US vs UK (#26)

Welcome to Book Passion for Life's 26th US vs UK book cover battle. We've seen this posted on a few other blogs, and thought we'd jump on the band wagon!

The idea of this battle is once a week we'll post 2 sets of books of our choice, one US cover and one UK cover, and we'll just give our opinion on which one we love the most. Which cover captures the story, which one would catch our eye if we saw it on the shelf in a shop. The US cover will be on the left, and the UK cover will be on the right.

The Scores so far are:
US: 6  UK: 11 Draw: 9

US vs UK Round 26

Hey guys, it's just me Jess today. Donna is a little busy today but I wanted to post this anyway.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

 vs

Jess says: Ahhh this is an easy one for me. This is the first time I'm seeing the US cover and I LOVE it! I definitely prefer it to the UK cover. The UK cover really creeps me out. I love everything about the US cover, the colour, the image of Jack in the background (he scares the living crap out of me). It's just a lot more in keeping with the Jack the Ripper theme...so, yeah, definitely the US for me.

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

 vs

Jess says: Again this is an easy one for me. I'm going with the UK this time. I like the US one well enough that I would buy it. But the UK one just captures something more. I like that it's just the sky and the font is beautiful. Definitely the UK for me.

Which do you prefer?

I definitely love the US version of The Name Of The Star. It's the one we got here in Oz and I think it's stunning. It has that "spooky" feel and look.

Plus, the model on the UK one reminds me of Vanessa Hugens. Don't know if I'm the only one, hmmm.....

I think I prefer the UK version of The Name of the Star and the US version of The Sky is Everywhere :)

I love both covers of The Name of the Star, but my first choice would be the US cover. It's lovely.

As for The Sky is Everywhere . . . definitely the UK version. I don't like the other version. Doesn't fit in with the story.

Uk for both. I think the US edition of name of the star looks like a bad photoshop image. I didn't like the sky is everywhere but I like the cover.

I actually prefer the UK version of Name of the Star - I find girls lying on the ground to be fairly dull! The UK version on the The Sky is Everywhere is best though. :)

UK and then US for me :)

I really like the UK cover of Name of the star, I didn't think it was creepy but I can see where you are coming from.

I was going to compare The Name of the Star covers on my blog! But I didn't have much of interest to say; I like them both.

I totally agree with both of your assesments; I especially LOVE the US cover of The name of the star. It looks very intriguing!

Well today there is no ambiguity for me. I definitely like the US on both, which is unusual for me because I more often prefer the UK. Thanks for sharing today.

I liked the US of The Name more for a while but now I actually prefer the UK one. I think it's good that it's creepy. I think the overlay on the US one is what bothers me.

I like the UK The Sky is Everywhere too.
