Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.

In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.

With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.

Even if it costs her eternity.

The Review: You all know how much of a fan I am of this series. Both The Goddess Test & Goddess Interrupted I rated 5 stars because I thought they were fantastic but now, here I am rating the third and final book; The Goddess Inheritance, only  3 stars. What is going on? I honestly don’t know but I do know that I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous books….and here’s why.

After the huge cliff-hanger in The Goddess Interrupted, nine months has passed and Kate is being held captive by Cronus – unbeknownst to Henry. Now here lies my first problem. I was excited to pick up right where The Goddess Interrupted ended, however as you can see, its set nine months after and Kate’s just about ready to have the baby. I didn’t enjoy this – I felt as though we missed out on keys parts of the story like Kate being held captive, Kate dealing with being pregnant etc. But instead the story jumped and we’re told what had happened.

My next problem came with the storyline. For the first time ever, I felt it was predictable. I have never ever thought of this series that way before. It’s one of the things I loved the fact that it was so unpredictable and I honestly didn't think there was many exciting twist and turns and for a third book, I felt it was very slow paced. The characters don’t know how to stop the war so there was a lot of thinking on their part. I wanted action, I wanted excitement and I wanted something epic but, unfortunately The Goddess Inheritance didn’t live up to my expectations. I also wanted more from Kate and Henry – I didn’t want to see the relationship drama like they had to go through throughout the previous books but again, it plays a big role, but this time Cronus is a part of it. The whole Kate/Cronus, Henry/Calliope romance thing bored me. You knew which way it would go despite the all the drama and evilness that was happening.

And my third problem lay with Kate. I’ve read a ton of reviews previously where people complained about Kate – that she’s whiney etc, which I never understood but again, for the first time ever, I seen it in her this time around. I felt she repeated herself a lot, she constantly questioned everything and it took a while for the Goddess in her to finally come out. Maybe it’s me, maybe I expect too much from final books because this isn’t the first time this happened too, so I am eager to see what everyone else thinks.

Despite my problems with this instalment, I’m still glad to see this series come to a close on such a high note. The ending saved this book for me, it ended perfectly and who knows, maybe one day I’ll try re-reading this series and hopefully change my mind about the last book.

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequinn Teen for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Author Interview with Aimee Carter

Aimee Carter
Today we have the amazing Aimee Carter on the blog. She is the author of The Goddess Test, The Goddess Hunt, Goddess Interrupted and her final book Goddess Inheritance will be released next year. She's here today to answer a few of our questions.
<
1) Hi Aimee, Can you tell me why you decided to write about Greek Mythology?
I’ve been a huge fan of Greek Mythology since I first learned how to read. It was never really a conscious decision to write specifically about mythology – rather, I had an idea about a girl making a deal with Hades, and it all snowballed from there.

2) Do you get emotionally attached to the characters when writing?
Definitely, though not enough to go easy on them! I figure if I don’t like them much, the reader won’t either, so there has to be some kind of emotional connection for me there, even if they aren’t positive emotions.

3) Which character do you think grows the most in Goddess Interrupted?
Kate, for sure. She’s thousands of years younger than just about every character in the book, and she still has a lot to figure out. Who she is, what she wants, what she’s willing to sacrifice to get it, etc.  By the end of it, she isn’t quite all the way there, but that’s what the third book (The Goddess Inheritance) is for.

4) Was it a hard decision to bring Persephone back or had you planned it all along?
It was a natural progression in the story for me. Henry is still in love with her, and it was a complication that had to be addressed sooner rather than later. Not just for Henry’s sake, but for Kate’s as well. And, in a way, Persephone’s.

5) Who's you're favourite Greek God?
I don’t really have a favourite, so to say, but I always did like Iris and Athena quite a lot. Hades would round out my top three.

Awesome answers Aimee and thank you so much for joining us today!

The Blurb from Goodreads: Kate Winters has won immortality. But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it. Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans. As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future. Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

The Review: "If I were a better man, I would be able to show you the love and affection you deserve. As I am not, I can only offer you what I'm capable of giving. But I assure you, just because I do not show it, doesn't mean I do not feel it.”

Last year Aimee Carter left me astounded when I read her debut novel The Goddess Test and now Goddess Interrupted is here and she has done it yet again. Goddess Interrupted is a captivating, intriguing and magical read – one that I managed to devour in 24 hours and I’m dying for more.

Kate Winters has spent the last six months on summer vacation, away from Henry as per their arrangement. But now it’s time to go back and be crowned as Queen of the Underworld and be forever tied to Henry. There is nothing more in the world that Kate wants than to be with Henry but when Henry starts acting secretive and distant with her, she starts questioning everything she was once lead to believe.  Soon she finds out that Cronus – The King of the Titans, is trying to escape his prison and he is hell bent on killing the one’s Kate cares about most.  When Henry is kidnapped by Cronus, it’s down to Kate to try and rescue him but she needs help from the one person she never wanted to meet…..Persephone’s…..Henry’s ex wife. Can Kate and Henry overcome the obstacles of their relationship and can Kate keep all her loved ones safe?

Goddess Interrupted is absolutely beautiful read and I loved every minute of it. I started reading it and I honestly couldn’t put it down but I have to admit, I was a little disappointed at the start of it. After the ending in The Goddess Test, I was expecting Kate and Henry’s relationship to be completely different because they are in love with each other now. So admittedly, the first few chapters threw me because everything wasn’t all hearts and flowers between them but, what I got was something so much more. It was so raw, emotional and real – that it was so heartbreakingly good and it bought me to tears a few times. Kate and Henry’s relationship is really put through the tests during this book and I felt for both of their situations but I’m just glad they became a stronger couple for it. Their moments together at the end of the book really were a joy to read, I loved every minute of it and I think Aimee Carter did a fantastic job creating a couple that do have faults but are perfect for each other in every way.

This time around we get to know our favourite Gods all the more and I thought they all bought a level of mystery with them. Each and every one of them has two personalities; their human side and their Immortal side, and trying to unravel them was really fascinating. I especially loved getting to know Ava better and of course, Henry was the best to get to know more.

What I enjoyed about this book so much was how unpredictable it is. I honestly didn’t know what was going to come next and let me say, I am so shocked with the results….but in such a good way that I need the final book now. Honestly, the ending of the book is going to blow you’re mind and leave you speechless – yeah it’s that good!

Overall, Goddess Interrupted is just as good as The Goddess Test if not, even better! And I cannot wait to see what is next installed for us.

The Blurb from Goodreads: It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.
Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.
Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

The Review: Well, what can I say. Not only do I love this book, but I love anything to do-or influenced-by Greek mythology; so naturally this book was right up my street. I've wanted to read it for so long, it's been sat on my shelf for ages, and I eventually picked it up and I was totally not disappointed with it.

The Goddess Test is a beautiful, fast paced and fascinating book. As I mentioned a minute ago, I love anything to do with Greek mythology and the Gods in particular. That's what made this book so fascinating, it was a fun new twist on the Gods, who they are, how they work etc.

Aimee Carter has manged to bring together a new world of the Gods. I found myself liking Kate immediately she didn't bug me one bit. I didn't find her irritating and all her actions were selfless. Even after finding out who the killer was she remained calm during the punishment and ultimately was brave enough to make the decision. She's a great heroine and one that I think most young girls will want to relate to. All the characters were gradually introduced and in the end who you thought were minor, actually had a bigger role to play in the story. I wasn't prepared for all the twists that Aimee Carter throws at you in this book, and I most certainly wasn't prepared to find out who were in fact the Gods, 2 especially shocked me. Excellent.

Now let me move on to Henry. Well, what can I say. When I think of Hades, I get the image of Disney's Hades, tall, ugly guy with fire for hair who's minions are called Pain and Panic. This Hades is nothing like that! He's tall, gorgeous, lonely and troubled. He lost the woman he loved and was going to give up and then Kate comes along. I loved how Kate and Henry's relationship started out as a friendship and gradually as Kate remains for the 6 months they end up falling in love and it was slowly built, it didn't feel rushed like some YA romances do. This romance was timed to perfection, and made you want them to just hurry up with that first kiss. Speaking of first kisses. That was a gorgeous moment and I had the whole scene playing out in my head. As I kept reading on I found myself looking forward to reading more Henry and Kate scenes; just as much as Kate looked forward to spending her evenings with Henry.

Overall this was a fun read and that's what I needed after having read Forbidden a week ago. I would totally recommend this to anyone who loves new and fun takes on the Greeks and their myths. For anyone who likes to fall for the dark and tortured guy (like me) this is definitely for you. Before reading this book I honestly didn't think I would ever say that I am definitely 100% in love with the Lord of the Underworld that is Hades.

I am immensely looking forward to Goddess Interrupted and 2012 publication is just too far away. Please hurry Miss Carter!

A review for The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

The BlurbEvery girl who has taken the test has died. Now it's Kate's turn.

Review: What an absolutely AMAZING debut novel from author Aimee Carter. And what a AMAZING start to a new unique series.

This book follows Kate and her mother moving to Eden on request from her mother as her last dying wish. When Kate enrolls at Eden High she is involved in a prank that goes horribly wrong, which leads her to meet a stunning and handsome stranger named Henry. Henry offers Kate a deal that could change her life forever - which she believes, couldn't possibly be real. Not only does she not believe, but she believes this is the worse situation possible, or is it?

To say I fell in love with this story would be a massive understatement, and not only did it blow me away with the new take on Greek Mythology but it was a story that had everything that I love. It had mystery, betrayal, sacrifice and lets not forget the romance. If every author could use their imagination the way Aimee Carter has, then I would be lost for words with every book I'd read. I could not believe how well this story was written - that I could actually imagine being right there in the very same room as the characters.

Kate's character comes so far as the story processes. She overcomes so many obstacles and trials but she still continues to fights for what she truly loves. She became such a strong character that I couldn't help but love her. And then there's Henry - Henry who is really Hades. If Hades was really like him, boy, I'm sure he would have every girl lining up to meet him. He is such a lovable character that you can't help but feel sorry for him - for all he's been through. And I'm so glad that he & Kate finally met.

I'll be honest and say, I was expecting the ending to the story to be quiet predictable, but the author threw so many twists and turns, it was impossible to know what was coming next. I sat gasping, crying and my heart was breaking in parts of the story.

Overall, I loved this book. One I will be recommending to as many people as possible. I can not wait to buy this when it hits the stores and I'm only disappointed that I now have to wait until 2012 to read the next book.

What a brilliant job Amiee Carter has done and Thank You to NetGalley and Harlequin Teen for providing me with a ARC copy.
