his sister put his mate in danger, Daire’s brother is on the scene to do just that for Reece. Daire does his own brand of messing up too and really needs to understand boundaries before he can ever be ready for his change.
I felt the danger element has been amped up in this book because now we have some of the darker siblings stalking who is left, hanging around at the times that the scroll would be due to appear and threatening whoever was in possession. They in turn tell Drandar and he is getting to know a lot quicker now than previous books which gives the overall feel of the book a more sinister feel. It was nice to see the others from previous books and see how they’re doing too. I’m always left wondering if they will succeed with every book and how it will affect their Father, there was more than one run in with him this time around and I was more than happy that the mate was more involved in the ending this time. I can’t wait to find out who’s next to find love and deal their demonic Father another blow.

A tremble rolled down her spine, into him. He wound his free arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace, steadying her. But all that accomplished was to meld every delectable curve against his body and taunt him with the promise of sweet surrender. When her subconscious rushed into his like an out of control freight engine, Dáire’s own balance  waivered.  Reese  surrounded  him.  Body, mind, and soul.

It was more than he could handle. More than he’d ever encountered before. Too much. If he didn’t pull  back  somehow, he  would become hers completely and his dark soul would have its wish.HHH
Name:  Reese Hamilton

Greatest Regret:  That she hasn’t stood up for what she believes in often enough
Secret Fear:  That she will end up disappointing Dáire

“I won’t kiss a man who smokes.” Reese’s eyes went wide as the confession burst free. Good grief, where  had  that  come  from?  It  wasn’t  like  he’d offered. Heat crept into her cheeks.

Once more, Dáire’s gaze sparked with dark intensity, leaving her feeling like he could read the sinful fantasies in her mind. “Maybe I’ll find that motivation.”

No. No, no, no—she was imagining this. They were not having this discussion.

Beth Whitley has finally put her life back together after her husband’s betrayal and is determined to piece together the clues to her past. But she never imagines an ancient scroll bearing the name of a Celtic ancestor will plunge her into a world of demonic ritual. Nor does she suspect that a kiss shared with genealogist Fintan McClaine will unveil the secrets of her dreams and a burning desire.

Fintan McClaine wants freedom from the dark curse he’s suffered for centuries. When Beth arrives with evidence that she shares ancestral ties with his Selgovae Celt tribe, he must confront the truth of his inherited damnation. As he struggles to convince Beth the truth within her dreams, she awakens a dangerous and forbidden yearning in his heart.

To save them both, Fintan must convince Beth to believe in herself and her ability to overpower his unholy sire. If he fails, he will remain an eternal slave to his tainted blood and lose Beth forever.

Book #5, Fated for Sacrifice, will be coming on 4/21/15. Keep your eye out…

The Review:  This time around we have Fintan McLaine and his chance to break the curse through Beth Whitley. As we find out, Beth has just found the script that shows she could break the curse but assumes it is part of her ancestry and who better to turn to than Fintan for some help in uncovering hers. The script isn’t the only thing that Beth needs though, she also has dreams… dreams in which she sees a ritual being performed, a horrific sacrifice and it all seems so real.
Fintan is glad to have Beth in his home once more, he has held a candle for her for a while and although he is happy to see her taking control of her life again – he isn’t impressed that some of talents are being wasted. Imagine his surprise when Beth turns up carrying part of his mother’s script and the key to unlocking his curse. He is even more taken aback by Beth’s dreams and the information she should have never known, it becomes clear that she has ancestors from his tribe but convincing her it was real and that he was part of that will be trickier than her thought. With the countdown to his birthday and a sister who is determined her sire will come to no more harm, Fintan has his work cut out for him.

I enjoyed the fourth instalment of the series and I liked how we delved more into the fateful night when all of the McLaines were cursed. Fintan and Beth are both interesting characters and it was easy to feel their connection. I liked that Fintan and Beth both knew each other beforehand because it gives them a history and they had already been bonded by friendship.  Fintan knew who Beth really was deep inside no matter what she tried to put across and really wanted her to follow her passion but Beth had a problem with letting go after living her life for others for so long. Beth is a pleaser and tried to please those around her but could be herself around Fintan and think of possibilities for the future….. with him maybe. Both are shocked at Beth finding the script although it takes a while for Fintan to confess what it is.
I really enjoyed how Beth tied into this story, so far in the series we have the matches being made with random people but this match felt more destined than the others and that is because of Beth’s ties to the Selgovae tribe. The dreams she was having were really graphic and horrid but they gave a great insight into what happened the night that the 8 children were cursed and what his father was capable of. It also gave us a glimpse into his mother’s final moments and how the children escaped seeing it through another tribe members eyes. Beth’s ancestor turned out to be someone very important and I like to think that Beth will be powerful in some way.
Throughout the book there is always a feeling that something is going to happen because Fintan’s sister Brigid is determined that her Sire will not receive more damage and decides to hang around to ensure that doesn’t happen. She was a constant threat throughout the book and we do get to see some of her deviousness – I’m looking forward to seeing how she will fare when her turn comes. Through all of the discoveries, confessions and romance we head towards an awesome climax and I loved that, another fight ensued with Drandar and someone is going to pay a price…. But who?
I’m looking forward to the next book in this very enjoyable series.

The chair creaked as she rose to her feet. A heartbeat later, her fingertip traced over the leftmost side of his tattoo. “And this…dagger…protects you.”

He bowed his head and let out an unsteady breath. Time passed at a crawl with Beth trailing her finger over the intricate loops and swirls, each feather-light touch churning the desire that simmered in his veins. He couldn’t move, could scarcely think, her accuracy so affected him. All he knew was she understood. She recognized the ancient markings his mother had placed on his back, and had placed on all his other siblings, to protect them from their sire until they were old enough to do so themselves.

It was far easier to comprehend the way Fintan’s wind-blown hair called to her fingers, beckoning them to push it aside so it couldn’t hide the sensual upturn of his incredibly warm mouth. Far easier to understand the simplicity of desire and the fact she very much wanted to experience that delicious mouth once more.

Changing the subject, she flattened her palm against his muscular thigh. “If you aren’t going to look at the scroll with me, instead of speculating about my past why don’t you go with the tangible?”

Head cocked, he peered at her quizzically.

“There was a lot of tangible earlier.” She ran her hand down the length of his thigh, savoring the feel of firm hard muscles beneath denim. “Kiss me, Fintan.”
