The Blurb from Goodreads: Passion. Fate. Loyalty. Would you risk it all to change your destiny? The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought she’d be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world. But that’s exactly what happened. Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.

The Review: I’ll be honest by saying I hadn’t heard of this book before it was recommendation to me, so once I looked it up on Goodreads, wow, the blurb is amazing. This book honestly sounds to die for. But after reading it, I only liked it….I didn’t love it.

Tiger’s Curse is about a girl called Kelsey looking for part time work over the summer. The first job that comes up is to work at the circus that’s in town for a few weeks. Kelsey’s job includes helping with the beautiful white tiger. What Kelsey doesn’t expect is to become attached to the tiger which leads her to be offered a job travelling to India to help transport Ren “the Tiger” back home. As Kelsey’s journey unfolds, she soon realises there is more to this beautiful creature that meets the eye and she’s somehow involved in a 300 year old Indian curse.

Colleen Houck has definitely created a one of a kind book which is completely unique. I’ve never read anything to do with Indian mythology before so this was a whole new world for me. She’s definitely managed to captive India in its finest with her descriptions that makes me imagine what India is really like.

The plot concept is completely fascinating and I found myself being pulled into the lure of the Indian curse and all the exciting details that came along with it. But at the same time, I sometimes struggled with reading it because I felt there was some unnecessary information. I also found some of the names and words that came up quite difficult to pronounce. I found I spent more time trying to figure out how to pronounce a word correctly, only to struggle on the same word a few pages later. But maybe that is just me as I’ve never been one for foreign languages. The most difficult chapter for me was the prologue; admittedly I had to read it several times. Our characters Kelsey and Ren are likeable, if anything I think Kelsey is a bit naïve and stubborn but what characters aren’t? Ren is a deep and mysterious who again is likable but I didn’t think they were lovable.

Overall, Tiger’s Curse is an interesting take on Indian mythology, one I believe many will love. I didn’t love it as much as I hoped but will it stop me from reading the second book? No, I’d still pick it up but I just wouldn’t rush for it.

I've seen this around for quite a while. It sounds pretty good I've also never read a book on Idian mythology and I love when readers are taken to a new setting and culture, I really should pick this up! :)

Ooh, interesting! I didn't think this book was for me at first, but then I saw a bunch of great reviews and though I might give it a try. But after your review, I'm reconsidering a bit. I think I'll still read it, but probably from the library. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)
