The Blurb from Goodreads: “It’s a good day to die.” My mother holds my arm fiercely. “But as you grieve for me, listen for the voices. Then, you must get the ink.”

Sparrow stumbles between two worlds, Light and dark, love and hate, what is real and what is in her mind. When her mother dies on the Reservation, Sparrow’s world is shadowed with anger and narrowed by pain. The voices arrive, but are they real? And how can a tattoo make her stronger?

The Review: “But as you grieve for me, listen for the voices. Then, you must get the ink.” And with that Sparrow’s Mother died and her life is turned upside down when she is made to move to Washington DC with her Aunt. Her mother’s words come true when she starts hearing voices, a specific voice, but thinks that she is going crazy. She has always had strange dreams but lately they have become something more and apparently someone is out to get her and she needs protection from an unlikely source. That is until she gets her Ink, which must be done under certain conditions and by the same man who tattooed her mother. She wants to confide in her friends but finds it hard and besides, she has her own way of dealing with things but why is it so important that she be inked?

I liked this book, it was quite short so the pace was really fast, maybe a bit too fast but I liked it none the less. It was interesting the way the issues that Sparrow had to deal with were weaved together throughout the book. Everything was good about it and to be honest I wished it was longer so that we could have explored the characters and the plot more. I really liked that it was laced with Native American lore, I know nothing about it but it got my curiosity going and I would love to see it delved into and explained more in a sequel because this felt like a teaser novella for a bigger series and I hope that’s what we’ll get because I would read any follow ups. Also I was loving the tattoo thing as well because they are a passion of mine (apart from reading) so when a book features them, I always take notice. It was a good, quick paced, short story though, with tons of potential. 3.5 out of 5.

I don't know much about native american lore either, but this sounds really interesting for a quick read. Great review! :)
