My Book Boyfriend (#6): Jace Wayland

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme, hosted by Missie at The Unread ReaderWhat is My Book Boyfriend you might ask.  Well it is a weekly meme where we talk about a literary crush including stats, a picture of what you imagine he looks like and some quotes from him that make you swoon.  If you are interested in participating please check out the My Book Boyfriend Introduction Page over at Missie's blog The Unread Reader.

So seen as I (Jess) am such a fictional man perv, Donna has let this be my weekly post. But I'm to let her know when I do Ash of the Iron Fey series. So this weeks My Book Boyfriend, I wanted to do someone who we all love, and who is currently in the lead for our Battle of the Sexes...so everyones faveourite Shadowhunter Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments.

Jace's Stats:
Status: He is a Shadowhunter, part nephilim and part human. Clary Fray's love interest.

Age: 17
Eyes: Gold
Hair: Blonde
Physical Description: He has a slim, muscular build, and is about 5"11. He is covered in thin, silver scars from the years of applying various magical runes.

(Actor-Alex Pettyfer)

"And now I’m looking at you,” he said, “and you’re asking me if I still want you, as if I could stop loving you. As if I would want to give up the thing that makes me stronger than anything else ever has. I never dared give much of myself to anyone before – bits of myself to the Lightwoods, to Isabelle and Alec, but it took years to do it – but, Clary, since the first time I saw you, I have belonged to you completely. I still do. If you want me."

"What's this?"
"That's a mango." Simon stared at Jace. Sometimes it really is like Shadowhunters were from an alien planet.
"I don't think I've seen one of those that wasn't already cut up," Jace mused. "I like mangoes."
Simon grabbed the mango and tossed it into the cart. "Great. What else do you like?"
Jace pondered for a moment. "Tomato soup," he said finally.
"Tomato soup? You want tomato soup and a mango for dinner?"
Jace shrugged. "I don't really care about food."

"I was born amazing."

What do you all think of Jace Wayland? Have you read The Mortal Instruments?

Thanks to Missie for hosting this great meme.

Tune in next Wednesday for another installment of My Book Boyfriend.

Donna's Teaser Tuesday: Tris and Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison

1) " I do believe you. Now that I have met you, I see the truth in your eyes. You are full of power and honour. This is what I meant when I said we are the same, you and I. We belong to the world of magic. We must return to Curvenal and  fulfill our destinies."

2) " In that moment he was amazingly handsome and powerful and brave. I loved him so much-almost enough to go with him. But not quiet "

Jessica's Teaser Tuesday:  The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

1)  "My name is Ashallyn'darkmyr Tallyn, third son of the Unseelie Court...Let it be known--from this day forth, I vow to protect Meghan Chase, daughter of the Summer King, with my sword, my honor, and my life. Her desires are mine. Her wishes are mine. Should even the world stand against her, my blade will be at her side. And should it fail to protect her, let my own existence be forfeit. This I swear, on my honor, my True Name, and my life. From this day on..." His voice went even softer, but I still heard it as though he whispered it into my ear. "I am yours."

2) "Good idea,” Puck echoed from the back of the cave. “Why don’t you take first watch, prince? You could actually be doing something that doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out with a spork.”

Ash’s lips curled in a smirk. “I would think you’re better suited to the task, Goodfellow,” he said without turning around. “After all, that’s what you’re best at isn’t it? Watching?”

“Oh, keep it up, ice-boy. You’re gonna have to sleep sometime."

US vs UK (#13)

Welcome to Book Passion for Life's 13th US vs UK book cover battle. We've seen this posted on a few other blogs, and thought we'd jump on the band wagon!

The idea of this battle is once a week we'll post 2 sets of books of our choice, one US cover and one UK cover, and we'll just give our opinion on which one we love the most. Which cover captures the story, which one would catch our eye if we saw it on the shelf in a shop. The US cover will be on the left, and the UK cover will be on the right.

The Scores so far are:
US: 3  UK: 4  Draw: 5

US vs UK Round 13

My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent

vs

Jess says:  This series has been on my TBR list for ages and I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. But to the covers, I really like the  UK cover more than the US. I just love the font, and the creepiness about it. It makes me want to pick it up. It just screams 'PICK ME!'

Donna says:  I've had this book on hold since the start of the new year because I read half and felt it started to drag. Since then I've heard so many good things about this series, I'm thinking of picking them up again. Now...the covers....I honestly don't think either of them are brilliant. There both pretty creepy. But I'm going with the UK. I think  the UK cover stands out a lot more, plus its true to what the story is about.

Which do you prefer?

Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

 vs

Jess Says: I've heard of this series, and have yet to read it as well. As for the covers, I like the US...only for the reason that the UK cover-the model-looks like Katie Price a UK Super Model who I can't stand, and I refuse to pick up a book that reminds me of her. So I give this to the US based on the fact that I don't like the model. Lol.

Donna Says:  I like both! Its a hard one but I think UK gets it for me. I love the purple in the cover however I don't like the women. Both covers are pretty dark but yeah UK again for me.

Which do you prefer?

The Blurb from Goodreads: Charlotte Rush would be the first to admit that her life is no rollercoaster ride. Her days are laced with ordinary and at times boring monotony. But with a heart that finds itself frequently broken she's happy to say that she's content. When her friends convince her to spend the night out at a club to let loose and maybe even find a guy, she finally admits that her life might be missing something. No sooner does she let go of her inhibitions does she find herself waking up in a dark hotel room in the presence of Joel, a man who carries mystery in his eyes and familiarity in his smile. Against reason Charlotte decides to trust him based solely on one thing. Somehow, she is sure that she knows him.

In a race against time to find answers and to solve the crime committed against her Charlotte finds herself falling for him. However, with nothing but mystery surrounding him she can't even be sure that he's the hero at all. While knowing all of the right things to say he still manages to tell her nothing. As a battle is waged over the innocence of her cryptic stranger, Charlotte discovers that much greater danger awaits her. And the mysteries behind who and what Joel is will lead Charlotte to discover that heaven and earth are not so far apart.

The Review:
<
"The longer I looked into his eyes the more I felt that he was leading me down a road that I was determined not to follow."

***Possible Spoilers! ***

3.5 Rating - I’d wanted to read this book for a while after seeing a few good reviews around so I was more than thrilled to receive it for review and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint.

This story follows Charlotte Rush, a college student who lives with her two best friends and doesn’t trust men. On a night out, Charlotte is drugged in a night club but she is rescued by a mysterious stranger named Joel. As Charlotte tries to get to know Joel better, she soon realises that he’s hiding many secrets from her, secrets that are highly dangerous. But for Charlotte, even though she doesn’t have all the answers about Joel, she can’t stop herself falling for him.

Volition is a captivating and mysterious story and when I say mysterious I mean it, lol. When I started reading this book, all I knew about it was what I’d read on Goodreads. If you take a look at it, it’s a big blurb but it doesn’t really give you any indication as to what the story is actually about. Well…….let me tell you this…..it’s about Angels. Yep, I said it….Angels! I didn’t even think this book was supernatural so I was more than a little shocked to find out it was. Nonetheless, Shawn Maraval has written an interesting, exciting and lovable story, one that is full of suspense, mystery and totally compelling.

The story starts off quiet slowly but although it’s slow, I felt it’s was at a good pace in order to get to know the characters. Charlotte is a well -developed character who is totally lovable and Joel…..well, let’s just say he’s wow! Straight away you can feel the undeniable attraction between the two and the suspense of their relationship is amazing, it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

The story itself was really interesting; I felt it slightly slowed down in the middle but only to pick straight back up again towards the end. I enjoyed the other added story lines with Charlotte’s parents and her battle the night club owner. But it’s that cliff-hanger at the end…. It’s definitely one that will leave you shocked.

Overall, as a reader you can tell a lot of hard work has gone into this story and I for one think Shawn deserves a round of applause. So if you’re looking for something new and fresh to read this summer, this is the book for you.

Jace Quotes:
"There is no pretending," Jace said with absolute clarity. "I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I'll love you then."

"Just because you call an electric eel a rubber duck doesn't make it a rubber duck, does it? And God help the poor bastard who decides they want to take a bath with the duckie. "

"Do you remember back at the hotel when you promised that if we lived, you’d get dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and give me a sponge bath?" asked Jace.
"It was Simon who promised you the sponge bath."
"As soon as I’m back on my feet, handsome," said Simon.
"I knew we should have left you a rat."

Patch Quotes:
"All this time I've hated myself for it. I thought I'd given it up for nothing. But if I hadn't fallen, I wouldn't have met you."

"If you can't feel, why did you kiss me?"
Patch traced a finger along my collarbone, then headed south stopping at my heart. I felt it pounding through my skin. "Because I feel it here, in my heart," he said quietly."

"Call me Patch. I mean it. Call me."

"Being with you never felt wrong. It's the one thing I did right. You're the one thing I did right."

Okay everyone! There's all the details on our men this week. Here's the voting poll...so time to cast your votes! Winner will be announced once the 5 days of voting is up! Have fun :)
