Devoured by Emily Snow

Sienna Jensen had no plans to return home when she graduated college last spring—after all, her dreams lie in California. But when she discovers her grandmother’s Nashville home has been foreclosed, and the new owner has started the eviction process, Sienna has no other choice but go back to Music City. And she comes face to face with the flawed, gorgeous man she never thought she’d see again. The man who now holds the deed to her grandma’s estate.

When millionaire rock star Lucas Wolfe finds the outspoken redhead glaring at him from across a courtroom, he’s both infuriated and intrigued. He still can't get the night Sienna almost spent with him out of his mind, and the chemistry between them is as undeniable as it was two years ago. He craves Sienna more than ever. And just like everything Lucas hungers for, he’s determined to have her.

Now, Lucas will do whatever it takes to lure Sienna into his bed, even if that means making a deal with her: ten days with him, playing by his rules, and he’ll hand over the deed to her grandmother’s home. Though she agrees to the arrangement, Sienna is conflicted. Because of her duty to her family. Because of promises she’s made to herself and a past that still haunts her. And as Lucas’s game of seduction continues, and Sienna is introduced to his dark, erotic world and even darker background, she realizes that at any moment, she could be devoured.

Tidal
Tidal by Emily Snow

Now that Willow Avery is out of rehab, she's got one chance left to prove herself before she’s officially on every producer’s shit list. At least, that's what her parents and agent are claiming. She doesn't really give a damn if she never makes another movie or not—she just wants to get on with her life, get back to her friends, and find her next escape. But Willow is broke. And whether she likes it or not, acting is the only job she knows how to do.

When she accepts the lead in a beach drama, Willow finds herself in Hawaii. And in Hawaii, she finds Cooper, the gorgeous surfer hired to train her for her new role. With the bluest eyes she’s ever seen and the sexiest Australian accent she’s ever heard, Cooper’s different from the men she’s used to. He doesn’t want to use her. And he refuses to let her fail. But when an old friend re-enters Willow’s life—a friend whose toxicity she’s been drawn to time and time before and whose presence brings about the painful memories she's tried so hard to suppress—Willow will have to choose between the girl she was and the person she’s becoming. The lifestyle that helps her forget the pain and the guy she’s falling hard for.

The Review: “I love you Willow, but I can live without you. I just refuse to.”- Cooper

This is the first book that I've read by Emily Snow, and I really enjoyed it. The book from the beginning really captures some issues and really gets you stuck into the story.

Emily Snow has created a gripping story that deals with real life issues. As a story everything seemed really believable  all the characters had their own issues and in the writing style that Emily Snow has it really comes across in the pages and you just get very invested in all the characters on the page.

As the story evolved I came to like Willow as a character, although she's really f**cked up, she knows she doesn't need someone like Cooper to lean on and help her fix. She does it herself and in turn becomes a lot stronger in herself, I'm pretty sure it's an example women should take, that you don't always need a man to help you, you can if you set your mind to it, fix yourself.

I really enjoyed the slight twist regarding Coopers character, that really brought out a bit more drama, but also made it more interesting. Overall the relationship her and Willow formed was really well done, and I liked that he was always there when she needed him. But I also liked that he knew to keep his distance if she needed it.

I did feel that the book dragged in certain places and there were things that probably could have been dealt with better, but overall Tidal was a really good read and I definitely think it's worth a read if you haven't already picked it up. I liked the book enough, and I really enjoyed Emily Snows writing style and the way she tells the story so I'm definitely going to be reading more from her in the future :)

The Review: Firstly I’d like to say thank you to Taryn for introducing me to this book – I hadn’t heard of it before but as soon as I did, I knew it was one I had to read and secondly thank you to the author who send me a copy for review.

Devoured really lives up to its title because I literally devoured this book within the space of a few hours over the weekend. It’s one of them books that once you start and you can’t put down because of how good it is.

Emily Snow has created an intense, feisty and hot read with Devoured and I really did enjoy it. What stood out the most for me were the characters. I really liked both Sienna and Lucas and I loved the connection they had together. It was full of heat and suspense making their relationship somewhat nerve racking because you just didn’t know which was it was going to go. Now while I loved it, I did have a very small problem, and that was with the dominant/submissive role they seemed to have in the bedroom.  I didn’t really think it fit the story. Sienna is a very submissive character towards her family and friends, so I do see why Lucas thought he should take that role as her dominant. He wanted her to stand up for herself and stop letting people walk all over her. Again, I see why he did it, but I just didn’t think it felt right while reading it. However, I still enjoyed the overall relationship they had.

What I also enjoyed was the secondary characters. I always love having fun secondary characters and Sienna's Gran and her best friend were the perfect fit for this book even Lucas's sister was great too. I was on the fence with Sienna's brother but I guess he remedies himself towards the end.

Now the ending of the book; what a cliffy! Even though it's a happy ending, there's no real resolution. We don't know what happened with Lucas's ex-wife which is a major plot to the story. I need to know what happens next and that's why I am impatiently waiting for the release of Consumed; book two in the Devoured series.

All Over You (Devoured, #0.5)Author Interview with Emily Snow

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Of course! I’m from a really small town in Virginia (seriously, we have three stop lights). I married my husband a year after I graduated high school and we’ve been together ever since—he cooks yummy food for me and we have great kids, so it’s true love. I spend way too much time on Facebook, plus I have a slight Kindle book buying obsession. I’ve bought at least 30 books this month!

When did you first start writing?
Eighth grade. My best friend and I wrote a book on our school-issued Mac laptops about a pop star who falls in love with her best friend’s brother. The stories are stored away on floppy disks at her parents’ house. Yep, I said floppy disks. ;)

Do you have a favourite place to write?
My bedroom. I like to be really comfortable when I write so coffee shops don’t do it for me most of the time. I usually climb in bed with my laptop, make a blanket fort and write under the covers.

What’s the best part about writing a story?
Definitely falling in love again. Every time I start a new story, I get that giddy feeling of falling and I adore it.

Are you working on anything new?
If so, can you share a bit with us? Yes! I’m currently revising a New Adult novel called TIDAL. It’s about an actress fresh out of rehab who’s given a chance to prove herself in a new film, and the surf coach hired to train her for that role. She’s got a secret and he’s got issues, and I’m having a blast (crying a lot) working on the book.

Questions relating to Devoured

What was your inspiration for writing Devoured?
Little Red Riding Hood. I was watching a popular fairytale TV show with my husband when the idea hit me. I asked myself “What if the wolf (Lucas) wanted to devour Red (Sienna) for an entirely different reason?”

Was there a message you want readers to grasps?
One of the main subjects of Devoured is sacrifice. I can’t go into specifics without spoiling the book, but Lucas and Sienna have both made sacrifices—for entirely different reasons—and I definitely wanted my readers to grasp that theme.

Are there any parts of the story you feel particularly close to?
The music. I grew up around music (playing the piano and singing) so I love writing about it.

Can you tell us how you went about choosing Sienna and Lucas’s names?
I’ve always loved the name Lucas, so that was an easy pick. Choosing Sienna took a few more tries. She was originally Scarlett, but the name didn’t suit her personality. BFF and I brainstormed a list of names that meant “red” and shortly thereafter, Sienna was born!

Who would play your dream cast if your book was optioned for a film?
Yes! Sienna would definitely be played by Deborah Ann Woll. I love her on True Blood, and she’s who I envisioned as I wrote the book. Jared Padalecki would play Lucas (he’s gorgeous and tall and I want to run my fingers through his hair) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the perfect Kylie.

Are any of the characters most like you?
Kylie. She’s odd, likes to have a good time, and most importantly, she’s utterly devoted to the people she loves.

What’s your favourite quote from the book?
This is the second time this evening I’ve felt bad for offending Kylie and if this time is anything like the first, she’s about to punch me square in the vagina.
