In Deity: Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate.

And now in Elixir: Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex. Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for.  Even if it means making war against the gods.

The Review: "Alex, you have to be in there. I know you. Mt heart would not be beating if you were truly gone."

You all know how much I adore this series and after reading Elixir I know it's definitely my favourite series ever. The Covenant series just gets better and better with each book and Elixir really is just as phenomenal as the rest - maybe even better because it's a novella told from Aiden's point of view.

Elixir takes place right where Deity ends and for those of you, who haven't read Deity, please, please do not read this book. It will spoil everything for you and also you will be missing keys parts of the story. This story shows you the lengths Aiden will go to to save Alex from Seth and being the Apollyon. He does the one thing he knows Alex hates because he knows how scared she is of it but really, he has no choice.

This story is absolutely heart-breaking and if anything pure torture. It's such a torturous read because we really see what Aiden really thinks and feels and it's painful. I cried for him - it's heart-breaking. He's struggling with the losing Alex, he's struggling to bring her back and he's struggling to keep her safe. He will do whatever it takes to get her back to him - but to do that, he needs to have hope and thankfully, he does. He's more hopeful than anyone. He knows that it will work out because he can't bare the thought of losing her and honestlyElixir showed me everything about Aiden - his strength and his love for Alex that it makes me love him that much. There's so many shocking twists in this story that just left amazed by Jennifer's talent to keep knocking out amazing plots.

By the end of this book, my heart broke again,  if that's even possible but, as a reader I have hope and I'm so, so excited to see what happens next.

Many thanks to Spencer Hill Press for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

The supernatural world in which Alexa Montgomery has found herself is on the brink of war.

She is charged with the task of raising an army, defeating an evil dictator, and struggling to contain the bloodthirsty monster that lives within her.

These are things Alexa can handle, but when the person she loves most in the world takes a turn for the worst, Alexa's loyalty and determination will be tested in the most horrifying of ways.

Will she be able to rise to the challenge, or will her love for her sister kill her once and for all?

The Review: **Spoilers from books 1&2**

The Rise is an excellent addition to the Alexa Montgomery Saga as their supernatural world heads to the brink of war…

At the end of book 2 we found Alexa & Kayden had succeeded in their mission to free her mother from her prison who then informed her that it isn’t actually Alexa that will bring peace to their world, it is Nelly!! And Alexa has left her unprotected……….and in the hands of the King!

So as we start book three, they are in a race against time to get to Nelly and get her away from Two Rivers before people find out her true nature. Alexa can feel the urgency, she knows something is amiss and it is because the King has Nelly and she’s about to reveal herself in the worst possible way, setting off a chain of events that will bring our friends even closer to war!

What else can I say except I loved it, I have so much love for this series and I’m really invested in the characters and their world. I think this book really set things in motion for what is to come for Alexa, Nelly, Kayden and their followers, it’s like the pieces have shifted and are set in place ready for battle. Alexa is still struggling with her own issues, namely her monster but that takes a bit of a backseat when what she faces in this is heart-breaking on all fronts. Tbh, I have no idea how she is not in a mental facility with everything she is going through…. But that makes for a better character, I know it endears her to me – seeing her struggle and fight for everything, even her own will – well, it puts her above many of my own favourite characters who are all strong, fierce, kick ass women in their own right. Her world is ripped apart and everything is changing, the only constant really is Kayden, her Libra and I love that she has him, I love that when her world is going to hell that he is there and can calm her and give her solace in a way no one else can. Now this book is where Nelly finally lets loose – big style – and with that there is no going back, the cards are on the table and the sides are drawn but the bad guys aren’t the only ones who will suffer for the revealing of this power and it’s definitely going to hasten the Kings plans, which we learn more of in this.

The storyline is just as engrossing and the supernatural world that they live in is expanded upon so we meet more people, more species & more places – one in particular is really interesting – we get re-acquainted with people we have met before and find out some surprising things that make you wonder just how much of Alexa’s life is her own. I appreciated the added POV of the King, I like to get inside a ‘baddies’ mind just as much as I like ‘love interests’ POVs and we get a good insight into what he’s planning which adds the anticipation factor to an already fraught situation. I don’t want to go into much of the plot because this book is rather heavy on reveals and things happen directly because of those reveals so to let anything slip would most definitely spoil a lot of what’s going on. Just know that this is a game changer, expect the unexpected for nothing is written in stone, just as you think you know where it’s going to go and can predict what’s going to happen next - it doesn’t -and believe me when I tell you that you are in for some shocking events that you never see coming but will totally make you wish you had the next book laying right beside you so you can drink in more of this awesome story.

A Review for Dead Embers (Valkyrie #2) by T.G. Ayer

Valkyrie-in-training Bryn Halbrook just can't catch a break. With her boyfriend stuck in Hel and the taunting laughter of Loki still ringing in her ears, she struggles to concentrate on her training and duties in Odin's realm. The last thing she expects or wants is more adventure—but then treachery, a shocking abduction and a chilling discovery send her forth on another perilous, globe-hopping mission.

As the ultimate battle, Ragnarok, draws closer, it's a race against time for Bryn, Fenrir and their team to discover who kidnapped her foster brother from the halls of Asgard and what's causing the mysterious deaths of so many of Odin's chosen warriors.

In the exciting sequel to DEAD RADIANCE, Bryn encounters dwarfs and dragons, new friends and old foes—but worst enemy of all may be the person she trusts most!

The Review: The synopsis hits the nail on the head because this certainly is an exciting sequel!

We join Bryn in Asgard more or less straight after she allows Freya to take Aiden to Hel, in the effort to save his life following the poisonous stab wound he received from Loki. She’s down, she’s holding onto a lot of guilt but is determined again to do the right thing by Aiden and that means continuing with her training and trying to find a cure for him. Just as her training starts up again, things also take a turn for the worst with the escape of Loki and her foster brother’s disappearance which heralds even more misery for our friends as the einherjar become unobtainable, severely thinning out Odin’s supply of warriors. To make matters worse there is another who is afflicted by the same poison that holds Aiden in his state and unfortunately they hold Bryn responsible for the situation, leading them to give the ultimatum – find the cure…… or die! Things really can’t get any worse for Bryn right now right?....... wrong! Things can get way worse…………… and they do, leaving Bryn just as confused & feeling alone as ever, even when surrounded by people she would die for.

So, I really enjoyed Dead Embers – it took a little while to kick off but when it did you were hit with non-stop action. Bryn is a more than capable character that you can really get behind and route for, sometimes it confuses me just as much as Bryn that everyone seems to assume she knows everything about their world and the past because of her heritage but really she’s just learning about everything along with the reader. I really can empathise with her as she tries to shake off her ‘little girl lost’ persona to try and be the warrior Valkyrie that everyone wants her to be, she’s still struggling, still winging it and learning as she goes. We see that her need to belong and be a part of the ‘family’ dynamic at Asgard could also be her downfall but something seems to be clicking in her though, so hopefully there will be some breakthrough that will set her above everyone else. I’m not going to lie – Aiden was a big miss in this – I think Bryn was a bit more solemn because of it and I missed the romance, I did appreciate the bits we did get, especially the first visit with him because the depth of the feelings came across so well and I clung onto that.

The storyline was great, in this book it took on more of a fantasy feel than the first because the world has started to expand with her adventures/quests. In the first we met dragons and we meet them again in this but we also meet Dwarves and enter their realm which is quite an eye opener in the end. We also meet more of the gods – namely Thor & Tyra – we get a glimpse at just how organised Loki has actually been in his plans to bring about Ragnarok and to what lengths his followers will actually go to help. I like that it blends that world with our world so that the threats are felt from every direction and that the ‘bad guys’ aren’t predictable and most definitely think ‘outside of the box’ because It is filled with a good few twists and turns that no one sees coming and things that were forgotten about or thought concluded, actually aren't and bring with them some harsh surprises and realities. The ending is again most heinous but leaves me really excited for book three because a lot of threads have been opened up in this and I’m excited to see where they’re headed.

I’m still loving all of the Norse mythology and enjoying learning about it, I know how factual book one was, which really impressed me and I’m still impressed by this and have yet to find a book  featuring it of the same calibre so I am definitely carrying on with this awesome series…..bring on book three! 4.5 stars!

CONSEQUENCE HAUNTS EVERY CHOICE
Violet Eden is Grigori - part angel, part human. Her destiny is to protect humans from the vengence of exiled angels.
Knowing who to trust is key but, when Grigori reinforcements arrive, it becomes clear everyone is hiding something. Even Lincoln. The only thing Violet does know: Phoenix's hold over her is more dangerous than ever.
The race to find the one thing that could tilt the balance of power brings them all to the sacred mountains of Jordan, where Violet's power will be pushed to the extreme. And the ultimate betrayal exposed.
Enticed (now retitled ENTICE) is the second compelling book in The Violet Eden Chapters.

The Review: I loved this! It’s been a good while since I read book one but it had made an impression because I still remembered a lot of what had happened, saying that, I wasn’t sure whether I could get straight back into it after so long… I shouldn’t have worried because it was so easy to get back into and even if I hadn’t remembered what I did, it wasn’t so hard to pick up on what was going on.

In Entice, Violet is put through more turmoil, be it emotional, physical or mental – you name it and she is put through it – She’s left dealing with the aftermath of her relationship with Phoenix, yearning for a relationship with Lincoln that can never be, trying to train and get a grip on her powers, hunting exiles, all while living her normal life and going to school. We also get some new arrivals in this, particularly a couple who are partners of the ‘Grigori’ kind and also life partners that introduces the ‘soul mate’ theory that is super rare but gives Violet hope for her relationship with Linc, that’s if she can keep track of Lincoln who seems to prefer Magda’s company to hers these days, as the Phoenix betrayal and their deepening feelings become too much for them both. I love the relationship between Violet & Lincoln - the way they are fighting their feelings, that it’s getting harder to be around each other leaves me desperate for something to happen but I do have a soft spot for Phoenix and I’m maybe hoping he can gain redemption through Violet in some way too. Phoenix is back and the storyline is amped up and full of action as Violet’s once lover takes on the villainous role and gets the ‘exiles’ in order for a plot of biblical proportions, involving scrolls and prophecies and subterfuge. When he isn’t scheming somewhere he’s letting his presence known to Violet, after saving her life left a connection between the two he starts showing her just what he is capable of and she is left defenceless.

I loved where the storyline went, the plot was one I never would have guessed and it kept me on my toes all the way through the book. I loved the way the biblical stories, references and icons are used, it’s weaved into the story perfectly … I love the ‘Grigori’ history and the hierarchy that occasionally throws out a shock or two, especially where Violet is concerned and I like that we are still getting to know Violet – who she is, what she’s capable of, what’s expected of her and what is in store for her- we learn a good couple of things in this that leave you wondering what’s next for her, I’m expecting big things! As this book opens up the bigger world to us and we meet more of both sides, learn more about what each side is after, we also see that not everyone is who they seem and the lines of good and evil can be crossed by those we least expect it from and whilst that’s not so great for Violet, it makes for an awesome read filled with twists, turns & treachery galore and a good few discoveries that leave me really excited for book three – Emblaze.

Blog Tour for Immortal Surrender by Claire Ashgrove

Farran de Clare, loyal member of the cursed Knights Templar, wants nothing to do with predestined mates. Even the Almighty won’t turn him into a fool again—he’d rather sacrifice his soul. Yet in the scientist Noelle Keane, a devout atheist, Farran meets the seraph designed for him.

Ordered by the archangel Gabriel to protect Noelle, the possessor of a sacred relic that could give Azazel incredible power, Farran swears to do his duty—but in name only. Fighting an attraction that grows with each day, he’s determined that he’ll never pledge himself to her.

As they war over her future, their mutual passion ignites a conflict far more damning. But before Noelle will agree to eternity with him, she demands the ultimate sacrifice – his heart.

The Review: I have been looking forward to this book for a while, I had loved Immortal Hope and had mentioned that book 2 was already set up – but, it turned out that the seraph wasn’t who I thought it would be. In Immortal Surrender it is Farran de Clare’s shot at redemption and you could not find a more unwilling participant leading to me nicknaming him ‘frustrating Farran’- We meet Dr Noelle Keane as she is ready to hand over findings of a precious religious relic to Gabriel and then transport it back to where it came from. Gabriel bestows upon her a gift – the arm torc – and she puts it on not knowing that it has claimed her as a seraph that will bring light and redemption to her Knight. Farran is sent in to protect Noelle on her journey and following an attack discovers she is the second seraph, and she bears his mark – meaning she is meant for him. He is horrified but decides to ‘man up’ and take the oath in name only so that he can fulfil his duty as a Templar, Noelle however, thinks he’s crazy and playing some role playing game or is some sort of kidnapper – she absolutely refuses to believe in anything that can’t be explained by science - including his delusions but she’ll play along to gain her freedom. . . that is until she gets there and finds out that whilst he wants her to pledge an oath to him, he flatly refuses to pledge his loyalty to her – so why should she bother ? And with that, the fun begins. . . .

This is another awesome book, I’m a sucker for ‘fated’ loves and this is a main theme to this series so I’m won over already plus when you add a bit of supernatural and a tortured hero with a chance of redemption, well who wouldn’t love that? If you ask me what type of book I will flatly refuse to read, it would be historical fiction – I just hate it, it bores me but Claire Ashgrove has hit the nail on the head with her blend of historical figures, facts & religious beliefs and then to bring it into modern times and adding that dash of supernatural is a perfect combination for me and I love the way it’s done, not too much history and not too much modern world – just a nice equilibrium between the two that leaves you feeling as if the division doesn’t exist. Obviously we feel it more with the characters which can add for fun and misunderstandings – Farran especially is stuck in his dated thought processes and it comes across in his speech, his manner, his sense of duty and the way he views women which has poor Noelle’s emotions all over the place none more so than when he declares ‘he would rather sleep with whores than her’ – you know Katy Perry’s song, Hot N Cold? – it could have been written for Farren, he frustrated me immensely and made me anxious with his need to go and see Leah! Whereas Noelle had nothing but my sympathy, saying that - she was a tad naïve and forgiving (but we wouldn’t get anywhere with this story had she thought like me) she endured Farran’s insults and horrid behaviour that would have sent anyone else running but she stuck with him and even through all of that there were some really hot moments between them, giving us a glimpse at what Farren could really be like that has you clinging on to hope for Noelle. I like the clash between them and ultimately she gives as good as she gets but because Farran still holds onto his beliefs on certain issues and Noelle is a modern woman, they are always going to disagree which can be funny.

I liked the storyline set up, using a religious artefact that tied in with the order and brings Noelle into the picture and shows her struggle with her beliefs. In the very beginning of the book we discover the increasing danger coming from Azazal because now he knows of the seraphs existence, we see what he plans to do about it so now we find that the seraph’s are in as much danger as the knights -plus Farran was near to succumbing to the darkness so you get the sense of urgency. We’re also getting a little more information about the seraph’s, and seeing the prophecy come into play and we get to see Anne’s gift at work again.

The pacing was great, I could read it in one sitting and at no time throughout would I be bored. I like that this is based on true facts and people, when I reviewed book one the author did an interview and I was really intrigued by it all, she knows her stuff, she’s studied it and is very knowledgeable and it shows in the books from the architecture to the language used by each Knight – I don’t think people actually get the hard work some author’s put into their books so I always like to point that out when I feel it could be overlooked. I still say these books are perfect for fans of Dark Hunters & BDB because I know that the same type of storyline applies but where they deal in fiction, this is based on fact but ultimately all are tortured heroes brought to salvation by their woman and that stirs something primal in me and calls out to the romantic in me. Personally I cannot wait for the next book and I’m already wondering which knight will meet their seraph and be granted the chance for redemption, hoping for Declan or Caradoc this time!

Claire AshgroveGuest Post with Claire Ashgrove & Mikhail

Good morning!  Thank you so much for hosting me today.  I’m so excited to be here!

I brought with me someone I think you all know, or you’ve at least heard of.  The archangel Mikhail has agreed to sit for a couple quick questions, though he warned me he could get called away at any time.

Claire:  Mikhail, thanks so much for agreeing to this.  Let’s cover some simple bases, real quick.  You are the leader of the North American Knights Templar, what does this consist of?

Mikhail:  My duty is to insure the North American Knights Templar are effectively combating Azazel’s creations, as they affect mankind.  I receive word from High, I am alerted to weakenings between the realms.  Overall strategy is my responsibility, though at times I rely heavily on my commander, Merrick du Loire.

Claire:  So in common terminology, you’d be like the 4-Star General, with Merrick as the 1-Star, and then it carries down the line?

Mikhail:  I would award Merrick more than 1 star, but aye, you are correct.

Claire:  The seraphs…are you pleased with the two who’ve appeared?

Mikhail:  Exceedingly!  Both bring strong minds to our ranks, with spirits that are unfettered by centuries of death and isolation.  Both challenge their mates and have greatly improved the spirits and wherewithal of both knights.  I confess, I admire Anne’s backbone a great deal.  When she kicked Merrick, I knew he had met his match.  Noelle is a softer, kinder counterpart to Farran who has been hardened overmuch by centuries of existence.

Claire:  Do you know ahead of time who the seraphs are, or who they are paired with?

Mikhail shakes his head.  Much to my immense consternation, those messages are delivered solely to Gabriel.  I am lucky to receive forewarning twenty-four hours in advance.  Though it strikes me now, as I say that, we have been given advance notice of the next woman.  Men prepare to leave as I speak.

Claire: Oooh!  Hints?

Mikhail attention drifts clearly elsewhere, before again he shakes his head.  I am given leave only to say “She who digs in dust”

Claire: Figures.  That was Gabriel wasn’t it?

Mikhail merely smiles.

Claire:  What is the hardest part of what you do?

Mikhail:  I am forced to send weak men to fight.  Each night, I know I am apt to lose one, if not more.  At the same time, I must face these men daily and reside with them.  Though an archangel does not suffer the human emotions as you know them, upon occasion it aggrieves me to know I send men out to die.

Claire:  I can imagine.  Would you be able—

Hm.  Well.  He did give warning he might be called away.  Might have helped if he’d forewarned me he would disappear.

Well there you have it, all. Straight from the leader’s mouth.  Next time I’ll try to chain him down or something.

A Review for The Color of Grace by Linda Kage

Meet sixteen-year-old Grace Indigo:

Hey. When my mother remarried after thirteen years of being a widow, I had to move to a new town and enroll in a new school. Suddenly thrust into an entirely different kind of life, I just wanted to go home. I didn’t want to meet new people, didn’t want to leave my old friends, didn’t want to become a third wheel to my mom and her husband...and I really didn’t want to see Ryder Yates again. Ugh, I still don’t know why I turned down that too-good-to-be-true boy who flirted with me when we were attending separate schools.

But honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was worse.

Who knew becoming lost in a new life could help a girl find her true colors?

The Review: "I'm never one, distinct color but a dichotomy of dark and bright. The hues follow me, reflecting my mood, displaying every tone and shade I feel. I can breathe in red and exhale blue, or swim in green and dry as a rainbow. It all depends on how I choose to react to every shadow and light beam headed my way."

I hadn't heard of this book until the author asked me to review it and I really did jumped at the chance to read it because I never have enough contemporary romances books for review. The Color of Grace is a sweet, heart-warming and emotional read, one that had the perfect mix of love and hope and really made it a very enjoyable to read about.

I really liked The Color of Grace, it's a story about a girl, attending a new school where she becomes slightly popular - which is different from her last school, because she was classed as a nerd there. She's also experiencing dating for the first time in her life - which is a little scary for her and not only that she's having family issues with her mother and new step-dad. So yeah, there's a lot going on in the book but everything works and clicks together perfectly.

Grace is a sweet young girl who has a great personality. It was easy to connect with her so when she cried, I cried, when she laughed, I laughed and it was an interesting feeling to go through the motions with her. She comes across quite shy but she's more than happy to stand up to Ryder when she thinks he's in the wrong. I really liked Ryder - definitely book boyfriend material. He stands out from everyone else, he's not like his jerky friends and really does have a good heart. I really love the relationship between him and Grace, even though it has its up's and down, it was really sweet to read it all coming together. Some of the secondary characters were great too, like Grace's friends but there are some horrible ones. My main problem was with Grace's mum, she was mean and just never believed anything Grace said. It was pretty clear to see she was being manipulated though so I guess that explains her behaviour.

Overall, The Color of Grace was my first book by author Linda Kage and it will not be my last. I'm hoping this author writes more YA Contemporary because I will definitely read it.

Thank you to Linda Kage for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

The sexiest romance you’ll read this year…

One moment can change your life forever…

For Violet Lee, a chance encounter on a darkened street draws her into a world beyond her wildest imaginings, a timeless place of vast elegance and immeasurable wealth – of beautiful mansions and lavish parties – where a decadent group of friends live for pleasure alone. A place from which there is no escape… no matter how hard Violet tries.

Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.

Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price…

The Review: He sighed, his hands tangling themselves in my already-knotted hair. “Violet, don’t ever leave me. Whatever happens; however things get, just don’t go. Please.”

4.5 stars!

The Dark Heroine is an absolutely fantastic debut novel by author Abigail Gibbs. I had no idea that this author was only 15-years-old when she wrote this novel, and wow, does she have a talent because this one exciting page turner.

Violet Lee is a seventeen-year-old who is trying to get over her failed relationship with her ex-boyfriend. While out clubbing one night, Violet witness’s a horrific murder but it’s no ordinary murder, the people killed were murdered by – vampires. Violet’s world is turned upside from this discovery because a vampire called Kaspar, takes Violet as his prisoner and brings her home to his family. While there Violet finds herself trying to fight her attraction to Kaspar Varn – even though she despises everything he is. Not only that, but she starts suffering from weird dreams – one’s she knows are real. But how can dreams be real? Soon she finds out her life is being played out by fate and Kaspar is just as much as a part of it as her.

I loved this book, absolutely loved it and author Abigail Gibbs really managed to suck me all the way through. At night time, I had to force myself to go to bed because otherwise I would have stayed up all night reading and that is not good – especially when I have to work the next day.

I fell in love with everything about this novel, the characters, the setting, the romance, the danger – everything. The Dark Heroine really does have a little bit of everything for everyone. It’s is full of suspense and exciting twists and turns, it’s full of intense and engaging scenes and the story really does manage to capture your heart and make you fall in love with it.

Violet really is a great protagonist. She’s fun and feisty and even when she’s in trouble or even when she's sad, she tries to stand up for herself. She even puts herself in Kasper’s firing line by pulling a few pranks on him, now this may not seem bad, but if you’ve read this book then you will know that Kasper is not one to mess around with. He’s scary! I loved how she was willing to stand up to him because it made the story so much fun. Even though Kasper is scary and of course bad, there is a good side to him and that good side is really, really good. I loved sweet, loving, caring Kasper. I loved how he was with Violet even though there were so many problems in their way. I’m dying to see what comes next for them because they have some tough times ahead.

I really struggled between rating this book a 4.5 rating and a 5, but I finally settled on 4.5 because even though I loved it, I still felt there was more room at the end of the story, that the author could have took. I guess I just wanted more of Violet and Kasper’s story because where it ended was a very important scene - I felt like there should of been a little bit more. Now I’m not sure how much more details we’ll get about Violet and Kasper because the next book; Autumn Rose is about another character but I’m praying we will see something from Violet and Kasper.

Overall, The Dark Heroine is a dark and dangerous tale – one that is highly enjoyable and loveable and I will be keeping an eye out for more work by this author.

Many thanks to Harper Voyager who gave me the opportunity to review this book.
