“Doesn’t this seem rather odd?” Emma asked, frowning. Earthquake, fire, Cormac. Something wasn’t right. She worried at it like a loose tooth.
Gretchen snorted. “I’m holding a pink dog. Odd doesn’t quite cover it.”
“Daphne just fainted,” Penelope pointed out, crossing her arms so her dress wouldn’t cling to her figure. Her grandmother would never forgive her the impropriety. Her parents wouldn’t care, they rarely came out into society. The other fashionable girls in their thin white gowns were soaked through, corsets ribbons and legs outlined in great scandalous detail. A young lord tripped over his own foot when he turned and saw through Emma’s wet dress. Penelope shifted to cover her, glowering at him so fiercely he hid behind a tree.
Gretchen tilted her head as chaos continued to boil around them. “Daphne is playacting,” she said dismissively. “And not very well, I might add. Who faints in such a comfortable position? Not to mention she ought to have toppled right into those rosebushes if gravity was at all involved.” She sighed. “And that footman is barely strong enough to hold that kind of bucket. He’s doing it all wrong.” She thrust the wet dog at Penelope. “Here, take the teacake, would you?” She dashed away toward the struggling footman. “Lift with your knees, not your back, muttonhead!”
Emma watched her go, resigned. Gretchen would now classify this as the best ball they’d ever attended since she’d avoided the actual social gathering in favor of hauling buckets of water and battling a fire. In the rain, no less. Gretchen loved the rain. Emma was rather less enamoured of it. She pushed her soggy hair out of her face where it clung uncomfortably to her forehead. At least it would help stop the fire from spreading. Already it seemed less virulent, its burning jagged teeth easing from bite to nibble.
“I suppose we ought to help,” Penelope said dubiously. She spotted Mr. Cohen cowering under the cover of an elm tree. “That tears it,” she muttered. “Let’s, shall we?”
Emma followed her gaze. “I thought you liked him.”
Penelope glanced away, her cheeks red as berries. “Not anymore.”
She scowled. “What did he do?”
“Nothing. It’s not important.”
“Penelope. I’m wet and cold and perfectly willing to shove him into the shrubbery.”
“He called me fat.”
Emma hissed out a breath. “I beg your pardon.”
“It’s nothing, really.” She forced her voice not to wobble.  “He embarrassed me, is all.”
“Think how embarrassed he’ll be when I wrap his smalls around his fat head.”
Penelope, feeling decidedly more cheerful, had to drag Emma toward the burning house, where they stood uncertainly at the edge of a line of shouting men. Someone broke the window from inside the ballroom, glass cracking into the hollyhocks.  Smoldering drapes followed, coiling like a smoke-breathing serpent.
“Why does Emma look like she’s swallowed a bee?” Gretchen asked when her cousins pushed their way toward her.
“Mr. Cohen called Penelope fat and crazy,” Emma replied.
Gretchen’s smiled died. “Did he, now?”
Penelope now felt perfectly vindicated and couldn’t quite recall why she’d let Mr. Cohen hurt her feelings in the first place. “It’s nothing.”
“I hope he wakes up swollen like a balloon,” Gretchen muttered.
While her cousins stewed and plotted painful vengeance involving Mr. Cohen swelling to such proportions that all the buttons popped off his evening wear and he ended up naked in the ballroom, Penelope couldn’t help but admire the parade of half-dressed men under a flash of lightning. “Well, now,” she grinned appreciatively, wounded pride utterly erased. “There should be more fires, don’t you think?”
“What?” The sight of Cormac in his shirtsleeves, the wet fabric clinging to his muscles was particularly distracting. Emma felt compelled to stare, as if under some sort of spell. She blinked rain out of her eyelashes when Cormac went blurry. She had to remind herself that she’d sworn to hate him. She turned her attention back to the buckets sloshing from hand to hand, until her fingers cramped. Smoke stung her eyes and seared her throat.
“And I had no idea Tobias was so well-muscled, did you?” When the rain faded to a patter in the leaves, Penelope pouted. “Drat. What a shame. If we’re not all going to die horribly in flames, I’d rather like to see more shirtsleeves.”

Alyxandra Harvey About the author:
Alyxandra Harvey lives in a stone Victorian house in Ontario, Canada with a few resident ghosts who are allowed to stay as long as they keep company manners. She loves medieval dresses, used to be able to recite all of The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, and has been accused, more than once, of being born in the wrong century. She believes this to be mostly true except for the fact that she really likes running water, women’s rights, and ice cream.
Among her favourite books are ‘The Wood Wife’ by Terri Windling, ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Bronte, and of course, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. Elizabeth Bennet is her hero because she’s smart and sassy, and Mr. Darcy is, well, yum.
Aside from the ghosts, she also lives with husband and their dogs. She likes cinnamon lattes, tattoos and books.

A Review for Blood Prophecy (Drake Chronicles #6) by Alyxandra Harvery

In the thrilling conclusion of the Drake Chronicles, love and loyalties will be tested ... and proven once and for all.
Solange Drake has been officially crowned Queen of the Vampires, fulfilling the centuries old prophecy that foretold the rise to power of a daughter born to an ancient vampire line. Except Solange's thoughts and actions are no longer her own—she's been slowly being possessed by the spirit of Viola, the first daughter born into the Drake line, since her bloodchange. And instead of uniting the vampire tribes under the rule of an ancient daughter as the prophecy predicted, Viola would rather destroy them all and enslave humans in a personal vendetta for the devastation both wrought to her life centuries ago. Can Solange break her hold in time to save everyone she loves from a vampire civil war, hunter attack, and each other? Not everyone will survive the prophecy . . . perhaps not even her.

The Review: I've followed The Drake Chronicles ever since the first book and I still can't believe it's 3 years later and I've just read the last book. No more Drakes, no more swoon-worthy quotes and no more deadly situations for them. It's a sad time!

Blood Prophecy brings us the conclusion to the Drake story and with Solange being crowned Queen of the Vampires, it's sure does bring a dangerous, exciting and engaging time. Solange has been taken over by Viola and with Viola being stronger than her, Solange has no choice but to battle it out with her. However, Solange has to take this journey all on her own...but who will come through stronger.

The Drake Series has been one of my favourite series of all time and I'm so pleased that I  enjoyed Blood Prophecy. I thought for a series finale it was concluded very well because the story in whole just came together so well. As I was reading, I was doing a little tick to make sure everything I was unsure about all came together and because the author's writing is so spot on plus her ability to weave each characters story all together, everything falls into place so well. Alyxandra never fails to amaze me. I've never  been unhappy with this series and it's one that will stay with me for a long time.

The characters also never fail to disappoint me. Lucy, Solange, Kieran and Nicholas, I really love them. They all deserved the best ending they could have gotten and while I really would have liked an epilogue, I still felt it was a good ending for them. Lucy will always remain my favourite. She's fun and so quirky. She has so many humours quote that I couldn't help laugh, like this;

“The Drake farmhouse was like the chimpanzee enclosure at the zoo when feeding time was late.
You know, if all the chimpanzees were undead.
And insane.” - Lucy

And Nicholas will always be my favourite boy! I love his relationship with Lucy - how he's so willing to protect her no matter. He will do anything to keep her safe..I love it! I really do wonder how their relationship will play out in the future. So I say this, PLEASE ALYX, WRITE A EPILOGUE NOVELLA!! ;) I still have to wonder why she decided to end it where she did because I believe there's still so much more that could come from this series, but least the series went out with a bang and on such a high.

All in all, Blood Prophecy provided a great ending to a fantastic series and it's a series that I'm sad to leave behind. It's full of 100% entertainment, laugh out loud and quirky moments, hot brothers and swoon-worthy quotes. It's definitely not a series you want to miss out on.

"I can still smell his blood, Lucy. I can smell it everywhere. It's in the grass, in the air, on me. I'm not safe."
<
When the vampire tribes convene for the rare Blood Moon ceremonies, Solange Drake is plunged into a battle with her feral nature.
The Drake brothers have been raised knowing they had to protect their younger sister at all cost. But forbidden magic and a mysterious stranger have put all of them in terrible danger.
Nicholas is going to have to make a difficult choice: between his girlfriend, Lucy, and his little sister, Solange - blood or love?

The Review: 4.5 out of  5! After that shocking cliff-hanger in Bleeding Hearts, Lucy, Kieran and Solange deal with the aftermath of Solange feeding off a human. Not only that, but with the Blood Moon just around the corner, all the Drake’s are on high alert and are forced to go into a two week lock down, which means – no leaving the safety nets. Sounds easy? Guess again! With the furies arrival and Solange’s struggles with blood lust, it’s about to get a whole load more dangerous in Violet Hills.
<
I loved it, I just loved it! Blood Moon is everything I expected it to be and more, and it sure is one hell of a shocking ride. From the very first page I was literally a bundle of nerves because I could not believe the shocking and fantastic way that Alyxandra Harvey has taken this series. It’s become so unpredictable and I can never guess what to expect next.
<
The story this time around was full of action with amazing and witty scene's but was a little different from the previous books. Before we’ve always seen a member of the Drake family finding love but in Blood Moon, this didn’t happen. There is still good romance to the story, especially with characters like Nicolas and Lucy – who are so, so cute but, I can’t help ask when will the other brothers; Duncan, Sebastian & Marcus find love? I’d really like to see their stories and get to know them as characters better.
<
The book alternates between Lucy, Solange and Nicholas and we get a small chapter from Kieran too and I really loved it. Their all my favourite characters and I enjoy how all the other characters are involved too. Solange’s character goes through a massive change and I was utterly frustrated with the storyline but in such a good way. I’m telling you now – you won’t believe what happens. And that cliff-hanger...ahhh! If you thought the one from Bleeding Hearts was bad, wait till you read this, it's  jaw dropper!
<
Overall, now were on book five in this series and it's still going strong as ever. It’s one of my favourite ones and I can’t wait to see what comes next with book 6.

A Review for Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey

The Blurb from Goodreads: For seventeen years, Eloise Hart had no idea the world of Faery even existed. Now she has been abducted and trapped in the Rath of Lord Strahan, King of Faery. Strahan was only meant to rule for seven years, as Faery tradition dictates, and then give up his crown to another. But he won't comply, and now chaos threatens both worlds.

The only one who can break his stranglehold on the Faery court is his wife. . . Eloise's aunt Antonia. Using Eloise to lure Antonia, Strahan captures his wife, desperate to end the only threat to his reign. Now Eloise must become the rescuer. Together with her best friends Jo and Devin, she must forge alliances with other Fae, including a gorgeous protector named Lucas, and Strahan's mysterious son, Eldric—who may or may not betray them.

The Review: I have been a huge fan of Alyxandra Harvey’s ever since I read the Drake Chronicles and then of course, there was Haunting Violet which I loved too but for me, Stolen Awa y was an enjoyable read but my least favourite out of her all of work so far.

The story follows Eloise, who is a young girl who soon finds out that Faeries are real and  that her aunt; Antonia is the Queen of Faery. When the King of Faery kidnaps Eloise to try and lure out Antonia so he can end his only threat to his kingdom, Eloise goes on a dangerous journey to try and save her aunt. Along with the help of her two best friends, Jo and Devlin, Eloise's only option is to team up with the other Fae.....but who can she trust?

It seriously pains me to only rate Stolen Away a three because I adore Alyxandra's work, I really do but with Stolen Away I just didn’t connect with this story as much as I have done with her previous work.  Nonetheless, I still did enjoy this story and Alyxandra is still one of my favourite authors.

My favourite highlight of the book was the characters. Eloise and Jo were both very likeable who have similar traits with great sense of humours and are completely down to earth. It was easy to see why they were best friends. I found myself liking Jo more at one time because of her boy crazy attitude but then Eloise would shine threw with her strong personality, so it became quite hard to pick which one I liked more. Now Devlin is the third in the trio and best friends with both girls, I loved how they all stuck together and how loyal they were to one another. And I also really enjoyed Lucas and Eldric who were both completely swoon-worthy and yeah…..hot! ;)

The story itself had a good pace and I really liked the Fae aspect. And although it wasn’t overly complicated, I would have liked a bit more back ground information. But my main problem was I felt the general story started far too quickly for my liking. I would have preferred to have gotten to know the girls better before meeting Lucas and even Eloise being kidnapped.

Overall, Stolen Away really showed the potential that Alyxandra has in writing with different mythical creatures, and even though it wasn’t my favourite, I do believe it will be a hit with the readers so I still highly recommend it.

The Blurb from Goodreads: The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill. Lucy's cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy's parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn't possibly happen in this tiny town. But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn't understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won't admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.
<
The Review: I’ve always been a huge fan of Alexandra Harvey’s work and The Drake Chronicle series is one of my favourites. As you can all tell we’re now on book 4 and usually you would expect the series would lose the excitement that it had when it first started, well….not this series. This series is just as exciting, dangerous and thrilling as ever and it just keeps getting better and better!

In Bleeding Hearts the story is told from Lucy’s, Christabel’s & Conner’s point of view. Christabel is now living with Lucy because her mother is in rehab. While she’s there, Lucy tells her the town is run by a dangerous gang, rather than explaining that it’s actually full of Vampires. Christabel doesn’t believe Lucy’s story until she is kidnapped by mistake by the new leader of the Hel-Blar. Lucky for her, Connor Drake comes to her rescue but it only leads to more a dangerous situation. Can Connor save Christabel in time?

I loved it! Alyxandra Harvey has done it again with her awesome and dangerous storyline that leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat. With fast paced, exciting and thrilling scenes that can only leave you wanting more.

I’ll admit I was a little bit hesitant when I found out a new character was going to be introduced especially Lucy’s cousin. I expected Christabel to be an older, bratty cousin and boy was I surprised. She was actually a down to earth girl who loves reading and I think she was a great addition to the story. Then we see Lucy, who I’ve always loved. And she was just as great as ever. Feisty, determined and strong and I have to say I think she made the right choices in the end. I did feel sorry for her when she felt she was losing her family but I’m glad she had Nicholas’s support to help her get through it. Then finally we have Connor. Come on, who’s not going to like another Drake brother? Connor was just as lovable as his brothers and I loved how protective he was of Christabel. Although I feel there weren’t as many romantic scenes with them as a couple compared to the previous books, I still really enjoyed their relationship and it took a few interesting and unexpected turns.

I felt this time around this book was more centred on the story of the Hel-Blar and Drake family and it’s nice to see the story slowly develop right in front of your eyes. I honestly, have no idea what is going to happen next and Alyxandra did throw some shocking curve balls in the story. I have to say as much as I loved this book, I’m still not sure how I feel about Solange’s development as a character. She was the character that most shocked me during trough-out this story and I’m eager to find out what will happen next.

Overall, Bleeding Hearts is a fantastic addition to the Drake Chronicles. If Alyxandra Harvey keeps knocking out books as good as these, then you guys won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t read this series, I suggest you do. Because it’s not one you want to miss out on.

Thank you to Bloomsbury UK for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

<
The Review: I’ve always been a fan of Alyxandra Harvey’s work ever since reading her other series ‘The Drake Chronicles’, so when I heard she was bringing out a new book, I was thrilled. Admittedly, when I started this book I was a little put off by the fact that it’s in past tense but did Alyxandra disappoint? OF COURSE SHE DOESN’T!

This story follows Violet, a young girl who doesn’t believe in ghosts and who lives with her mother and friend in late 1800’s. Violet spends her days helping her mother, con people into believing she can see dead people in order to put food on the table. What Violet doesn’t expect to see is a dead person for real and nonetheless, a dead person who has suffered a horrible death. It’s now Violet’s journey to uncover the murderer……because the killer is still on the loose.

From page one you’re swept into a gothic, chilling and frightening story. Alyxandra has created a new world that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Her detailed description’s transport you into the book and makes you imagine you are walking in the characters shoes. You can tell by reading this how much work has gone into the story, the different era is captured brilliantly and the minor details are very much alive in this book. This book shows you have truly talented Alyxandra really is.

The characters were completely loveable. Violet is a strong minded girl that can put up with a lot and Colin, a best friend any girl could dream of. Colin and Violet’s romance was steadily played out and it didn’t feel forced. It was nice to be able to go on their journey with them and watch their love grow. Violet’s mother, celeste was a love-hate character for me. She was always so cold but she tried to do right by her daughter by marrying her off but you can’t help feel that she’s doing that just so she doesn’t have to take care of her anymore. Like I said, love-hate character.

Overall, Haunting Violet is a fresh and exciting new book full of mystery, murder, romance with the supernatural edge to give the book that extra bit of awesomeness. Anyone who loved Alxyandra’s previous work, I’m sure you’ll love this too. Highly recommendation for young adults.
