The Blurb from Goodreads: Last year, Pierce died - just for a moment. And when she was in the space between life and death, she met John: tall dark and terrifying, it’s his job to usher souls from one realm to the next. There’s a fierce attraction between them, but Pierce knows that if she allows herself to fall for John she will be doomed to a life of shadows and loneliness in the underworld. But now things are getting dangerous for her, and her only hope is to do exactly what John says . . .

The Review: 2.5 - This was my first book by author Meg Cabot. I’ve heard so many great things about her work and so I was very excited to start ‘Abandon’. After reading the book though, I can’t help think I missed something….I just didn’t enjoy this book as much as everyone else.

Pierce, our main character is really likable. She’s been through a lot because of how she died and she actually still struggles with it. John is the love interest for Pierce and the story centres around how John saved Pierce but with saving her, come unexpected consequence. Consequence’s Pierce isn’t sure she’s ready for. Now I have to say, I loved the chemistry between these two characters and I enjoyed how they fought their attraction for one another but I just wish there was a bit more interaction with these characters together. I wanted to find out more about the souls and fury’s rather than the story involving high school.

The story goes back and forth from present to past and as much as I enjoyed finding out our characters past, I couldn’t help finding parts confusing. This is mainly due to Pierce, because while talking about something, she will start thinking of something in the past, so this makes the story pretty jumpy. I didn’t like how it jumped back and forth and I think I would of much rather of read a prequel before this that told us everything that has happened.

Despite all this, the ending of the book left me with some hope because the story picked up a lot towards the end. It has left me intrigued to find out more so I will be picking up the next book.

Thank you to Macmilliam for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Yep that's how I felt about this book - just passable. I've read Meg Cabot before but only her brilliantly funny contemporary romances, this one just lacks the same spark.

I'm glad to see there was enough that was likable that you'll be picking up the next book. Barely redeemable?

I love Meg Cabot, and I really want to read this one. I've been putting it off because I've read so many mixed reviews. :/ I think I will put it off a while longer. lol Thanks for the review!

Don't let this book form your opinion on Meg Cabot - I love her books, but this one wasn't that good. Neither was Insatiable, nor Runaway (her last few books out). I would try The Mediator series, or the Missing series. I love those :D

Yeah, I wasn't overly impressed by this one either. If you want a really great Meg Cabot book, try The Princess Diaries or Avalon High or All American Girl. :)

Yeah, the thing about Meg Cabot is that she's so prolific, even if she writes a book that's just OK, she's got 10 more out that are very good indeed. Don't let this put you off; I concur that you should try her earlier books.

I read this book. I borrowed it from the library and then, I won it from Ms. Cabot. I was her 100,000 Facebook fan. I'm not a huge fan of Ms. Cabot's heroines. Most of them are those girls that pretend to be strong, but at the same time, they're weepy and breakable and fake. And a little crazy. I read Underworld too. It was WORSE. Trust me. I gave this book three stars, for the potential, and Underworld two. It had some plot to it, but I hated how pierce used John left and right. So, in comparison, Abandon seemed pretty good. But, thanks for the review!!!!! :)
