The Blurb from Goodreads: Kidnapped by a vampire, epically farted on by a pug and dragged through the pits of Hell. Welcome to Eve Eden’s world in the small and strange town of Twin Forest. Eve has goals. She has dreams and ambitions that don’t involve staying in this weird, podunk town. When supernatural forces collide and drop her into the heart of England, she’s not exactly pleased. When Eve said she wanted to get the heck out of dodge, she didn’t mean getting transported into a torture chamber inside the dungeon of an actual castle. Damned souls rising from the depths of Hell. Her body’s sudden ability to heal quickly from wounds. Resisting her inexplicable attraction to a vampire who’s been sent to kill her. Can life get any worse for Eve? Apparently it can, because just around the corner at Twin Forest’s cemetery… waits the zombie horde.
<
The Review: 3.5 out of 5: Eve Eden is your typical 15 yr old, going to school & hanging with her BFF Kimi. After Kimi gifts her with a necklace she finds on a dig with her foster father and Kimi decides to cast a spell, Eve’s world is turned upside down and she is thrust into a supernatural showdown of epic proportions – for the necklace is special and doesn’t belong to Eve but she just can’t give it up and the owner will stop at nothing to get it back in their possession, even if it means raising an army of the undead. And if that isn’t enough she gets kidnapped by some ‘Vampire boy’ who seems to be a bit weird and whisked away to who knows where and ends up in whole other situation that she really doesn’t want to be in, whatever next?

This book was a lot of fun, I sat laughing to myself for most of it and just loved the humour in it. Eve was a great lead character, she didn’t really have a clue what was going on and sort of stumbled her way through hoping for the best. Everyone around her was clued in on what had/was happening and she was totally clueless which made for some really funny comic moments which she dealt with by using her awesome sense of humour as well as her limited skills. The other character I was most curious about was ‘Vampire boy’ aka Nathan, again I thought their exchanges were funny and a bit weird and I would have liked to have seen more of them together. The bug eating pug – Thunderbug, is genius and caused me to laugh so much especially when you read lines like this.…. 'He goes down. The vampire has just been farted into submission by a super flatulent pug.' I’m still laughing about it, it was hilarious! He kept popping up in moments where he was least expected and did his stuff. LOL.

I don’t know what I was expecting from this really because the only other Zombie book I had read was quite depressing, more of a realistic approach but this was a whole different kettle of fish and by using humour it was really light and easy to read making it a really great start to a new series. I must say that it did take a while before any zombies turned up and I was slightly confused with the flying/jumping from place to place but decided to go with the flow on that one and sort of got it. I was intrigued by the plotline which I don’t want to say too much about, but was still really interested in what had been happening during the place to place visits and hopefully they will be addressed in the sequel along with some answers for her because she was thrust into the action and still doesn’t know much about herself or what is really going on and why her family, friends and neighbours are training for the apocalypse. I want more of Eve & Nathan as well, there wasn’t enough in this book so hopefully we’re going to get lots more. Also, prepare yourself for a big WTH ending that is going to leave you desperate for the next book.

Vote for Alex TODAY! #HEROINETOURNEY + International Giveaway!

I recently posted to you about a little tournament hosted by YA-Sisterhood and last time our girl Alexandria Andros aka Alex from Jennifer L Arementout's, Covenant Series went head to head with Nora from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush Series and guess what? ALEX WON!!!! Whoohoo! Happy Dance!

Now because Alex won, her journey isn't over and if anything it's that step harder. Now Alex will take place in another tournament TODAY (December 23rd) and this time she has to beat...................Rosemarie Hathaway from Vampire Academy!!!
Ahhhh now this is going to be one tough round! Rose is another strong awesome heroine BUT I am confident that Alex can win this round too, so of course I'm 100% behind her.

I bet your wondering why you should vote for Alex?
Well I'm going to tell you all the reasons why I'm going to vote for her!

About Alex!
  • Alex is wild, rash and stubborn but she is also smart, funny and witty.
  • She always gets herself in trouble but then trouble always seems to find her.
  • She is unpredictable so you never know what she will do.
  • She is also 100% trustworthy.
  • She always stands up for what she believes in and she will always defend herself and others that she cares for.
  • Her love for others will always come before her own.
  • She has a smart mouth so don't ever expect a easy answer from her.
  • But mainly she is a fighter and  she won't ever give up!
Are you convinced yet? Well if not....here's a some quotes from our girl.

Alex's Quotes!

1) "It's just words and words mean nothing. Only action does."
2) "I was going to be super pissed in the afterlife if I died a virgin in this crap hole."
3)  "Are you lost, Lea? This isn't where they're handing out the free pregnancy tests."
<
4) "Okay. He had a point but it wasn't like I could tell him anything. I could see me now: Guess what? You ever watch Clash of the Titans or read any Greek fables? Well those gods are real and yeah, I'm sort of a descendant of them. Kind of like the stepchild no one wants claim. Oh, and I hadn't even been around mortals until three years ago. Can we still be friends?"

5) "Hey,"I reached out and tapped the hand that rested next to my left leg. "you are--"
The hand that I tapped reached up and clasped mine. I froze as he threaded his fingers through mine. "I'm what?" Beautiful. Kind. Patient. Perfect. I said none of those things. Instead I stared at his fingers, wondering if he knew he was holding my hand.
"You're always so....." His thumb moved over the top of my hand. The balm made his fingers cool and smooth. "What?"
I looked up, and I was immediately snared. His stare, his soft touch along my hand was doing very strange things. I felt hot and dizzy, like I'd been out in the sun all day. All I could think about was how his hand felt on mine. Then, what his hand would feel like on other parts. I shouldn't be thinking that at all. Aiden was a pure."

Why vote Alex over Rose?
<
Now Alex and Rose have all the same attributes. Their both strong kick-ass heroine's BUT Rose's story is now over and Alex's has only just begun. So if she's this awesome after JUST ONE BOOK imagine what she will be like once she comes to masters her powers.  I believe Alex will even surpass Rose when all the books are done...and honestly she is going kick her butt! See her potential people because she is going to blow you away!
>
<
Also IF ALEX wins....Jennifer L Armentrout has promised us:

500 Votes: If Alex reaches 500 votes, I will give you a juicy scene from Pure. It involves a pool, but will be edited to avoid spoilers.
750 Votes: If Alex gets 750 votes, I will give you Chapter 16 from Half-Blood in Aiden's POV. Yes, that chapter.
1000 Votes: If Alex get 1000 votes, I will give you Chapter 26 from Obsidian in Daemon's POV.
Yes, that chapter.
Winning votes: If Alex wins against Rose, I will write a very lengthy scene/ basically a freaking novella from Aiden's POV about a trip he and Leon took that involved searching down a certain daimon that got away at the end of Half-Blood. Now. If she wins, all of this will take me some time, of course.
How to vote! <
So starting today if you head on over to the YA-Sisterhood blog and VOTE! It's pretty simple!  Voting starts NOW!!! So please vote for Alex!

A Review for Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey

The Blurb from Goodreads: For seventeen years, Eloise Hart had no idea the world of Faery even existed. Now she has been abducted and trapped in the Rath of Lord Strahan, King of Faery. Strahan was only meant to rule for seven years, as Faery tradition dictates, and then give up his crown to another. But he won't comply, and now chaos threatens both worlds.

The only one who can break his stranglehold on the Faery court is his wife. . . Eloise's aunt Antonia. Using Eloise to lure Antonia, Strahan captures his wife, desperate to end the only threat to his reign. Now Eloise must become the rescuer. Together with her best friends Jo and Devin, she must forge alliances with other Fae, including a gorgeous protector named Lucas, and Strahan's mysterious son, Eldric—who may or may not betray them.

The Review: I have been a huge fan of Alyxandra Harvey’s ever since I read the Drake Chronicles and then of course, there was Haunting Violet which I loved too but for me, Stolen Awa y was an enjoyable read but my least favourite out of her all of work so far.

The story follows Eloise, who is a young girl who soon finds out that Faeries are real and  that her aunt; Antonia is the Queen of Faery. When the King of Faery kidnaps Eloise to try and lure out Antonia so he can end his only threat to his kingdom, Eloise goes on a dangerous journey to try and save her aunt. Along with the help of her two best friends, Jo and Devlin, Eloise's only option is to team up with the other Fae.....but who can she trust?

It seriously pains me to only rate Stolen Away a three because I adore Alyxandra's work, I really do but with Stolen Away I just didn’t connect with this story as much as I have done with her previous work.  Nonetheless, I still did enjoy this story and Alyxandra is still one of my favourite authors.

My favourite highlight of the book was the characters. Eloise and Jo were both very likeable who have similar traits with great sense of humours and are completely down to earth. It was easy to see why they were best friends. I found myself liking Jo more at one time because of her boy crazy attitude but then Eloise would shine threw with her strong personality, so it became quite hard to pick which one I liked more. Now Devlin is the third in the trio and best friends with both girls, I loved how they all stuck together and how loyal they were to one another. And I also really enjoyed Lucas and Eldric who were both completely swoon-worthy and yeah…..hot! ;)

The story itself had a good pace and I really liked the Fae aspect. And although it wasn’t overly complicated, I would have liked a bit more back ground information. But my main problem was I felt the general story started far too quickly for my liking. I would have preferred to have gotten to know the girls better before meeting Lucas and even Eloise being kidnapped.

Overall, Stolen Away really showed the potential that Alyxandra has in writing with different mythical creatures, and even though it wasn’t my favourite, I do believe it will be a hit with the readers so I still highly recommend it.

Cover Reveal for Chosen One's (Lost Souls #1) by Tiffany Truitt

Hey all, so the team at Entangled Publishings asked us to be apart of the cover reveal for a new and exciting series that will be released in 2012 and that book is Chosen One's by Tiffany Truitt!

We hadn't heard of this book before so we're exciting we now know about it because it sounds fantastic. We're going to show you the cover and the blurb....exciting huh?

So with out further ado......

*Drumroll Please*

What if you were mankind’s last chance at survival?

Sixteen-year-old Tess lives in a compound in what was once the Western United States, now decimated after a devastating fourth World War. But long before that, life as we knew it had been irrevocably changed, as women mysteriously lost the ability to bring forth life. Faced with the extinction of the human race, the government began the Council of Creators, meant to search out alternative methods of creating life. The resulting artificial human beings, or Chosen Ones, were extraordinarily beautiful, unbelievably strong, and unabashedly deadly.

Life is bleak, but uncomplicated for Tess as she follows the rigid rules of her dystopian society, until the day she begins work at Templeton, the training facility for newly created Chosen Ones. There, she meets James, a Chosen One whose odd love of music and reading rivals only her own. The attraction between the two is immediate in its intensity—and overwhelming in its danger.

But there is more to the goings-on at Templeton than Tess ever knew, and as the veil is lifted from her eyes, she uncovers a dark underground movement bent not on taking down the Chosen Ones, but the Council itself. Will Tess be able to stand up to those who would oppress her, even if it means giving up the only happiness in her life?

Available April 2012.

Donna's thoughts: I really like it and it stands out and makes me think, wow this a book I'm interested in reading. I love the fonts on the wording and I really like the details on the girls dress and the flooring. Overall, a great cover and I can't wait to read the book.

The Blurb from Goodreads: Sometimes school is murder. Allie Sheridan's world is falling apart. She hates her school. Her brother has run away from home. And she's just been arrested. Again.
This time her parents have finally had enough. They cut her off from her friends and send her away to a boarding school for problem teenagers. But Cimmeria Academy is no ordinary school. Its rules are strangely archaic. It allows no computers or phones. Its students are an odd mixture of the gifted, the tough and the privileged. And then there's the secretive Night School, whose activities other students are forbidden even to watch. When Allie is attacked one night the incident sets off a chain of events leading to the violent death of a girl at the summer ball. As the school begins to seem like a very dangerous place, Allie must learn who she can trust. And what's really going on at Cimmeria Academy.

The Review: As soon as I seen the Night School book cover on Goodreads I knew I wanted to read it, I mean just look at it, it’s gorgeous. Not only that but it has a very intriguing blub and so I knew I had to get it. Now let me tell you, after reading it Night School is a mysterious, thrilling and dangerous ride, one that will leave readers guessing to the very end and I loved it!

Allie Sheridan’s life was perfect, well that was until her older brother Christopher disappeared one day leaving only a note to saying not to look for him. Not knowing where her brother was had a huge affect on Allie and so she turned from good girl to bad girl and ends up getting herself in trouble with the police several times. However, after the third time Allie’s parents decide to send her to Cimmeria Academy, a legacy school where the best and richest students go to try and sort her out.

During her time at Cimmeria Academy, Allie quickly makes friends and starts to enjoy it there but when strange things start happening she can’t help notice that things aren’t what they seem. Everyone seems to be hiding secrets that involve the Night School students; a group of selected students whose activates aren’t even talked about. But when one of her classmates is murdered at the summer ball and rumours start flying that Allie was involved, she soon becomes determined to find out what’s going on a Cimmeria Academy…..but who can she trust and what secret’s will she reveal?

Night School is the first book in a new and exciting series by author CJ Daughtery and I know this will be a hit amongst the readers. From the very start you’re thrown in a mysterious and dangerous world and it is easy to love it. I admit I did feel the first 100 pages moved pretty slowly but I now realise that this was done so we got to know Allie and got the feel for Cimmeria Academy before the story really kicks off. We get to know a lot of characters, some nice and some not and they all play a key part in the story, especially the Night School students. I have to say trying to figure out what their group was involved with was a complete mystery. I even turned to thinking that maybe this was a paranormal book because I just couldn’t figure it out, but eventually everything was revealed and I thought it was an excellent twist.

One of my favourite things in this book was the characters, they are so loveable. Allie is a fantastic character, she’s smart, she’s funny and she doesn’t let anyone walk all over her.  When Katie tries to pick on her she quickly speaks up and doesn’t take any crap. Then there’s Jo, Lucas and Rachel who are all very loyal friends to Allie and my favourite amongst the three has to be Lucas. Even though he’s involved with the Night School he’s still Allie’s friend even when everyone else turns against her. But then we have Carter. He was one tough guy! He’s so moody and broody to start with that you can’t help love him and it was pretty obvious that he liked Allie. He and Allie have a few touching scenes together and you truly see their romance develop. It’s actually really sweet and I loved how he was will to do whatever to help Allie. It’s safe to say I can’t wait to see what comes next with them. One character I really didn’t like was Sylvain, he was creepy and sleazy and if I was Allie, I wouldn’t have forgiven him but she did.

Overall, CJ Daugherty has done a great job with Night School and if you’re looking for something new, exciting and fresh, then this is the book for you. I can’t wait for the next instalment and I’m praying it comes soon.

Thank you to Atom for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Teaser Tuesday (34#)

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
1) Grab your current read
2) Open to a random page
3) Share one (1) OR two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
4) Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Hey guys Jess here, sorry this is late today, but I actually wanted to share a teaser from the book I'm currently reading for review...so here are a couple of teasers from Michelle Hodkin's The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

So this first one comes from Mara and Noah's interaction. You'll either love Noah, or think he's a complete jerk from this quote, it really depends on how you want to see it.

His half smile morphed into a whole grin.
Noah: "Oh, I'm definitely a smuthound with daddy issues."
Mara: "I guess you nailed me, then."
Noah: "Not yet"

Ok this next one is between Mara and her (current) only friend at her new school, Jamie. This quote will also make you realise how sexy Noah actually is. Rebel without a cause and all that...

Jamie: "So it begins." Jamie sighed.
Mara: "Shut up." I turned around so he couldn't see me flush a deeper shade of red.
Jamie: "If he wasn't such a dick, I'd applaud," Jamie said. "You could start a fire with the heat between you two."
Mara: "You're mistaking bitter animosity for heartfelt affection," I said.

So there you go. Two quotes, from two different people but clearly about the same person. I loved these two quotes, they really made me laugh! This book is gripping, and I can't put it down!

That's it from me this week! Tomorrow there will be Waiting on Wednesday, as I'm still unclear on what boyfriend to use!

What's your Teaser Tuesday?

A Review for I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies #1) by Pittacus Lore

The Blurb from Goodreads: Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.

But they know.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.

I am Number Four.

I am next.

The Review: I'm not one for Sci-fi alien books. I had a hard time reading one called POD, and thought I'd stop at that. But then I was RAK'ed I Am Number Four by our friend Misty. I'd wanted to read it because of the hype, and then the movie came out with Alex Pettyfer and because I'm quite partial to him as a person (obvious reasons lol), it made me want to read the book even more before finally watching the movie. So I started the book, and I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from page 1 and pretty much couldn't put it down. The writing is incredible and the characters and world building is one that will leave you with pictures in your head (if you don't already have the movie in your head). Sadly, because I already knew Alex Pettyfer was to play John Smith, I pictured him through out the entire time I read the book. And that's totally fine with me, but it was still a little weird when I found out that the book John was actually only 15, Alex Pettyfer for intense and purposes doesn't look 15...any more. Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the differences between the book and the movie (even though there was  a lot).

I pretty much loved every minute of this book. I found John an easy character to like and it was refreshing to finally read a book from a male narrative rather than a 'sometimes' whiny female narrative. I loved all the powers that came to John, his lights, his fire resistance, and his telekinesis. The training scenes with he and Henri were especially fun to read about.

I'm not going to talk much about the book because the less you know, the better it will be when everything comes into play on the page. But pretty much this book is always full of action, full of romance, full of funny moments, full of a total douche bag named Mark James (who by the way redeems himself in the end). Anyway there's always something going on on the page and its full of mystery and thrills.

I don't have a lot of cons about this book, except one. Towards the end so much happens in a long space of time, that it made the book seem a little long and a little blahh. I got a little fed up towards the end (during the epic battle I might add), I think I was just ready to have everything come together after going through so much in the book. Other than a serious amount of action and information in the end there isn't anything remotely bad about this book.

Read it, enjoy it, love it.

The Blurb from Goodreads: Word’s gotten around Heaven (and Hell) that Amy tricked the angel Gabriel and helped Adam with his second trial with temptation. Now Samson shows up on her doorstep looking for true love, and Delilah’s not far behind, insisting she wasn’t the one who cut off his hair. In order to get both of them out of her ice cream shop and back into each others’ arms, Amy must become a relationship expert and a detective while completing Step Two of Witches Anonymous. But will believing in a higher power help Amy in her quest, or make matters worse?

The Review: So, in this festive edition of Witches Anonymous we find Amy still being hounded by the lusty Lucifer, Pining for Adam whilst he’s off ‘finding himself’, wondering what on earth has happened to her sister and still trying not to use her magic. It’s nearly Christmas and Amy is hosting a WA meeting in her store when low and behold who bursts into the place but Samson followed shortly after by Delilah. Yes, the Samson & Delilah from the bible with long hair and strength in abundance galore, Guess it’s their turn for redemption as he demands that Amy finds out the truth behind Delilah’s betrayal. Amy hasn’t got a clue what is going on and while she tries to help out she finds that maybe Delilah wasn’t as much to blame as we’d been lead to believe, but how can she know for sure? and where the hell did that cat come from?
Yet more fun and games for Amy in the form of another biblical story- I’m sensing a theme to the series here- and its Samson’s turn. This was yet another easy read, good fun, filled with laugh out loud, comic moments and no let-up in the pace. Amy is still trying to stay on the WA program but struggles when she constantly has these strange circumstances thrust upon her but she deals with them in typical Amy fashion and although she is all about Adam at the minute she seems to warming back up to Luc especially after what happens in this. Loved how she tried to make Adam’s first Christmas back really special because being a witch, it wasn’t something she celebrated so that was nice and she seemed to really get into Christmas and the solstice too for her friend. Just thinking about Amy, she wants to let us think she is some sort of heathen but deep down she is really a good person, putting other people before herself and always trying to do the right thing and again I’m wondering what the wording of a certain spell has really done for Amy. It’s hard not to be spoilery with my reviews because I just want to ramble about it, it was like 2 stories in one and I got my first sad moment of the series in this plus my heart bled for a couple of people too but that just made me love them more and with this being a festive edition the biggest message I got from this was love & forgiveness and left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. I can’t wait to find out what’s next for Amy & the gang.

Jess's thoughts: I reviewed this book a while back and I enjoyed it. It wasn't great but it was still good. The covers I like, but I really like the UK cover this time, I love all the red on the outside and the font just stands out a lot more than the US one.

Donna's thoughts: I've wanted to read this book for a while but I've heard mixes reviews about it. Now the covers I like. I really like but which one do I like more? I'm going with the UK one. Even though they've pretty much kept it the same, I like how they've made the title stand out more and of course I like the read leaves rather than the brown ones on the US cover. UK for me!

Jess's thoughts: This is a hard one. I haven't heard about this book but I think I definitely preder the US cover. The UK is great too but the US cover just screams "Read me now!"

Donna's thoughts: US, US, US! US wins! I really do like the UK one but I adore the purple of the US  cover, I also like that you can see the wings slightly coming out of the girls back. Where as the UK one I'm not 100% sure what that girls doing. lol. US for me!

Which do you prefer?
