When raven shifter Riley Porter was given sanctuary by the Phoenix Pack, she let them believe she had left her flock. Reluctant to divulge the secrets of her past, she was still embraced as family. Only Tao Lukas, the protective and passionate Head Enforcer of the pack, was resistant to the enigmatic shifter. Until Riley started to arouse in him something other than suspicion.

Tao doesn’t trust lone shifters, especially ones so guarded—and tempting. But the sexual tension between them is making them both come undone, and vulnerable to more than desire. All Tao wants is for Riley to stay with him and to trust him with the truth of her past.

As Riley’s mysteries come to light, so does a danger that threatens not only her life but the safety of the entire pack. For Tao, keeping Riley safe means keeping her close—forever—as his mate.

The Review: I hate to say this but is it me or is this series starting to feel a bit repetitive? Gaah! I adore this series and the authors work but with the release of the last few books I’m starting to find more and more faults with them and I honestly don’t want to. I want to love them all but for me Fierce Obsessions was my least favourite book from the series.

This story started WAY too quickly. There was no suspense, no build up, it was just WHAM and the story had already started before I even knew it. I guess I felt a little cheated. Tao has been always been a favourite character of mine so I was majorly excited when he was getting his own story but something about his and Riley’s story just didn’t click. I’m not sure if the author gave us any hints that the story would involve Tao or Riley (maybe I forgot if she did, I don’t know) but I was a little surprised that Riley was Tao’s love interest. And that’s not because she’s a raven shifter which was pretty cool to read about but, because I never felt any hint or spark between the two characters during previous books. It’s like the story starts and Tao is already so in love with Riley that he’ll do anything for her – it was all just so quick.

I also wasn’t a fan that most (I say most, I mean half) of the book taking placed away from the Phoenix territory. Tao and Riley leave pretty early on to go visit her Raven pack and I wouldn’t have minded but it was so early on that I wasn’t invested in Riley that much as a character to care what happened before she became a lone Raven. I wanted to get to know Riley more before having to get to know all the people from her life before and also I wanted more time to explore Tao and Riley’s relationship before being whisked away from my favourite pack, so yes, I felt it took me away from the story a little.

And Greta – I used to find her funny now she just grates on my nerves. Please do something about her!

The rest of the story was pretty enjoyable to read and I loved being back with my favourite characters. I understand with a series this big that I won’t enjoy every book but I feel like the last few have been a little rushed and I’m hoping the author will slow down a little. I will continue to support the author and this series because I do love them, it’s just a shame I couldn’t enjoy this one more.

Thank you to Montlake Romance for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

{Review} The Secret History of Us by Jessi Kirby

Release Date: August 1st, 2017
Finished Date: May 20th, 2017
Publishers: Harper360
Genre: YA, Contemporary, Romance
Source: For Review
Format: Paperback
Pages: 288
Buy: Amazon UK Amazon US / The Book Depo

Gorgeously written and emotionally charged, The Secret History of Us explores the difficult journey of a teenage girl who must piece her life together after losing her memory in a near-fatal accident.

When Olivia awakes in a hospital bed following a car accident that almost took her life, she can’t remember the details about how she got there. She figures the fog is just a symptom of being in a week-long coma, but as time goes on, she realizes she’s lost more than just the last several days of her life—she’s lost her memory of the last four years. Gone is any recollection of starting or graduating high school; the prom; or her steady boyfriend Matt. Trying to figure out who she is feels impossible when everyone keeps telling her who she was.

As Liv tries to block out what her family and friends say about who she used to be, the one person she hasn’t heard enough from is Walker, the guy who saved her the night her car was knocked off that bridge into the bay below. Walker is the hardened boy who’s been keeping his distance—and the only person Olivia inexplicably feels herself with. With her feelings growing for Walker, tensions rising with Matt, and secrets she can’t help but feel are being kept from her, Olivia must find her place in a life she doesn’t remember living.

The Review: I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t know that Jessi Kirby had a new book coming out until the lovely people at Harper360 emailed me and so of course I jumped at the chance to read The Secret History of Us.

The Secret History of Us is a moving story about a young girl recovering after being in a car accident and dealing with the aftermath of losing her memories from the last four years and finding out who she really is.

I’ve read several stories before with characters that suffer from memory loss and while the story isn’t something new to me, I find I enjoy stories like this because I like to see how the author delivers the story they wish to tell. In this case, I found The Secret History of Us very enjoyable. I loved how the author handles the struggles the character faces and it was definitely eye opening to read about a character that loses so many years of her memories and to see how she deals with it.  The fact that she has to basically rediscover who she is felt very realistic. She was around family that would tell her what she did before and I understand the reasons why Olivia tried to be that person again but I liked it even more when she went with her own gut feelings and did the things people wouldn’t expect her to do.

I really liked all the characters, Olivia of course being my favourite. I did like all the secondary characters as well especially Walker however I do wish he had some more time in the spotlight. He’s introduced early on in the story but we don’t really start to get to know him until closer to the end. I guess I would have liked more.

In all, The Secret History of Us is a great contemporary read that tackles real life issues and gives you a taste of what it could be like for you if you were in Olivia’s situation. It’s also the perfect read for summer so if you haven’t added it to your TBR then I’d highly recommend it.

Thank you to Harper360 for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

{Review} P.S I Still Love You (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) by Jenny Han

Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter.
She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever.
When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

In this charming and heartfelt sequel to the New York Times bestseller To All the Boys I've Loved Before, we see first love through the eyes of the unforgettable Lara Jean.

Love is never easy, but maybe that’s part of what makes it so amazing.

The Review: PS I Still Love You is the second book in Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series and if you honestly haven’t read this series then I highly recommend adding it to your to-be-read pile because it’s amazing!

This is the second time I’ve read PS I Still Love You and it was just as good as the first time. With the release of the third book I wanted to refresh myself with the series and I’m really glad I did because there was so much information that I completely forgot. Not only that but it was great to familiarise myself with these fantastic characters once again.

After the events in To All Boys I’ve Loved Before you go into the book with hopes that Lara Jean and Peter are together and happy and while that might be true, there is one certain girl that is willing to disrupt the happiness that the loveable couple have found together. So while I was expecting some fluffy romance, I got a heart-breaking story that really pulled on my emotions and it was still fantastic to read because Han has a way of pulling you into the characters story and not letting you leave until you’ve finished it.

Now I knew from the synopsis that another one of Lara Jean’s boys would also play a role in this story and that was John Ambrose Maclaren. While Lara Jean and Peter are going through their relationship problems, John was really there for her. John is a great character. One that anyone could easily fall for. However my problem was he just wasn’t Peter. If John had come first then maybe things could have been different but for me, I am firmly and will always be a Peter fan.

I really did enjoy this book. It has a good mixture of happy, sad, funny and emotional times and the story develops enough for you to want to read more. I can’t wait to dive into the third and final book!

With power comes enemies. Lots of them.

Hunter Garrity just wants to be left alone. He's learned the hard way that his unusual abilities come at a price. And he can't seem to afford any allies.

He's up to his neck in hostiles. His grandfather, spoiling for a fight. The Merrick brothers, who think he ratted them out. Calla, the scheming psycho who wants to use him as bait.

Then there's Kate Sullivan, the new girl at school. She's not hostile. She's bold. Funny. Hot. But she's got an agenda, too.

With supposedly secret powers rippling to the surface everywhere around him, Hunter knows something ugly is about to go down. But finding out what means he'll have to find someone he can trust. . .

The Review: Spirit is book three in the Elemental series and unlike the rest of the series, this book isn’t about a Merrick brother but instead their friend/enemy Hunter Garrick. Hunter like the Merrick brothers has an affinity that he can control to his will, however he is the one of the rarest – the fifth element Spirit, and while I was definitely interested in learning more about the Spirit element, I have to say I wasn’t all that excited to get Hunter’s book so soon – especially seems I was more interested in reading about the brothers. And if I’m honest I wasn’t over keen on Hunter because of his actions from the first two books. However, once I started this book I have to admit it was pretty hard to put down and I quickly started to like Hunter more as a character than I actually thought I would.

Hunter is a hard character to like because you just never know where his actions are going to take him and also if you’re on Team Merrick then it’s hard to like Hunter because he’s pretty untrustworthy sometimes. His actions make him so and I was pleased he kind of redeems himself through-out the book. He actually has a really hard time throughout Spirit and I did really feel for him. He’s hurting and has no-one to turn to – not even Gabriel and I missed the friendship he had with him – even though they don’t admit it, they are friends and seeing them at war with each other only added to Hunter’s problems. He finds trust a big issue and while you can see that the Merrick brothers want to help him, Hunter does not and just finds more reasons to be at war with them.
Being Kate into the story was interesting and very unpredictable – that ending? Seriously? I loved and hated it. I wanted more for Hunter. He was already struggling with so much and then *SPOILER* they don’t even get a happy ending. I was heartbroken. I’m not a fan of those type of endings and even now I don’t see why it needed to happen, but overall the whole story really had me hooked so I still enjoyed it.
In all Spirit took me by surprise and in the end even though some events didn’t happen the way I would of liked, I still enjoyed the story and it was a good addition to the series.

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

The Review: As soon as I heard about Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones I pre-ordered it straight away. If I’m honest that’s not me at all. I very rarely pre-order debut books until I start hearing some hype from bloggers who received advanced copies, however I read the blurb of this story and just knew that I had to read this book.

Wintersong is about a young girl named Lisel who has to hide her musical talent from her family but yet there is one person who loves to hear Lisel play, someone from her past who she has tried to forget but that person can’t forget her – The Goblin King. Deep in the woods and underground The Goblin King lives and he will do anything to have Lisel – even if that means taking away one of the people she loves most, her sister. Lisel will do anything to get her sister back and away from the goblins and The Goblin King but that means she may have to sacrifice herself.

You know when you start reading a book and you just don’t want to put it down? That’s how I felt while reading Wintersong. It was impossible to put down and I fell in love with the story from the very start. The story is simply written so beautifully and it’s such a magical read that is mysterious and spell-binding. And the music aspect was such a beautiful touch that made me enjoy it all the more.

The characters were simply fantastic. They weren’t perfect and had their faults but no-one is perfect and so I forgave them when they made mistakes. I just loved the characters, every minute they were together was nail-biting and nerve-racking but so beautiful too. I loved that they could connect through music when they couldn’t or wouldn’t always put their feelings into words. It just made for a very beautiful read!

I hear the story is being compared to a Hades and Persephone re-telling or a Labyrinth re-telling which doesn’t bother me at all because this book could have been a re-telling of any kind and I still would have looked this book. It is its own book, no matter where the inspiration came from to write it, so before you read try and keep an open mind and I’m sure you’ll love it.

By the time I’d finished the book my emotions were all over the place. That ending? Talk about a cliff-hanger but I’m so glad the author is writing another book because I wouldn’t have been happy had that been the end of the story.

In all Wintersong is a fantastic read and dare I say my favourite read of 2017 so far!
Giveaway
Now because I loved this story so much, I have teamed up with Bookworm Candles and Crafts to provide you with a little giveaway. Once I finished this book I immediately went to Danielle and started plowing her with ideas for candles to make. In the end we decided on The Goblin Grove location candle.

The Goblin Grove is a key feature throughout the book and a fantastic location to get lost in. This candle smells like alder circle, woven music and sweet ripe fruit. This beautiful candle represents everything this magical book has to offer, from the circle of alder trees in The Goblin Grove, to the music being played by the characters and most importantly to that moment that Liesl’s sister eats the juicy ripe peaches that starts the whole story in motion!

This candle has been newly added to Bookworm Candles and Craft store and added to her Location candle range and today we are offering three winners a 2oz sample candle of The Goblin Grove. So if you loved this book or even if it’s new to you, then feel free to enter!  And it's international!

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally. Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can't.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick.

But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he's not doing it. And no one seems to believe him.

Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Because Layne has a few secrets of her own...

The Review: Spark is the second book in Brigid Kemmerer’s Elemental series and I’m so glad I decided to carry out with this series. It’s been too long since I have been able to dive into a series and not want to put it down.

Each book features a different character and this time it’s another Merrick brother – Gabriel. Gabriel has an affinity to Fire, he can start them but learning control is hard for him. Sometimes his element likes to play but other times it likes to take over and as everyone knows fire is catching so it’s a very dangerous thing to play with.

I really liked getting to know Gabriel more. In Storm he was very much the fun brother who doesn’t hold back what he wants to say, however as you read Spark you start to see that under his tough guy exterior he’s actually struggling with a lot issues – the loss of his parents and the guilt he feels over it, he feels stupid for not being able to pass math without the help of his twin brother Nick and also he actually feels pretty alone. He hasn’t got a lot of close friends nor has he got a girlfriend so when his brother’s start pairing off, he struggles with his loneliness and his guilt for his issues causes him to argue with everyone close to him. Then there is also the fact that someone is starting fires in the neighbourhood and Gabriel is suspect number one. Gabriel’s story is a sad one just because he’s dealing with so much but I still enjoyed every minute of his journey.

The bright spot in this story is Layne who does become Gabriel’s love interest. She is a great character to get to know but she is also dealing with her own issues which vary from parental problems, to having a deaf brother who is being bullied at school and then finally to Lanie being hurt from a young age and dealing with the after effects of that. The author tackles all of these issues very well and as a reader you can see why there are so many obstacles in the characters life – it’s for them to grow and to become stronger characters but it’s also eye opening to readers to some of the real day to day issues some people deal with and as I said, the author tackles this well and it honestly made for great reading.

I love the whole element aspect of the story. Being able to control either fire, water, air or earth has always been interesting to me and I’m enjoying exploring it with this story. I’m honestly not sure which brother or which element I like more! Hopefully I’ll be able to answer that by the end of the series.

As the series progresses you can see trouble brewing for the Merrick brothers and the people attached to them. The story is around someone starting local fires but there is a lot more to it. The Merrick brothers have to keep a low profile to not draw attention to themselves or they could be killed – so yeah, this is definitely one read you’ll burn straight through.
Now the big question for you readers – what element would you like to control?

Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys-- the ones she doesn't want. Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her.

Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water--just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They're powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life's at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who's hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming. . .

The Review: I read this book back in 2014 and since then it’s always been a book I’ve never forgotten. So I decided to re-read the first book with the intention of finishing the rest of the books in the series.

Exciting, dangerous and very intense, Storm is a fast paced read that brings a whole new meaning to elemental magic.

Our main character Becca doesn’t have many friends except her best friend and she shies away from other students because of the nasty rumours that have been spread about her around school. On night after leaving school, Becca comes across Chris Merrick fighting for his life in the car park. Becca does the only thing she can think of and that’s to help run Chris’s attackers off, however, after rescuing Chris, Becca is pulled into Chris’s dangerous world, especially when she finds out he’s connected to the elements and can control water. Becca’s life has never been as dangerous as it is now, and she needs to figure out who she can trust before it’s too late.

The brothers - Chris, Nick, Gabriel and Michael are completely fabulous! With each of them having a different element, it’s safe to say there is never a dull moment throughout this story. It’s captivating and spell-blinding to watch these super-hot guys experience with their super cool elemental magic. They bring a lot of exciting twists and turns throughout the story and it also makes it very unpredictable – in all, I loved the plot.

With Storm being Chris’s story, I really enjoyed getting to know him and watching his relationship with Becca grow. At times, it’s nearly non-existent that I honestly thought they would just remain friends, but the author focuses more on the story rather than the romance and I liked that. It gave the story a lot of suspense and intense scenes. Both Becca and Chris were really great to get to know. I liked Becca; she grew on me through-out the story, but Chris I liked instantly. I think because there was a lot of mystery surrounding him. And together, they were great!

At the moment, it’s pretty hard to pick a favourite brother. There’s definitely something about Nick that I like, so I’m intrigued to discover more in his story, but I’m also excited to read the other books in the series. But I have to say, I definitely enjoyed this story much more the second time around, especially knowing I have the next book ready and waiting.

Next to show you a product that Bookworm Candles and Craft are rebranding and that’s their wax melts! Now I know there is a lot of confusion when it comes to wax melts, people don’t know what they do or how they’re used. Wax melts are pieces of scented wax that you melt in a burner. The wax melts are placed on the top of part of your burner and a little tea light goes underneath to melt the wax. There you have it! Your home will be scented through-out. You can purchase wax burners from companies like Amazon, Argos and even some of your local shops.

So now you know a little bit about wax melts and their burners, here is the first new release from Bookworm Candles and Craft and it’s one of our favourite characters of the Throne of Glass series – Aelin!

These wax melts are inspired by the Queen of Terrasen herself and they smell like jasmine, lemon verbena and embers. Each piece of wax should last around a week but it’s completely depends on how strong you want the fragrance flowing through your home. You can burn two pieces at a time for a stronger scent if you like.

Each package comes with six wax melts and have a crochet band.

You can purchase it for £3.00 or you can buy 3 for £7.50. Bookworm Candles and Craft will be releasing more soon so keep your eyes peeled. They will be available to purchase from the store soon!
