The Blurb from Goodreads: Last year, Pierce died - just for a moment. And when she was in the space between life and death, she met John: tall dark and terrifying, it’s his job to usher souls from one realm to the next. There’s a fierce attraction between them, but Pierce knows that if she allows herself to fall for John she will be doomed to a life of shadows and loneliness in the underworld. But now things are getting dangerous for her, and her only hope is to do exactly what John says . . .

The Review: 2.5 - This was my first book by author Meg Cabot. I’ve heard so many great things about her work and so I was very excited to start ‘Abandon’. After reading the book though, I can’t help think I missed something….I just didn’t enjoy this book as much as everyone else.

Pierce, our main character is really likable. She’s been through a lot because of how she died and she actually still struggles with it. John is the love interest for Pierce and the story centres around how John saved Pierce but with saving her, come unexpected consequence. Consequence’s Pierce isn’t sure she’s ready for. Now I have to say, I loved the chemistry between these two characters and I enjoyed how they fought their attraction for one another but I just wish there was a bit more interaction with these characters together. I wanted to find out more about the souls and fury’s rather than the story involving high school.

The story goes back and forth from present to past and as much as I enjoyed finding out our characters past, I couldn’t help finding parts confusing. This is mainly due to Pierce, because while talking about something, she will start thinking of something in the past, so this makes the story pretty jumpy. I didn’t like how it jumped back and forth and I think I would of much rather of read a prequel before this that told us everything that has happened.

Despite all this, the ending of the book left me with some hope because the story picked up a lot towards the end. It has left me intrigued to find out more so I will be picking up the next book.

Thank you to Macmilliam for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
