Bittersweet Seraphim 'Released from Hell' Blog Tour +Giveaway!

Hey everyone!

I'm proud to welcome Debra, (and Jack) to the blog today to celebrate the release of Jack's sequel. Apparently he's excited about it. And most of us will know how Jack gets when he's excited?  So to celebrate the release of Bittersweet Seraphim, we have a character interview from Jack himself. Debra and Omnific Publishing have also kindly given away 2 ecopies of Crushed Seraphim and 2 copies of Bittersweet Seraphim, so 2 lucky winners will have the complete set. Jack is pleased about this. It makes him happy to share himself with more women. He's such a slut.

So if you haven't already seen it; below you will find the final cover for the book plus the overview. I honestly cannot wait for it! I loved the first one, and I want more Jack, lots more Jack.

Suffering is worst when you’re doing it alone. But Emma’s taking Hell like an angel—even though her languishing began with having her seraph wings torn from her back. Now her worst enemy lords his body and his evil desires over her while she tries desperately to remember the words to her favourite prayer.

As Devil, Jack used to have Hell and its women humming like well-oiled machines. Too bad he’s nowhere near the place now. Stuck on Earth as a human, he must work with a ragtag team of exiled minions and half-breeds to save the angel who’s become all that matters.

Rescuing a seraph is the plan, but breaking into Hell means letting evil things out. Once they collide, minions and angels converge in the battle of the ages: good versus evil. But which side is which? Will Jack destroy the world as he fights to save Emma, his true and timeless love, from a damnation he designed?

An action-packed sequel to Crushed Seraphim, this tale reveals—time and again—what happens when the heart’s deepest desires break free. With a story both sizzling and sensual, emotional and enigmatic, Debra Anastasia invites readers to join a battle with nothing less than love on the line.

Debra kindly tried to get an interview out of Jack. Sadly, Jack wasn't being very helpful at all...here's how it panned out.

Satan Jack kicks in the side door to Panera. I try not to show alarm. I expected him to come through the main entrance. Stupid to think he would ever follow normal conventions.

I take a sip of my huge hot cocoa and watch as he paces. He’s wearing old jeans, a leather jacket and layers of necklaces. He’s also wearing a hat and a smirk.

Finally, he sits across from me after spinning the chair so he can straddle it. We sit in silence as we regard each other. His deep brown eyes reflect my own face. He’s so, so pissed at me. I know he wants to know how his story ends and I haven’t told him. It feels a bit cruel as I see the pain he’s enduring. I’m sure he doesn’t feel it now, but I do love him.

“And?” He drums his fingers on the table creating little waves in my cup.

“I’m supposed to interview you for Donna and Jessica at Book Passion for Life.” I’m proud that my voice doesn’t falter. I sit on my hands so they don’t shake.

He pats his pockets until he finds his cigarettes. After pulling free his hand-rolled drug, he lights it up using the tip of his finger. “I’d rather they did this themselves. I’m having trouble not killing your ass.”

“He says boldly to the woman with the pen.” I squint at the Devil.

His anger is so thinly controlled at my veiled threat as he snaps. “Don’t even. Not for a minute should you make the mistake of thinking you’re safe here. A crowd? I can manipulate all of them. They will die doing my will. Having them turn their heads while I snap your neck in nothing.”

Jake twirled his index finger in the air as he exhaled his smoke. Each and every person in the store looked out the window.

“Can we just do the questions? You know I’m not bending on giving out the ending.” I put my head in my hands. The smoke from his cigarette is making me feel woozy.

“How’s the story end Deb? Tell me how I fare. Where’s Emma?” He’s next to me now, arm slung around my shoulders.

I have to lean against him because I can’t hold my head up. My tongue feels saturated with secrets.

“Emma is brave. You do well. So sorry for the scene with the…” I barely manage to press my lips together in time.

His voice reverberates through my mind. His smoke has created a curtain around us --a sheer wave that I know separates me from my perceived safely.

“Sorry for what? Tell me now.”

I can feel every word he speaks in my nervous system. I’m about to tell him it all, so very close. It’s bursting from me as if I’m being squeezed. And then in the muck of my brain, I come up with the one truth that can save me.

“If you make me tell you the ending I’ll change it.”

He pushes away from me abruptly, watching me as if I’m a poisonous snake. My mouth feels freed with the truth. He knows I’m crazy and spiteful enough to do just that.

“I think I hate you.” He punches the wall.

I want to tell him to trust me, but he knows better. I never write what either of us think is going to happen. Together he and I have written some of the most surprising stunts, throwing all the well thought out outlines in the proverbial fire.

His smoke is fuming, swirling like a hurricane around me.

I dare to speak. “I write you from a place of love. That’s the only hint I’ll give.”

I take another sip of my drink even though I’m scared it might be the last choice I make.

He snaps and his smoke dissolves into his cigarette and the fury in the air dissipates as well.  “I know you do. It’s what’s kept you alive so far.”

Satan Jack gives me one more dirty look and leaves out the door he busted in.

I have none of the ladies’ questions answered and my interview subject just vaporized back to Hell.

I hope Jessica and Donna will understand.

Don't worry Debra, we understand. You did your best, Jack is just stubborn and wants his ending. He'll just have to wait. Thank you.

Guest Post: 'One Holy Hell' of a birthday to Crushed Seraphim

Hi bloggers!

This week is a very special week.  This week marks the 1st birthday of Debra Anastasia's debut novel Crushed Seraphim (You can see my review here).

So as a lovely favour to Debra I am allowing her to flash some angel wing here on the blog today! Below is a post which will then following a giveaway for an e-copy of Crushed Seraphim :) you can head to her website at the end of the post for more details on a GRAND PRIZE!

Crushed Seraphim is One Holy hell of a year old! It’s been one year since I stayed
up all night to watch my debut novel go live. When it finally popped up on Amazon,
I peed my pants a little. I never knew I wanted to be an author, but holding that
book was a huge tearjerker for me. I wrote this story as a way to tell the tale of a
woman that was a cursing, smart-mouthed nightmare who also happened to have
the courage to save the world. It was book one in the Seraphim Series and the
conclusion, Bittersweet Seraphim, will be dropping in Fall 2012.

There was definitely a stand out gentleman from this book. His name is Satan Jack
and in my head? He looks just like Johnny Depp. Jack even has his own Twitter
(@Satan_Jack ) where he flirts with readers! He’s staked a claim in quite a few
panties since his unveiling and he’s proud.

Here’s the summary:

How does a foul-mouthed angel end up as the last hope for all of Heaven and Earth?
When Seraph Emma is maimed and tossed from Heaven by a rogue angel who's taken charge, she fears
she'll never be allowed to return. Tasked with the impossible job of showing the self-loathing (and not even

human!) Jason his worth, Emma is sure she's doomed to fail.

Meanwhile, having wormed his way into Heaven, the corrupt Everett has trapped God in Hell and has
designs on unleashing evil everywhere. Fortunately, if there's one thing Emma can't do (in addition to
minding her language), it's give up. Determined to save Jason and get back to Heaven-even if it means
going to Hell-Emma's plan is simple yet impossible: trick the Devil to save God.

What she doesn't count on is the devotion and, well, humanity she finds in Jason; the spirit, hidden
compassion, and raw sex appeal within the Devil; and the vulnerability of her own heart. With the help
of two unlikely allies, she'll wage the battle for Heaven. But will Emma be sidetracked by a new sort of
heaven along the way?

What's truly more dangerous? Falling from Heaven, or falling in love?

Debra Anastasia has twisted a fast-paced tale of intimate relationships with literally universal impact. Rich
with humor and electrified by attraction, this novel offers a playfully off-beat take on the good and evil that
make up the world.

Here’s the trailer (featuring music by the insanely talented Ron Pope)

This One Holy Hell of a birthday party is being held from May 24th-26th and there are
many chances to win a prize.

On this blog, leave a comment (Rafflecopter form is at the end of this post). One of the commenters will win an eCopy of Crushed
Seraphim in the format of their choice.

On my blog, http://debraanastasia.blogspot.com/you can enter to win the grand
prize and get linked to an excerpt from Bittersweet Seraphim. Looking for a home
are two print, signed copies of my books! Poughkeepsie will come with a matching

angel themed crystal bracelet and an exclusive fifteen-minute gChat with Satan Jack!
That’s right, you can ask him anything.

My Book Boyfriend (#26): Take them home for Christmas special + Giveaway: Featuring the Poughkeepsie brothers

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme, hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader. What is My Book Boyfriend you might ask.  Well it is a weekly meme where we talk about a literary crush including stats, a picture of what you imagine he looks like and some quotes from him that make you swoon.  If you are interested in participating please check out the My Book Boyfriend Introduction Page over at Missie's blog The Unread Reader.

Alright ladies (and gentlemen if there are any). I have a Christmas special for you today.  I'm going to triple team you all today (I mean that in the most non sexual way ever). I have three special boys-men-for you. They are foster brothers,  Beckett Taylor, Cole Bridge, and Blake Hartt. And these three foster brothers all come from Debra Anastasia's new novel Poughkeepsie. So here they are...:

Beckett Taylor
Description: Tall, muscular and tattooed. He's s a mobster. Even though he's a little bit evil he has a kind heart towards children and his foster brothers. He goes all out to try and protect his brothers and the people they love. Including murder. His personality is magnetic, and if he even looks at you, you blush.
Quote: "Beckett wasn't ready to leave. Cole and Blake might never understand
how much he hungered for their monthly meetings. He loved feeling like
Poughkeepsie he had a family. He was so used to watching his back and striking first. The easy camaraderie they shared was a balm on his frazzled nerves. Their matching
tattoos were the only ones any of them had.

Beckett pulled himself up into the Hummer. He’d wait a little longer,
just in case. There were a lot of illegal, deadly things stored in Beckett’s car,
but the only thing he kept hidden was the cd he now pulled out from under
the driver’s seat. He slipped it in the player and turned on the power, letting
the classical music sweep over him like a cool breeze. It was the soundtrack
of his boys. The music that saved them. Blake’s music."

My model for Beckett today is Australian ex-rugby star turned model, Daniel Conn. I found that Beckett was a hard one to picture. When I think of mobsters in fiction I always seem to picture them Hispanic (no disrespect to any Hispanic followers). So I emailed Debra and told her, I was having trouble thinking of Beckett. She gave me a few suggestions, and most of them were pretty good. But they weren't dark enough for me to use as Beckett. So I went on a hunt and came across Daniel who is, lets face it, extremely sexy, and I decided that he would be my Beckett, because Beckett is extremely sexy and manly! So there you go, Daniel Conn is foster brother number one, Beckett Taylor.

A Review for Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

Posted by Jess
Published Date: November 22nd, 2011
Finished Date: December 2nd, 2011
Publishers: Omniphic Publishing
Source: For Review
Format: E-book
Pages: Unkown

The blurb from Goodreads: He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he’s homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She’s the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it’s not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.
Blake’s heart beats for Livia’s, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

The review: You know I'm not even sure what to write. What I do know, is that I love Debra, and I love her writing. I was so excited when Debra sent me a copy of Poughkeepsie so that I wouldn't miss out on the chance of reading it. I'm so glad she did, because I loved it. I loved every minute of this book. I was on a pretty emotional roller coaster during.

I loved the whole concept of this story. A seemingly normal girl, Livia, befriends a known homeless man who counts her smiles everyday. What starts as a friendship (and not a charity case), slowly leads into a love more powerful than anything in the book itself. I loved every interaction between Blake and Livia. Blake, although homeless, is handsome, charming, and smart in his own right. Livia is insanely kick-ass and you see this through out the entire novel. From the moment she helps save Blake from a group of teenagers, to the moment to tries to save Blake's life in the woods. She remains strong, she remains true to the love she has for Blake, and ultimately she brings Blake back to life where he can finally accept who he is, and that he can be a good person.

Every character in this book jumps out at you from the page. Beckett, Blake's foster brother is a mobster with a heart. Seriously it may be slightly evil in places but he cares more about Blake and his future than he cares about himself, and I loved that. I loved seeing Beckett be himself, but still be a older brother to BOTH of his brothers. Cole, who is training to be a priest, is wonderful. I don't have much to say about him in all honesty. You'll have to read it because he jumps off the page with all his wisdom and knowledge, and a little bit of riddles. I finished the book last night, and this morning I'm still thinking about Blake, Cole and Beckett, that's how intensely powerful these three boys. This is the kind of effect they have on you when reading. And that the fact they are all absolutely frickin' gorgeous has nothing to do with it...I don't think =/ maybe...

I don't think there is anything that I disliked about this book. Like some of the other bloggers, Debra and I get on really well, and if you've spoken to her or followed her blog posts like I do, then you'll know the type of personality she has. And her ENTIRE personality just shines through in this book. From being funny, to being kick ass, to being sexy (seriously sexy). Everything Debra is, is in this book and that's what makes it a great read. I couldn't get enough. I wanted to be there experiencing everything Livia, her sister Kyle, Blake, Cole, Beckett and Eve go through, I wanted to be there to comfort them, love them, and just be there.

Anyway, I am totally rambling on and this review probably makes no sense what so ever. But I'm telling you Debra Anastasia has become one of my favourite indie authors of 2011, and I'm know that whatever else she releases in the New Year, will be just as good, just as funny and just as sexy as Crushed Seraphim and Poughkeepsie.

I highly suggest you pick this book up. I will only recommend this to older YA from 17+ due to scenes of intense violence and some pretty steamy sex scenes from all three brothers. But definitely, definitely read this!! Go, little readers, Go!

Author Interview with Debra Anastasia & Giveaway!

As some of you know I recently read and review Crushed Seraphim by Debra Anastasia (See review), which I recommend you all give a go. My new BFF Debra was kind enough to answer some questions for us. :)

How does a foul-mouthed angel end up as the last hope for all of Heaven and Earth?

When Seraph Emma is maimed and tossed from Heaven by a rogue angel who’s taken charge, she fears she’ll never be allowed to return. Tasked with the impossible job of showing the self-loathing (and not even human!) Jason his worth, Emma is sure she’s doomed to fail.

With the help of two unlikely allies, she’ll wage the battle for Heaven. But will Emma be sidetracked by a new sort of heaven along the way?

What’s truly more dangerous? Falling from Heaven, or falling in love?

So that's a little about the book. Now here are the questions that Debra kindly answered. Just a note about this particular picture...this is the picture Debra uses for everything, I'll let you all decide if you think that's her teasing her hubby or not...tis a mystery...

Hi Debra!

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview, I realise Jack is impatient and will want you back soon.

     1.  What inspired you to write Crushed Seraphim?

First, thank you for being such a fun reader. I have had a ball getting to know you! I went into writing Crushed Seraphim thinking it would be a fun, snarky Christmas fiction. Boy, was I surprised when God turned up! It really did evolve into a much more dramatic story than I intended. I wanted an angel that had lots of flaws, but her core --where she made her decisions from-- had to be courageous and pure.

2. Did you have a plan set out for where you wanted your characters to go? Or was it just a ‘wing it and see’ situation?

I see what you did there with the wing. You’re so damn cute. I did think it was going to be one way and once I got into it, the plot and characters did their own thing. So I guess I did wing it. ;)

3. What made you decide that Jack, the Devil was actually a good guy…of sorts?

Again, the characters surprise me more than half the time. I did not expect to find a love interest for Emma in the bowels of the earth. I saw a picture of Johnny Depp that inspired the whole scene for when Emma arrives in Hell. You actually included it in your book boyfriend meme. He’s surrounded by empty bottles and looks so tired and lost. Immediately, Jack took his first breath for me. He would be sexy and bad but have something in him that we wanted to heal. (And now he wants me to tell you that that thing is in his pants!)

4. How long was the writing process for Crushed Seraphim?

Writing it took about eight months. The editing and publishing part took about a year from the green light to holding a copy. My publishers are fantastic, my editors are very talented.

5. Out of all the characters in your book, who was the most fun to write?

I love writing my dirty boys, those characters always make me laugh. But I think I love kick ass girls the best. Women are such fierce people; there’s so much to draw from. Women in our everyday lives are such quiet heroes. The laundry, the kids, making sure all the random jobs get done at work. I have a deep respect for my gender.

6. Are you a religious person and do you believe in angels, God and the Devil?

I’m not traditionally religious. I don’t picture God, the devil, or angels like I do in my book. I think good energy is where we come from. What you put into this world matters, positive energy, prayers, trying your best to make good choices that are full of compassion. And angels for me are the continuation of love. I mean, when you lose someone you love, you can still feel them, knowing that they are still in the universe, so that’s Heaven.

7. Crushed Seraphim isn’t full of thousands of characters, but out of all of them that you did include, were there any minor characters that ended up having a much bigger role to play than you originally planned?

Jack was supposed to be a scary monster that Emma had to escape from, and he really changed my whole freaking plot. He was worth it though.

8. You’re currently in the process of writing a sequel to Crushed Seraphim. Can you tell us a little about it?

I’m on chapter fifteen of Crushed Seraphim’s sequel. I can tell you that when I’m not writing it with my fingers, I’m writing it in my head. There are scenes that will be so much fun to finally see on the paper. We’ll meet two new characters that are just some of my favorites ever. The back and forth between Jack and Jason is a pisser to write. They are really hating each other right now. I hope to be done with the first draft by December.

9. Are you going to make Crushed Seraphim a series or just two books?

Right now the outline is for two books. There’s quite a world to be explored so I wouldn’t rule out more from the Seraphim. But at the end book two the reader will have a resolution for all the characters they met in the first book.

10. If they turned Crushed Seraphim into a movie, who would be your ideal cast?

Wow! I’ve never actually thought of that. Well, we know I’d pick Mr. Depp for Jack. Jason could be Steve Burton from General Hospital. Emma… I picture a blonde Michelle Monaghan. Everett has to be evil. I bet Ryan Gossling could play that role.

11. If you could add a soundtrack to Crushed Seraphim which three songs would you pick?

I have to have music on while I write, so I love this question so much!

Song #1 is soooo Jack, “Heaven” by OAR. The lyrics on that one made me stop the van one day and jot them down so I could find the song when I got home.

“I don’t wanna go to Heaven if they don’t want me.”

Song# 2 is my Jason. “Stay or Leave” by The Dave Matthews Band, though my favorite version is a Tim Reynolds and Dave acoustic!

“Remember we used to danceAnd everyone wanted to beYou and meI want to be tooWhat day is this? Besides the day you left me?”

And Song #3 for Emma is a tie! Between: “Lying in the hands of God” by Dave Matthews and “Won’t Back Down” by Eminem.

The Eminem song makes me feel so angry, it’s great for action scenes. I feel like I could head butt a dinosaur to death when I hear that one. Can’t quote any of his filthy lyrics.

And Lying in the Hands of God may be the most perfect song ever written. It just is like, whoa.

“Save your sermons for someone that's afraid to love. If you knew what I feel then you couldn't be so sure. I'll be right here lying in the hands of God. If you feel angels in your hand, Tear drops of joy runs down your face, you will rise.”

I could go on for hours about music.

12. Are you currently working on any future works?

Well, Jack really wants me to only write his story, but I do have other things going as well. I recently contributed to an anthology where all the proceeds go to Save the Tata’s. My short story appears in the Heat Wave edition because it has sexy times in it. Aeliea is an evil princess that takes a strong warrior captive. He then shows her the meaning behind trying to be a kind person. There’s also a YA anthology that has sweet love stories. Great stories for a great cause. Everyone involved donated his or her services. My publisher, Omnific Publishing, rocks.

This November 22nd my novel, Poughkeepsie, is being released as well.

A simple smile, set on repeat, coming from a pretty train commuter has a deep effect on the homeless man sitting in the shade. When she dares to step between Blake and a bunch of bullies at the train station, her bravery and his kindness flames a love that neither can deny.

I’ve been working on this one a very long time and I’m so damn excited for its release.

3 Random questions:

1. If you were invisible for a day, where would you go and who would you see?

Apparently I’m super boring. I would totally go to my kids’ school and watch them interact with their friends and teachers. I’m crazy about those two things I pushed out of my body. I love seeing their faces change when a thought crosses their minds. And if anybody messed with them? Then I would be able to trip the jerks and be totally immature without anyone knowing it was me. If the kids had off from school that day then I’d find a movie set and sneak around there. I bet that would be fun.

2. What do you want readers to know about you?

That I’m crazy. My twitter is about the weirdest feed in the world. I love potty humor. I can’t be an adult when someone farts. I hate spiders. I pray for road kill. If I don’t laugh hard at some point my day has been wasted. I hate my bra and tear it off the minute I get home. Then I throw it like it’s on fire and can’t find it when I need it. I have only two bras I like. I named them the president and the vice president, because they can never fly together in the laundry. And if I’m not having a good time, it’s my own damn fault.

3. If they made a movie about your life, who would you like to be cast as you?

That would be a tie. I think it’d have to be Angelina Jolie for when I’ve been angry in the past. I kind of go all primeval-ish. And for the rest of the movie I think Chris Farley (RIP) with a long blonde wig would really capture my delicate, feminine ways. When I load the dishwasher, all the plates are afraid to the point of shaking that they won’t make it out alive.

Jess! You are so much fun, I’m thrilled we are new BFF’s. You made being featured on your blog such a party!
