Some scars run soul deep.

Preston finally knows what he wants, but it’s an uphill battle to win her confidence. Dacia has been hurt countless times, including by his own hand. Despite her accusations, he wants what’s best for her.

Dacia struggles with her inability to trust. Her mother has always been too wrapped up in her own life to pay attention. Her father only comes around when it benefits him. Dacia no longer believes she’ll ever come first.

Remus is a fugitive on Earth and in Faerie. His ungrateful daughter refuses to help, even when a mage nearly tracks him down. His best hope is pitting Dacia and Preston against each other.

Ultimately, Dacia must choose. Can Preston help mend her scarred heart? Or will her father’s corrupt plan spoil Dacia’s chance at happiness?

The Review: Mending Scars had been a book that I had been waiting for featuring two of the most prominent characters from Edenton – Preston and Dacia. To be honest, I didn’t see them working out because Preston was the fun loving playboy type who didn’t really do long term and we know that he had his heart broken a couple of books back by Amethyst and Jamie. Dacia was the resident psycho b***h who thought she could have any man she desired and woe betide any woman who would stand in her way, she’s spoilt, she’s selfish, she’s manipulative …..oh and she nearly killed him…. Great start! So you can imagine my surprise at this latest coupling. However, I may have been too quick to judge both of them as their scars are laid open for all too see as they help each other mend.
So, we learn a lot about these two throughout the book that really changes the way I viewed them – Dacia especially. Throughout the series we have seen some her displays towards the women she feels threatened by but we also saw glimpses of the real Dacia shine through now and again in her willingness to help in a bad situation or try to do the right thing - but with her history, people find it hard to believe in her and also she has a tendency to mess things up or be in the place where everything goes down. What we don’t know is that most of it is a façade, people constantly want to use her, abuse her and generally treat her like crap – including a self centred mother and a monstrous father – she was brought up not to feel, told that she was worthless so that now, she feels unlovable. It’s hard for her to believe that Preston wants anything more than a fling with her because let’s face it – his reputation precedes him too. When they both realise that they share a bond that is much deeper, they are willing to explore it but both of their pasts will get in the way.
I ended up really liking these two as a couple and it was a pleasant surprise, they did have a connection and they did have chemistry – so much in fact that they couldn’t keep their hands of each other. I loved how Dacia’s vulnerability shone through, I thought she came across as very genuine and definitely scarred by others. I also didn’t realise that Preston had issues too, he comes across as very cocky and confident but we get to see a total different side to him as well. They steamed the pages up with their sexytimes as they tried to identify what they had and they did a good job of showing each other their feelings rather than saying it.
The storyline was great – as always! It crosses over from the Others of Seattle series and connects them both well. Remus (Dacia’s father) is the enemy and most wanted for what they uncovered about him and if you thought his depravity was shown in previous books then you’re in for an eye opener when they start revealing more about him. A lot of the story is devoted to the search for him, there are a lot of near misses and scheming which brings a few of our favourite characters together in the mission to find him which was so good to read and keeps in with the family/community feel of the series. Preston also has ‘Daddy’ issues too as it’s finally revealed who his father actually is and we also find out how and why it was a secret – I have to say, I loved this part! I love a secret child plotline and would really like to follow that thread more now that things are out in the open. I was really satisfied with where the story went overall, there are a couple of bad guys that popped up in this that I would like to know more about too but as usual this book was full of everything you need for a good paranormal romance/UF, continuing the quality of the series that are so easy to read and what better way to pass a few hours than with the ‘Others of Edenton’……. I wonder who’s next?

Accept fate, or it destroys you...

Michael Nights hides his true nature. To protect his first love, his magic broke free, terrifying Amanda so badly she left. That day convinced him he was the monster she claimed. Horrified by the damage he could cause, he’s vowed to keep his power locked away.

Gwen Fate meets Mike at a party. One look and she’s captivated. Inherently curious, she wants to discover all of his secrets. What she learns compels her to help, whether or not he wants to embrace what he is.

Amanda deLuna has changed, but was it for the better? She arrives back in Seattle and offers Mike what he always wanted.

After finally learning to control his power, Mike will have to choose.

The life he wished for? Or his fate?

The Review: Accepting Fate is another fab read from Brandy L. Rivers.
This time around it is Michael Nights turn to find love. Michael hasn’t had much luck with women, his first love ran out on him when he turned into a monster to protect her and she subsequently became an addict because of that, giving Michael a healthy dose of guilt. He’s always known he had magic but his mother took him to have it bound so they could hide from their father much better, the binding was done at various points throughout his life so that his magic was kept safely hidden but when it was due for renewal, his magic flared… and it’s at one of those points that he unleashed it to save both he and Amanda DeLuna from a crazed man but in doing so, lost the love of his life. He vowed to never unleash his magic again because he didn’t want to be viewed as a monster.
Fast forward five years and Michael is doing ok apart from having his heart broken by Isa and wanting to grab his life back, he encounters Gwen Fate. After a one night stand with the super hot Gwen that had his beast clawing for release, Michael heads off to Edenton to have his magic bound again in what is becoming a weekly occurrence. However, the man who binds it, refuses to do it anymore because he wants Michael to accept who and what he is. Unbeknownst to Michael, Gwen is there and has heard all about his dilemma and it quickly becomes obvious that she is the only one that can help him accept and manage his power. But there’s another threat to Michael, not just from himself but from an old acquaintance……because Amanda’s back and she’s changed in more ways than one…. But with her also comes danger…. And that danger wants Michael’s power and will. Will his love for Amanda cloud his judgement? Or will his connection to Gwen let him finally accept his fate?

I’ve been waiting for this book because Michael is a prominent figure throughout the first two books and he was kinda heart broken in book two when Isa found her soul mate in Toryn. We all knew their ‘arrangement’ would end in tears because Michael had developed feelings for her so I’m glad we weren’t waiting too long for his story. We all know Michael as Roxy’s brother and that their absent father was totally evil and that their mother had hidden them from him…. Well in this we see to what extent she really went because she had bound his magic. Everyone is unaware that Michael has magic, even his own sister and that’s the way Mike would have it, he doesn’t want it or need it but its rising to the surface more often. I really enjoyed getting to know Michael’s character, I never thought he had any magic so this came as a surprise to me. You can really understand why he wanted to keep it under wraps and could empathise with him a lot. I liked how we got glimpses into his past through flashbacks scenes, his child self was cute in his view of his magic before it was bound.
I liked what Gwen had to offer him, her brother had been the same as Michael in his view of magic and it had gone wrong for him when he tried to suppress it so Gwen knows full well what she is dealing with and is in a unique position to help him, this furthered their connection together. I enjoyed their romance and sexytimes, they made a really nice couple and I’m glad Michael could have that, actually Gwen too because we get some of her history and she hasn’t had it easy on the romance front too.
I really liked where the danger was coming from, it’s hard to say anything about it because it would spoil it but their foe is very determined and will stop at nothing. The aim isn’t to kill Michael but to own him in ways you wouldn’t believe. I really liked the way Michael and Gwens stories entwined together (you’ll get it when you read it) like a six degrees of separation thing going on but I like it when they uncover shared friends, acquaintances, experiences etc. but it does make you wonder how their paths haven’t crossed before. I also appreciated the furthering of Roxy and Trevor’s story with some unexpected news that could be either good or bad depending on the way you look at it. The ending is concluded in a way but left open in another way - story wise and I’m really curious as to where that’s headed but for this…. It was another satisfying PNR read from a much loved world with awesome characters and great stories and as always – I’ll be waiting for more.

Accepting Fate - Teaser 3

EXCERPT

Two weeks ago…
Why am I here again? Mike was having a hard time playing aloof when the woman he’d pined for was clearly off the market. He knew it was coming, and had all along.
Isa stood in the circle of Toryn’s arms, a radiant smile on her face. They belonged together, always had. Neither was willing to admit it before for some ridiculous reason.
Resisting Isa was impossible. She was everything he craved and knew he should stay away from. She had a funny way of frazzling the wards Tremaine placed on him, bringing his magic to the surface. It had been ages since he wanted to tap into that power on purpose. He’d long since learned it was better to shut it down than play with fate. With Isa, he didn’t feel like such a freak because he’d witnessed some of her own weird issues.
Shaking his head, he went back to the makeshift bar, and ordered a beer from Toryn’s old boyfriend. Funny how he seemed perfectly at ease in the same room as Isa and Toryn. Then again, he was flirting with a gorgeous brunette, and a woman at that. At least someone was able to move on.
Leon acknowledged him with a sympathetic smile. “Hey, Mike. What are you drinking?” “Beer, any beer.” He sighed as he leaned against the counter.
Expertly popping off the metal lid, Leon slid a bottle his way. Mike dipped his head in a nod, and tried to tip.
“Nope. Keep it. I’m not taking anyone’s money tonight.”
Mike harrumphed and moved to the corner of the room. He heard the door again and watched a strawberry blonde walk in. She knocked knuckles with some dude who looked eerily like the harder, tatted up version of Toryn.
Mike couldn’t tear his eyes away from the woman as she walked to the bar. Petite, curvy, and wearing a smile full of confidence. His dick woke up for the first time since Isa ended their fucking-friends situation.
He could sense the woman’s essence calling to him from across the room. This party was packed with Others. He’d avoided mingling with their kind for so long, he couldn’t tell what most were. However, the new arrival felt a lot like Tremaine, which made her a mage. Same as Toryn’s look-alike, and several other people in the room.
Her magic sparked his, but he didn’t care. He needed a distraction and she was the one thing taking his mind off Isa.
With a drink in hand, she crossed the room, her honey-colored eyes locked on his. “Dance with me.” It wasn’t a question.
He nodded, took the last sip of his beer and set it down on the nearest table.
She gulped down her drink and placed her glass beside his bottle.
Her eyes lit with desire and there was a command in her voice. “Come here.”
“With pleasure.” He moved closer and her hands landed on his shoulders before he wound his arms around her waist. Soft skin over lean muscle he wanted to explore.
“I’m Gwen. You?”
One corner of his mouth lifted. “Mike. What brings you here?”
Her brow arched as she took a look around. Mischief danced in her eyes. “You’re not what you appear, are you?”
He frowned. “What do you mean?”
“You’re hiding something.”
Shaking his head slowly, he lied through his teeth. “I have no clue what you’re talking about. And you didn’t answer my question.”
She let out a tiny laugh. “A co-worker convinced me coming here tonight was a good idea. I didn’t think so, until I saw you.”
He relaxed slightly, but felt the sparks dance along his spine as she tiptoed up, her breasts pressing into his chest. Desire erupted, and all he could think about was sweeping her off her feet, and carrying her to the nearest bed.
She whispered against his ear, “Relax, Mike. I have all the time in the world to learn your secrets, and I have a feeling it will be worth the wait.”
“Don’t know about that. Not much interesting here.”
“I sense a beast lurking under the surface. That’s exactly what I’m looking for.”
Mike moved back, and Gwen looked up at him with a curious glint. “Too fast?”
“Beast?” His alarm bells pinged off the charts. She knew something about him. Sensitives had never been able to tell what he was in the past. Even when his magic bled through, everyone thought he was a simple human.
“Don’t tell me you aren’t going to be wild when I get you home and strip you down.”
Desire stared back at him. Maybe he was being paranoid. Or maybe she knew what tiger’s tail she was pulling. Maybe the feisty mage would be safe.
Swallowing back his apprehension, he taunted, “Depends. Are you wild?”
“With the right man, you bet. You may be him.”
“Perhaps.”
“Let’s get out of here. You can get to know me.”

Toryn’s only fear is losing Isa’s trust. Once the truth is revealed, can she forgive him for years of misdirection and omissions? Can she come to terms with a world she doesn’t want or know?

The Review: YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
With each book by Brandy L Rivers, I always say it was the best so far because she always comes up with something different – even in the same series – and this is no exception! Way to open up the world they live in! This was brilliant!
We met Isa & Toryn in book one – Night’s Embrace – and Isa made an impact for me because she was seeing a character from that book but was clearly feeling something more for Toryn… but Toryn was seeing someone and that led Isa to believe he was only into men. So here we are with their story as things come to a head between them because it’s quite clear that something has to give in their friend zone relationship and that is just the beginning….I have to say, I wondered how they were going to be together because of Toryn’s relationship with Leon but that worked out perfectly and is part of Toryn’s secrets. In the beginning they are both mooning after each other, both loving the other but neither bold enough to make the first move. It is so hot when they do eventually get together, this couple will literally burn those sheets with passion and it’s clear that they are meant for each other, they feel right together and the relationship feels more real because of the bonds of friendship they shared beforehand. I loved how they came together and I love Isa’s need for independence and her acceptance of the changes in her life, this woman takes everything in her stride and the only thing that can scare her is losing Toryn. Toryn was so admirable because even though he is her protector, he still understood her need to look after herself and even though it goes against his feelings, he let her act on that.
Toryn is hiding a few secrets from Isa, one being that he is her protector and another being that Isa has no idea who she really is and is about to find out. The storyline in this was epic, I LOVED everything about it and I really enjoyed finding out about Isa’s true heritage. There are a lot of surprises in store for her starting with what Toryn has been hiding but then that becomes small in comparison to what else she learns. For one, she has a family she never knew existed, two – she is super powerful, three –she is a very special person, four – people are hunting her and want to use her, five – her world is about to be turned upside down but six – Toryn loves & wants her making her able to handle anything else.
As I mentioned, the world of ‘The Others of Seattle’ is about to opened up in a major way and some new species are introduced that we haven’t seen before including satyrs & dragons!! (I’m excited about the dragons) Some of the book even had a fantasy feel to it and that’s something new also and there wasn’t a werewolf in sight.  The threat was very sinister & seedy with a very creepy enemy (who also links the book to ‘The Others of Edenton’) and this is where we get to Isa at her best and strongest as she faces down more than one enemy. There is tons of action, threats, power plays, huge secrets and lots of sexytime making this a must read for fans of paranormal romance. I would gladly read another book about this couple and couldn’t recommend it enough…… oh and did I mention it has Dragons??? I need their books too!

Thank you to Brandy L. Rivers for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

They say that dreams can come true, but as a Dreamwalker, Devlin had yet to experience anything but nightmares. Then again, the druid had been held by sadistic vampires and dark mages for twenty years, forced to do their bidding. Newly escaped, he stumbles upon a dreamrealm where he can’t resist a little werewolf.

Jamie just wants someone to call her own. She feels like she’s been waiting for an awfully long time, when a man who teases her memory begins to visit her while she’s dreaming. From the moment she feels his turmoil, she’s drawn in, wanting nothing more than to heal his broken soul.

Before Devlin can decide what to do, he has to make a trip to Edenton. His first goal is to make sure someone who can’t remember him is safe and happy. The little werewolf of his dreams happens to live there, and she’s even more irresistible in real life.

When you’ve been taught all your life to run, what will make you change? Can Jamie convince her mate to stay and fight? Will he risk everything to have what he needs? Or run to save them all?

The Review: Breaking Free might be the fourth book in the ‘Others of Edenton’ series but there is no let up in the story, the action and the sexytimes. If you’re onto the fourth book, you’re obviously aware of the world of Edenton and its residents and boy are we in for a few surprises this time around because some skeletons are tumbling out of those closets.
In this book, it’s Jamies’ turn to find her mate…… in her dreams! Devlin is a Dreamwalker, a rare kind of supernatural and sought after by those who practice the darker magics. He has been held captive by one of the worst, most sadistic kinds of supernatural for over twenty years where he has been forced to use his magic for evil…. Until he escapes. Soon after his escape he enters Jamies’ dreams, he doesn’t know why it’s hers that enters and neither does Jamie, they just both know that their connection is deep. Devlin has never felt this way about anyone and for some reason feels drawn to use his freedom to seek out Jamie in Edenton, to hold her at least once….. and of course, Jamie will be more than willing. Devlin knows that no matter what he feels for Jamie, he simply cannot stay because evil is on his tail, they want him back and will not stop in their endeavour so his only option is to do what he’s done for most of his life – run! but there is more in Edenton for Devlin than Jamie, someone who has no memory of him… but he knows her and he loves her too making it a really hard decision to take his troubles to their doorstep but the temptation to be near Jamie is too strong. Jamie will not stand for finding her true love only for him to up and leave and when she finds out his ties to Edenton, the whole town will be behind him as they all stand together to banish evil once more.
I thought that Falling into Place was the best book in the series and it was but this book is not far behind it, infact action wise and progression of storyline wise – this tops it! I have not once been disappointed in any of the books in this series, they are easy to read, flow well and hit about every spot in what I like about this genre. Jamie has been a constant character since book one so we already have a sense of who she is and what she is about, she went through a couple of bad times and a break up with another character – Preston – her sister and friends always fear her taste in men because she has not got a good track record of choosing the right one, she has a heart of gold and she is just as powerful as others but chooses to downplay it. Devlin is very untrusting, most of his life has been spent on the run and the last 20 yrs or so have been spent in captivity where his magic has been used for evil under coercion, he thinks himself evil, he has no confidence in what he can do, who he is or that he is worthy of love; quite a pitiful character really but we get to see him grow under the right guidance and the love of a good woman. They made a great couple, Jamie was the perfect remedy to Devlins’ feelings & doubts and I loved how they started off, they smouldered together from the get go and you want them both to have this piece of happiness.
The storyline was awesome and was filled with lots of secrets and revelations; skeletons in the closet causing an avalanche here! It’s a bit hard to discuss the storyline with so much hinging on the secrets that are revealed so I’ll try and tease a little of it out…. I mentioned that Dev is connected to someone else in Edenton which is secret #1 but then who & what comes after Dev brings more secrets and for more than one character. I liked this storyline most because of the intertwining of the ‘secret’ threads, it involves & will affect multiple characters and will have a major impact on Edenton as a whole. I loved how everyone came together against a common enemy, banding together, willing to give their lives for each other, willing to help break others free & make things right. I have always felt the community of these characters but this made me have a sense of family between each and every one of them and it felt good. Yes we get a lot of Jamie & Devlin building a relationship, we also move forward in a couple of other relationships, seeing happiness for our much loved characters but on the flip side we see a real evil and how that can be used, how a good person can be used for evil and what that evil has planned for the future if not stopped. The action was amazing, the climax of the book was superb where everything and everyone came together for a final battle with full on action & fighting, magic being flung around like no ones business – it was awesome! And just the icing on the cake for this fantastic book and I loved it! It did kind of feel like a conclusion to the series but seeing as how I know there’s more to come – I’m a happy bunny =)

Romantic couple in a hotel room

Excerpt from Breaking Free!

The moon shone bright over a crystal clear lake. Thousands of stars were reflected, like floating diamonds sparkling. The breeze blew gently through red cedar, pine, and maple. The clean mountain air reminded him of camping with his family when he was a boy. It had been so long since he had the liberty, and desire, to enjoy nature. The water called to Devlin. Carefully, without a sound, he pulled the clothes from his body and placed them on the stump beside him. With a slow breath, he walked into the gentle ripples, creating larger crests of his own. Warm water greeted him. He dove under, swimming deeper. A splash caught Devlin’s attention. He broke the surface to find nothing, and no one. Closing his eyes, he reached out with his senses. A lone werewolf was close. Panic flared through him, and he started for the shore, but a woman surfaced before him. A slow smile spread on her face when he flailed back, splashing her in his surprise. “Your heart’s pounding.” Amusement sparkled in her pale blue topaz eyes as she placed one small hand over his chest. Warmth washed through him offering a calm he couldn’t remember ever feeling. Yet, he was terrified the Dales were tracking him. A dream, nothing more than a dream. They can’t find me, he reminded himself. “You startled me,” Devlin replied. “Hmm.” Her foot brushed against his calf, sending a shiver through his entire body. She tapped her finger to her chin. “You remind me of someone, but I can’t figure out who.” Intrigued, and certainly heading toward aroused, he asked, “What makes you say that?” One corner of her shiny pink mouth lifted impishly. “Don’t know, but you do.” Her voice had taken on a husky purr which effectively made his blood pump faster. A dream, just a dream, he told himself. Then he did something bold, something he hadn’t done in so long he was sure he’d fail, even in a fantasy. “What’s a sweet little wolf like you doing out here all alone?” Her giggle was melodic as her already dazzling eyes lit up. “Looking for love in all the wrong places.” As if on cue, his resistance broke. Her tiny waist fit perfectly in his hands, her hips flared in a way that made him groan. Devlin propelled them closer to the shore, until his feet touched bottom. Before he could make his move, her legs locked around his hips and her fingers caressed up his shoulder and neck to delve into his hair. She grazed her lips over his. Afraid to take things too far, he slid his hands up her back, pressing her full breasts against his chest. Needing more of her taste, he deepened their kiss. Devlin felt more alive than he could remember. A dream, just a blasted dream, his brain chimed in. The knowledge didn’t stop him from sweeping his tongue into her mouth when she opened to him. Her body undulated in tune with his, and her heated core slid against his hardened length. The urge to bury himself in her was too much. Pulling back, he panted, “Your name? Need your name, Precious.” “Precious?” She licked her lips as she stared back at him with something like awe in her big blue eyes. He tipped his forehead to hers and breathed in her wild but seductive scent. “You’ve set me free of my old life. You’ve given me something to look forward to.” He didn’t know where the words came from, but he didn’t dare take them back. They felt right. “Jamie Abrams. You better come to me.” There was a command hidden in her sweet sassy voice, one he truly wanted to obey. “I’ll be waiting.” He nodded, rolling her name through his head like a fine wine over his tongue.

Haunted by memories of her past, Amethyst Lakes left her home to come to Edenton. She was ready to start a new life on her own after being stalked relentlessly.

Hayden Hunter is too busy being Sheriff to take interest in a woman.

That is until his officer drags Amethyst into his life. For the first time he wants to protect and claim.

There’s instant attraction between the two, but Amethyst isn’t ready for anyone since she found out her ex killed himself after she sent him away for good.

Preston has always protected Amethyst, and when he finds out something of legend and nightmares is coming for her, he’ll do everything he can to keep her safe.

Amethyst is either the catalyst to bring nightmares fully into this realm, or the one to end them. Can she find the power to stop the darkness, or will she wind up its prey?

Pretty little nymph, suspicious but sexy earth fae, cocky mage, and a nightmare of old.

The Review: 4.5 flowers!

Shadows of the Past is a great addition to the Others of Edenton series and this time around we have Amethyst Lakes, a nymph featured in the Shadows Fall novelette and Hayden Hunter – Edentons very own Fae Sheriff! The synopsis is very accurate in its description of the book but I would add that apart from the relationship drama there are other ‘shadows of the past’ for both of them to deal with and the main threat of the book.
I liked all of the characters that feature in these books so Amethyst & Hayden are no exception, they are a cool pair, Amethyst is very confident sexually so you would expect her to be a bit more dominant in that department but Hayden is more than man enough to deal with this nymph and give her what she needs. I liked that even though she is more than capable of looking after herself that she had a vulnerable side too….not that it lasted long. I thought Hayden did a great job of winning her around even though the chemistry between them was smokin’ so he didn’t need to push but I appreciated that he was willing to put his needs to one side in favour of her needs and it was great to see him in another light than the surly Sheriff we had been introduced to in the first book. I was actually surprised that Hayden turned out to be Amethyst’s love interest because Preston was my bet and actually I thought Dacia had made a connection with Hayden in book one.
The story featured a different threat than book one and I liked the introduction of the ‘Shadow Fae’, I liked the threat they posed to everyone, how they gained their strength and what they were trying to do, they gave the book a darker feeling and made you think that anyone could be turned into the enemy. I like how both Amethyst & Hayden’s families were connected to them also, we get all of the history in the prologue so don’t worry about missing anything. I liked how the story from Shadows Fall continues in this but I must say that you really must read Shadows Fall before reading this as you wouldn’t really know the ins & outs of what had happened to Amethyst and why everyone seems uber protective of her.
I never like love triangles or ‘other women’ but there is one in this series who takes it upon herself to claim every eligible man even though they wouldn’t touch her and as soon as I knew who Amethyst’s love interest was, I knew this woman would be a problem…. It’s quite amusing how she pops up to claim a man that has nothing to do with her, she’s the token bitch of the series and although she has ‘issues’ you can actually feel for her and when we get her book I think it will be emotional but for now, she amuses me. We also get to meet a few new characters in this and I liked them all, there are a few notable ones and we are introduced to book 3’s couple too which I am very much looking forward to but I’m looking forward to Preston’s book a lot more. I also wanted to know what gift Sapphire bestowed upon Hayden & his family… will we ever find out? Never the less this was an awesome read (I would expect no less) and as always, I’m left wanting more!

Amethyst Lakes is a nymph with a problem. She left her ex-boyfriend when he started to smother her. Nothing she says seems to keep him away.

Carl needs Amethyst more than he needs to breathe, but she just doesn’t get it. He’ll stop at nothing to make her stay.

An old friend and teenage crush will keep her safe until Amethyst can decide how to deal with Carl once and for all.

A pretty little nymph, crazy stalker ex, a cocky mage, and a whole lot of trouble.

The Review: This was an awesome short story as we join Amethyst at the beginning of a misguided plot to get her to submit to her ex-boyfriend & stalker Carl. The synopsis explains it clearly and we get to meet a couple of people we are already aware of and a couple of new people. This is the catalyst that will bring Amethyst to Edenton and hopefully into the arms of her own hottie. It’s nice to get a bit of background on a character whose book will be coming up in the series, it helps us to understand more about her and what she is & does and what happens when things go wrong because of what she is. It has also set up some possible relationships and enemies. I usually moan about shorts not being enough and not being able to connect to the characters but that is not a problem here, I definitely felt for our character and her predicament. I think I would view this as more of a teaser to the book than anything else but what a teaser it was and in the space of 30 pages we have an infatuated stalker, a threat that could have disastrous consequences, an ally in the form of a former crush, a mage with power on his mind, one scared nymph who is left with no other option than to use her powers to aid her exit and let’s not forget, there’s even room for a little sexy time , plus we get to see the authorities for the supernatural in action. It has definitely whet my appetite for more, I love this series and I will take anything it offers with glee. Can’t wait for the next book.

Jess knew her life would never move forward if she remained a part of Gregory’s pack. Some Alpha’s just don’t know how to take care of their wolves. She had managed Gregory’s bar for years but she knew he would never sell it to her.

After one giant mistake, he went from bad to worse. As a psychic, she knew it was a downward spiral.

Taking her future in her own hands, she contacts the Alpha in Edenton. He is happy to sell the empty bar no one has the time, nor desire to renovate, much less run.

Their attraction is unexpected and the last thing either want, but they find the only thing they need in each other.

There is just one problem. Slater’s second in command is plotting against him. Liam will use anything to take over as Alpha.

Plenty of werewolves, an old vampire flame, plus a paranoid second, and don’t forget the psychic with a whole lot of attitude.

The Review: 4.5 Flowers!

New Beginnings is another excellent read in the ‘Others of Edenton’ series, this time it’s a prequel and we get to know some of the characters we were introduced to in ‘In too Deep’ a little bit better – namely our wolf pack Alpha Slater & Fallons BFF and psychic friend Jess. We already know from ‘In too Deep’ that Slater & Jess are mated & devoted to each other and this is their story….

Jess is a character more than capable of holding the lead reins and you can totally see how Fallon & her are friends because she’s fierce, she’s independent, she’s feisty, she’s not afraid to voice her opinion and doesn’t take any crap from anyone regardless of the outcome. I like this in a character and although she is similar in a few ways to Fallon, there is a marked difference too. Slater is HOT, I like my wolves dominant & sexy without the bossy and Slater fits the bill perfectly, even giving us a peek at his vulnerable side so, in fact he is ideal for Jess – if they could get past their issues. I loved their chemistry, I loved the little spats they had, I loved the sexy times, I loved it all, especially the fact that even though they ‘mated’, it wasn’t going to come easy to the pair of them and I have a feeling they will always clash…. But in a good way.

The storyline was great, from the way Jess left her old home right up until the ending – I was hooked and I really enjoyed the focus being on the wolf pack, giving us an insight into the inner workings & hierarchy. I though the danger/ threat of the book was well done & was really fitting with the overall feel of the book especially as it was coming from within and not an outside source which also gave it a creepier feel. I really liked Jess’s ability and how her visions played into the plot, but was left thinking that they could also be giving us insight to more books?? Let’s hope so because again, I am left wanting more. What I most liked though, was the relationship between Slater & Jess, it was bumpy, they were stubborn but again, they were HOT and I’m really liking the authors thinking when she created this world & its inhabitants, I wouldn’t mind moving to Edenton and snagging myself some hotness.
