For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.
<
Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source – a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same.

The Review: “Dude, he's Australian...not a pirate.”

<
I was extremely hesitant about whether I liked it. It turns out...it was just okay to me. A lot of people had raved about it, and I was anxious to read it. And when I finally read it, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Here's why: the big factor is Kiera, she's annoyed me to no end. She's stupid, naive and ironically... extremely thoughtless as to how her actions affected others around her. I couldn't like her, and she has absolutely no redeeming qualities what so ever.
<
Thoughtless goes on for a good 546 pages, it's 546 pages of Kiera moaning, Kiera bed hopping thinking it's going to be okay to juggle two guys. It's not right Kiera. You cheated on your boyfriend with his best friend. You deserve neither of the boys. I liked Kellan...a lot. Sure he was the one that Kiera cheated with but unlike Kiera Kellan has redeeming qualities, he tried to stop it, he even tried to leave but because Kiera is incredible SELFISH she wouldn't let him. In the end, I wanted Kiera to just end up unhappy and alone, and I hate it when I hate the protagonist.
<
The story in general was good, it had the potential to be great but when you can't stand the protagonist the book just seems endless and long...I slugged through it. I found myself liking the secondary characters a lot more that includes Kiera's boyfriend Denny. As I said the story was good it would have been better if Kiera hadn't been so infuriating. I would have enjoyed it a lot more I believe. My 3 stars are for Kellan, Denny and Griffin.
<
I guess this isn't much of a review as more of a rant. But Stephans does have a good way of story telling, the story was witty in places, I can't deny that Kiera and Kellan had chemistry, but I would have been much happier if this story remained as it was with Kiera ending up alone with neither of the boys. I do believe that this story would have worked better with alternate pov's, and I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it a lot more if that had been the case. I also believe the story was too long for what it should have been. It seemed to drag on for 200 extra pages that weren't needed at all. A lot of the story could have been wrapped up in just over 300 pages, 500+ pages of utter useless story is a complete downer.
<
Will I read the next one? Yes I will, I heard it's better and Kiera gets less infuriating (I doubt it), but I'm not rushing for it. Kiera annoyed me far too much to actually want to even consider getting inside her head again any time soon.
<
Overall, it wasn't a total disaster, but I just wish Kiera hadn't been such a thoughtless, selfish, I-want-my-cake-and-eat-it-too cry baby. I liked it enough to carry on with the series...one day.

So I take it that you really didn't like Kiera? It's never a good idea to hate the main character.

Lol Kiera sounds like a real barrel of laughs! I don't know if I could enjoy a book where I don't like the main character! But I am  hopeful that you would carry on the series one day, great review, Jess! :)

God, I love Kellan. He is amazing. In the sequel Kiera gets better, although not by much :)

I love S.C. Stephens because she is the only author who made me like her book even though I absolutely hated narrator - Kiera. Nice review by the way :)
