The Review: Kate Kaynak – lead editor at Spencer Hill Press and editor of the phenomenal Covenant series and Cursed by Jennifer L.Armentrout, is the author behind this interesting book – Minder, book one in the Ganzfield series.
Minder follows the story of a teenage girl called Maddie Dunn, while during a terrifying time finds out that she has a gift that can potentially harm people if she doesn’t learn to get it under control. Maddie soon finds herself taken away from her family that she loves and finds herself at a new school which is a special training facility called Ganzfield, where there are other people– just like her. Being the new kid sucks but when her gift makes her a bit of an outcast, Maddie finds it hard to settle in. Well, that is until she meets Trevor – who like her is a bit of an outcast. Together they form a strong and intense relationship and are taken on a whirl journey to discover that their soul-mates.
I really enjoyed Minder. The opening chapter pulls you straight in and it doesn’t let up until the very last page. The concept of this story isn’t entirely new to me but I thought Kate Kaynak added her own twists to it and really it became a very enjoyable novel.
What made this a stand out read for me were the characters, I really managed to connect with Maddie as the female lead and I found her very likable. She struggles to start with at the new school and also with the fact that she could potentially harm someone but as the days go by, she really settles into everything, but that’s mainly because of the help from Trevor. He’s a very sweet male lead. He’s everything a girl could want from a novel because he’s so swoon worthy. Their relationship is very fast paced, maybe a little too fast for my liking but I still enjoyed their journey and I loved the connection they had.
Overall, Kate Kaynak has created a fun packed, thrilling and exciting read with Minder. One I highly recommend to you X-Men fans because this story is definitely not one to miss out on and I'll be keeping my eye out for more work by this author.
