The Blurb from Goodreads: Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists. Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen. As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

The Review: As soon as I heard about Everneath, I knew I wanted to read it. Firstly, the cover caught my attention because really look how beautiful is it? Secondly, the blurb is really intriguing and I'm a huge fan of Greek mythology, so I was excited to see where Brodi Ashton took the story and thirdly, a love triangle in the story....what's not to like? Well.....even though I liked it, I didn't love it but I think it's definitely got potential.

Everneath follows the life of teenager Nikki Beckett and last spring she was sucked into the Underworld and has now spent the last six months there with Cole; the immortal who is responsible for putting her there. When Nikki returns to earth, she has six months to try and reconnect with the people she loves and also bring some peace to them about her disappearance. But the one person she wants to connect with the most is her boyfriend Jack, whose face has kept her going for all those months. With the darkness fast approaching on her time, it looks like Jack's the only one who can help Nikki find out the answers she seeks but that means going against Cole and leading her to finding out the truth.....about the Everneath.

I've been thinking about this book for a few days now and even after I’ve finished this book I have mixed feelings about it. I liked it and I didn't like but overall, the general story and characters were really enjoyable. This book reminded me of Abandon by Meg Cabot and I'll be honest, I didn't like that book because of how much the story jumped around from past to present. Everneath was quite similar but if anything it was slightly better. My main problem was I didn't really like the flash backs, how the story jumped from past to present. I would have preferred a prequel of the story to understand and connect with the story that much more.

Despite the above points there were still some really good parts of the book, starting with the characters who I loved. I loved Nikki and she starts off quite depressed and in her shell but as the story progresses  you see her to come out of her shell and fight back, especially when she becomes close to Jack again. She starts to transform into the girl she was before but now she knows how the world really works. She goes from a quiet girl to quite a strong character that starts to stand up for herself especially when Cole is he’s trying convince her to return to the Everneath.
Now my favourite character has to be Jack. From the moment he comes into the story, you just no he's going to be a great love interest for Nikki and he really was. He really cares about her and it really shows during the story. He makes sacrifices for her that you wouldn't believe but mostly he never forgot or stopped loving her while she was away and he will do anything to keep her. It was nice to read about how much he loved her and you can honestly see the love between the two characters.
Now Cole is a different story because I had a love hate relationship with him. I hated how he tricked Nikki into going to the Underworld, knowing what it would do to her and knowing it would take her away from her loved ones. It's safe to say he has an alternative motive and I didn't like what I saw of him.

The story itself was fast paced, exciting and the mythology was used very well. Brodi Ashton opened up a whole new world for me with the Daughters of Persephone and I have to admit, I want more.   And be prepared because there is huge cliff-hanger....OMG! Yes, it's a very big one so I am looking forward to the next book; I just hope it doesn't jump around as much as Everneath.

Great review! You summed it up pretty well thoguh I think I liked it a bit more than you. I didn't this much more than Abandon but I agree Abandon felt all over the place sometimes.

I'll agree with the three stars, that you liked it and it was worth the read. I sort of liked this book. I coulnd't bring myself to like such a selfish heroine. Nikki is soooo selfish. he comes back to the Surface with selfish intentions, to say goodbye to everyone, and yet all she ends up doing is hurting everyone she loved. This has nothing to do with the guys issue that EVERY young adult book HAS to have. Another love triangle?! Seriously?! In the true myth of Hades and Persephone, there was just Hades. No one else. And while I felt sympathy towards Jack, and didn't particularly like Cole, I think that Nikki should end up with neither boy, because she's so selfish and self-absorbed. ugh. I'll read Everbound, and the novella, and the third book, but I'm not sold on this trilogy, and definitely not invested enough. Just my opinion. Thanks for the review!
