Donna says:  Ahhh I have to disagree with Jess and say I prefer the UK cover. Although I do see Jess's point but I think the UK cover stands out so much more, it makes me want to pick up the book but the cover is so bright and fun. UK for me.

The Review: Struck follows the life of Mia Price a teenage girl who is addicted to being stuck by lightning. She has been struck countless times, which has left red lightening strike marks over her body but still, she craves more. When Los Angeles is hit by a massive earthquake which leaves everything in ruins, it is there where Mia runs into two cults – who both believe Mia is the key to saving everyone from the doomsday prophecies but Mia can’t help think can she really be the key when all she has done is get stuck by lightning?

I went into Stuck with very high expectations and I think they may have been too high because while I liked the story, I didn’t love it. The story is based around religious prophecies, the 7th seal, the bible, God and so on, and as an Atheist, I don’t believe in God, so honestly it was hard for me to buy into it this story. Now I understand there are people that do believe in God and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for me, I felt religion aspect in this story was just too much. From start to end people were preaching, following a fake prophet and quoting parts from the Bible and I just didn’t like it. Now while Jennifer Bosworth did a good job introducing a new story that was very unique, exciting and thrilling, I do feel like the religious aspect could have been toned down a bit and who knows maybe I would like it more, but because it was a such a huge part of this book, this is the reason I didn’t love this story.

The characters were fun to read about. Mia does make some silly mistakes and she seems to land her in even more trouble. She tends to let her feeling for her family over rule her, like trying to keep her brother out of trouble and I feel a lot of her problems could have been avoided if she’d just aired them out with her brother instead of trying to keep him in the dark. Same goes with Jeremy – he is very secretive and constantly tells Mia not to go to the Waste but never really tells her why. It was a little frustrating to start with but still if things didn’t work out that way…then there’d be no book.

What I did love was the relationship between Mia and Jeremy. I always enjoy a good romance and this really hit the spot for me. Their relationship was very secretive at the start but once they started opening up with each other, it was touching, heart-felt and really swoon-worthy and their moments together were really sweet. Honestly, this is why the book got a three star rating instead of a two.

Now, then ending of the book was concluded very well I thought but, I was told that it’s looking like this book is the first in a series, and because I felt everything was concluded so well, I’m just not sure where I can see the book going next. I guess only time will tell.

Overall, I believe Stuck will be a hit amongst the readers, so I do urge you to try it and see for yourself and honestly I’m glad I read it – even though it isn’t a favourite of mine.

The Review: I’ve been a huge fan of Lee Nichols’s Haunting Emma series since the start and I have to say, finishing this book – Surrender; which is the third and final book in the series, was a sad moment for me because, even though this book was so, so good I’m still not ready to leave these characters behind but of course, Lee Nichols’s ends it with a bang and it was PURE-AWESOME!

This time around we see Emma and the gang trying to deal with the aftermath after the battle at the Knell; the ghost-keepers headquarters in New York. Everyone is unsure of what to do next and people are more afraid then ever. But Emma is more determined then ever to banish Neos forever. To do that, she needs to allocate his ashes which are hidden in Thatcher Academy somewhere and she really needs the help from her friends more than ever but that’s easier said than done. Bennett’s parents arrive home and kick him out when they realise he is still addicted to a drug that enhances his powers and Emma’s friends are all wrapped up in their own problem. But Neos won’t wait forever….and soon the fight it bought to them. Can Emma defeat Neos once and for all? And can she save the one she loves the most before he destroys himself?

Surrender is a fantastic finale book!  Lee Nichols’s definitely left this series on a high note and I have to say it’s definitely my favourite out of all three books. From start to end, it’s fast paced, exciting and full of danger. And of course, the romance is hotter than EVER! And this is why I loved this story so much because we got to see Emma and Bennett really be a couple. Their scenes with each other was so sweet and beautiful and yes, they do have their up’s and down’s but it’s nothing they can’t overcome together.
I adore all the characters especially Emma, Bennett, Lukas and Harry but I’m glad to see they all go the ending they deserved. I have to say, even Bennett’s parents grew on me and I was glad we got to get to know Emma’s brother too.

Overall, Surrender did not disappoint at all and if you’re looking for a spooky ghost story, full of laughs and romance then this is the series for you. Highly recommended!

The Review: In this 2nd book in The Resistance Trilogy we find Gavin and Camille still in Paris a couple of weeks following the revelations with Arianna and together they get the resistances’ wheels in motion. They aren’t the only ones who want Amaranths’ queen -Samira gone and they come up with a plan of action which also brings Camille to the attention of a certain someone from Gavins’ past who brings out her insecurities. Never the less, they come up with a plan that sees them split into two groups or two waves as it were to gain freedom for Amaranth by killing Samira and hopefully freedom from their curse. Gavin and Camille are among the first wave to enter the haven in preparation for the next portal opening on the crescent moon when the others will bring the battle to the gates, what they don’t count on is that everything and everyone may not be as they seem and some harsh decisions and drastic actions are going to be needed if they want to make it out of there alive. But as secrets and lies are revealed and each side plays their hand, who will come out on top? Or has Gavin and Camille’s luck finally run out?

Now that’s what I’m talking about! This is a really good step up from book 1 (which I rated 3*s) and it’s great to see the progression of not only the characters but the plot too. In book one I didn’t really feel connected to Gavin & Camille and I wanted more from them emotionally and in their relationship and boy did we get it here. I was dragged into their relationship and felt everything they were going through – good and bad. There were sweet & wonderful times but also heart breaking times for them as they try to maintain a relationship whilst organising an army, trying to avoid the attention of the queen and awaiting the planned invasion. Their love though, really shone through in this and made me believe in them. Another character that got better for me was Audrey, I lost track of the amount of times I truly laughed out loud at her humour. She was hilarious and provided a nice lift to an otherwise serious situation and I really appreciate her for that, I only wish she had a bigger role, maybe some powers – yeah that would be awesome along with her wit.

As I said the plot/storyline progressed well too, once they had returned to Amaranth and I kept reading, I was always aware of the danger they were in. always thinking that with each page they were going to be found out or worse. I really wanted to hurt one of the characters which shows how much it affected me and I kept turning the pages even though I kept thinking something was going to go wrong. It really kept me on my toes with the twists and turns and just when you thought it was going one way, it went another so you didn’t know what was going to come next and the pacing was great too. I liked that we saw a bit more of the Hoodoo being used and hope we are going to see more of that, I also like the skeletons in the closet that burst from nowhere, leaving me open mouthed. 


The events in this book and the epilogue have really left me really wanting book 3 which is on my TBR list right now. So Ms Wade, if you can bump my opinion from a 3 star for book 1 and a 4 star for book 2 does that mean the final book is going to be a 5 star? I really hope so, the game was upped here and I liked it, it surprised me so please feel free to surprise me some more in the finale -The Tragedy of Knowledge – earmarked for October 2012.

Last year Aimee Carter left me astounded when I read her debut novel The Goddess Test and now Goddess Interrupted is here and she has done it yet again. Goddess Interrupted is a captivating, intriguing and magical read – one that I managed to devour in 24 hours and I’m dying for more.

Kate Winters has spent the last six months on summer vacation, away from Henry as per their arrangement. But now it’s time to go back and be crowned as Queen of the Underworld and be forever tied to Henry. There is nothing more in the world that Kate wants than to be with Henry but when Henry starts acting secretive and distant with her, she starts questioning everything she was once lead to believe.  Soon she finds out that Cronus – The King of the Titans, is trying to escape his prison and he is hell bent on killing the one’s Kate cares about most.  When Henry is kidnapped by Cronus, it’s down to Kate to try and rescue him but she needs help from the one person she never wanted to meet…..Persephone’s…..Henry’s ex wife. Can Kate and Henry overcome the obstacles of their relationship and can Kate keep all her loved ones safe?

Goddess Interrupted is absolutely beautiful read and I loved every minute of it. I started reading it and I honestly couldn’t put it down but I have to admit, I was a little disappointed at the start of it. After the ending in The Goddess Test, I was expecting Kate and Henry’s relationship to be completely different because they are in love with each other now. So admittedly, the first few chapters threw me because everything wasn’t all hearts and flowers between them but, what I got was something so much more. It was so raw, emotional and real – that it was so heartbreakingly good and it bought me to tears a few times. Kate and Henry’s relationship is really put through the tests during this book and I felt for both of their situations but I’m just glad they became a stronger couple for it. Their moments together at the end of the book really were a joy to read, I loved every minute of it and I think Aimee Carter did a fantastic job creating a couple that do have faults but are perfect for each other in every way.

This time around we get to know our favourite Gods all the more and I thought they all bought a level of mystery with them. Each and every one of them has two personalities; their human side and their Immortal side, and trying to unravel them was really fascinating. I especially loved getting to know Ava better and of course, Henry was the best to get to know more.

What I enjoyed about this book so much was how unpredictable it is. I honestly didn’t know what was going to come next and let me say, I am so shocked with the results….but in such a good way that I need the final book now. Honestly, the ending of the book is going to blow you’re mind and leave you speechless – yeah it’s that good!

Overall, Goddess Interrupted is just as good as The Goddess Test if not, even better! And I cannot wait to see what is next installed for us.

The Review: I absolutely adored Jus Accardo’s debut novel Touch, so when I was offered the chance to review her new novella Untouched, of course I jumped at the chance and honestly – I’m so glad I did because it doesn’t disappoint!

Untouched is a short story told from Kale’s point of view. Yes, you heard that right! It’s all about Kale. Anyway, in Touch we saw Kale escaping Denazen, meeting Dez and teaming up with other Sixes to try and take down Denazen. Now in Untouched he and Dez are trying to recruit a new Six while trying to have a bit of fun at the same time.  While Kale, Dez and the new Six head to a fun fair for the day, it is there they run into trouble….and it’s trouble with a capital T because Kale’s past comes back to haunt him and it’s someone he really fears. When Dez is captured, it’s Kale’s up to Kale to rescue her because he can’t lose her after just finding her, but can Kale save Dez from his past but most of all can he save her life?

It’s safe to say, I loved Kale before starting this book and if it’s possible, I love him even more now. I love how naïve he is, I love how sweet he is and of course, I love how protective he is over Dez. Getting inside Kale’s head was just PURE AMAZING! He’s so selfless and dedicated to stopping Denazen and from seeing things from his point of view, you can really see why he and Dez are such a good couple. They are both so similar but each of them has been sheltered and it has affected their lives but when there together, everything is forgotten. It’s just the two of them against the world and I love the relationship they have.

Even though this story is a short story, I still felt it was long enough to give us that Kale fix. If anything, it was longer than I expected but I’m not complaining because I loved it. Jus Accardo knows how to suck you into her captivating world from page one  and it really shows off her talent as an author, to be able to create any product – whether that be a full book or a novella and I seriously just want more.

Overall, Untouched is a must read for any fan of this series and I’d highly recommend it anyone who is looking for something a little different.

Jess's thoughts: Yep, this was a RAK and it's been on my shelf for ages. I'm not sure why I haven't picked it up yet. I love Fae stories and I've heard good things about this series, on and off. Some of them are good some not so good. Hopefully I'll get around to reading it soon. I have book 2 as well so I won't need to wait a long time. I love these covers as well, they are just gorgeous.

Donna's thoughts:  So, Zombies! I have to admit I've been wanting to read this book for a while but I'm still put off because it's about Zombies. I just haven't been able to find a Zombie book that has blown my away so I'm hoping this may be the one because, I really want to love them.
