When 17 year old Liva witnesses a brutal murder she’s taken into police custody for her own protection.

But when the police station is attacked and bullets start flying it becomes clear that Liva is not just a witness, she’s a target.

Together with a car thief called Jay, Liva manages to escape the massacre but now the two of them are alone in New York, trying to outrun and outwit two killers who will stop at nothing to find them.

When you live on the edge, there’s a long way to fall

We run, Jay clearing a path with his free arm and shouting at people to get out the way. We slam through a fire escape by the toilets, ricochet off the brick wall in front of us and then hurdle a couple of stunned people sitting on the ground outside having a smoke. Behind us I can hear yelling and doors bashing against concrete. We hit the street, the noise of the club blazing around us. The security guy on the door frowns at us as we go steaming past him and I feel the familiar spurt of adrenaline pushing me on, pounding through my veins, making my legs feel like they’re made of air. Jay’s hand is tight around my wrist and he yanks me hard around a corner and down another alleyway.
He pushes me behind an enormous dumpster that offers us some cover from the street and crushes his chest against mine as he presses us both back further into the shadow. His forearms come up on either side of my head, as though he’s bracing us for a crash, and he ducks his own head so I can feel his breath hot and fast against my cheek. My heart is hammering hard and sweat trickles down my back. I strain to listen. Are they following? Just then we hear footsteps pounding the sidewalk. They come to a halt right by the entrance to the alleyway and Jay presses further against me, the buttons of his jeans cutting into my waist, my forehead against his collarbone. Neither of us breathes. My hand slides down Jay’s back and closes around the butt of the gun. He hadn’t thought to draw it. I ease it out as he tenses and pulls back enough that I can see the whites of his eyes. He gives a tiny shake of his head and puts a finger to his lips.
I stare up at him and we wait, listening, me with the gun still in my hand, my finger sliding the safety free, Jay still pressing me tight up against the wall.
The voices start arguing about which direction we’ve gone in. Someone takes a few steps into the alleyway but stops just an inch or so shy of seeing us. I hear the sound of a zipper and then the sprinkle of urine spraying against metal. I wrinkle my nose and press my face into Jay’s T-shirt.
If he takes one more step he’ll see us. I picture what I’ll need to do. If I can push Jay aside I can aim the gun and we can hopefully hold them off until we’re far enough away to make a run for it.
We listen in absolute silence as the guy re-zips himself and heads back out towards the street. The three of them talk some more – though I can’t make out what they’re saying – and then finally, after what feels like an eternity, they walk away. Jay’s shoulders drop fractionally, but he doesn’t take
a step back. No, he keeps me pressed up against the wall. And I notice that we’re both breathing fast again – as though we’re still sprinting. I tip my head back against the brick behind me so I can see his face. He’s looking down at me, and in the shadow all I can make out is the strong line of his jaw, the soft curve of his lips. I can’t read his expression. But I can guess at it.
He shifts his weight slightly and his thigh presses against my hip. I draw in a breath. My free hand – the one not holding the gun, rests on his upper chest. I slide it up and over his shoulder and with my eyes still on him I pull him even closer, until he’s pressed completely against me and I can feel
the hardness of muscle through his T-shirt and his jeans. My heart explodes in my chest as I tilt my head back further, reaching on tiptoe, and his mouth finds mine in the darkness.

Hey guys Jess here, sorry this is late today, but I actually wanted to share a teaser from the book I'm currently reading for review...so here are a couple of teasers from Michelle Hodkin's The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

So this first one comes from Mara and Noah's interaction. You'll either love Noah, or think he's a complete jerk from this quote, it really depends on how you want to see it.

His half smile morphed into a whole grin.
Noah: "Oh, I'm definitely a smuthound with daddy issues."
Mara: "I guess you nailed me, then."
Noah: "Not yet"

Ok this next one is between Mara and her (current) only friend at her new school, Jamie. This quote will also make you realise how sexy Noah actually is. Rebel without a cause and all that...

Jamie: "So it begins." Jamie sighed.
Mara: "Shut up." I turned around so he couldn't see me flush a deeper shade of red.
Jamie: "If he wasn't such a dick, I'd applaud," Jamie said. "You could start a fire with the heat between you two."
Mara: "You're mistaking bitter animosity for heartfelt affection," I said.

So there you go. Two quotes, from two different people but clearly about the same person. I loved these two quotes, they really made me laugh! This book is gripping, and I can't put it down!

That's it from me this week! Tomorrow there will be Waiting on Wednesday, as I'm still unclear on what boyfriend to use!

Jessica's Teaser Tuesday: Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

I'm reading this on kindle, so it's hard to go back and search for a quote. But I've just read one from Blake.  I really should start writing down amazing quotes when I'm reading. It would save a lot of time.

"My inamorata, you know where I'll be: where I'll always be. Waiting. For you."

I really want to share more quotes with you, but as I said I'm reading it on kindle and it's really hard to go through your kindle places for the quotes. There are some more amazing ones in this book, and a lot of funny ones. I'll see if I can get them for my review that will be coming very soon!

That's it for today!

Jessica's Teaser Tuesday: Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles

Mine today comes from the swoon worthy Caleb Becker, and I've literally just read the line and have fallen in love...

"Maggie-" He takes my hand in his and places my palm against his cheek roughened with a day's worth of stubble. He turns his head and kisses the inner, sensitive part of my palm, his eyes holding my gaze. "I should have done this a year ago." My heart flips over as he leans in and touches his lips to mine.

Well there you go. I friggin' swooned right there. And I love you Caleb Becker...I feel a book boyfriend coming on very soon. *Le sigh*

That's it for today!

Jessica's Teaser Tuesday: Double Clutch by Liz Reinhardt

Right people. It's just one quote today, and it comes from reformed bad boy Jake Kelley. It's an impressive moment, and I would have liked to have been Brenna at this very moment!

"Can I...". He stopped and his jaw relaxed. "Can I kiss you?" I didn't answer, and he didn't wait for me to. His hands caught me gently behind the neck and he pressed his mouth to mine, softly but firmly. Then he moved one arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. As the space between us disappeared completely, he deepened the kiss, urging my mouth open and sliding his tongue in."

Jessica's Teaser Tuesday: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

*Note: It's just one long teaser today guys, because I thought it was a beautiful moment that I had to share with you all...

" "My mother used to dance," I say. The words slip out, and I regret them almost instantly. But Alex doesn't question me or laugh. He keeps watching me steadily. For a moment he seems on the verge of saying something. But then he just holds out his hand to me across the space, across the dark. "Would you like to?" he says. His voice is hardly audible above the wind-so low it's barely a whisper. "Would I like to what?" My heart is roaring, rushing in my ears, and though there are still several inches between his hand and mine, there's a zipping, humming energy that connects us, and from the heat flooding my body you would think we were pressed together, palm to palm, face to face. "Dance," he says, at the same time closing those last few inches finding my hand and pulling me close."

There is more after that, but I'm going to stop there lol.

1) "I obeyed him and opened my eyes, trying to focus on his. I was lying in Adam's arms on the slipway. His face was so close to mine I could hear his ragged breath and taste the warmth of it. "There you are" He smiled in relief."

2) "The only blip in my new life was Adam DeRis. I couldn't get him out of my mind. From my first day at school, he'd occupied my thoughts. His staring and awkwardness combined with my constantly tingling hands made me hyperaware of his presence in school. I ached just to get a glimpse of him."
