Kiora is rapidly learning that evil and lies come in shades of black and white and swirling greys, but nothing could have prepared her for the shock of leaving Meros.
Kiora and her protector Emane step through the pass into a world they never knew existed but were always meant to save, only to find it far worse than they could have ever imagined. Good has been forced into hiding for its own survival, while the rest of the land bows to the Shadow, a force that pushes any remaining thoughts of Dralazar from Kiora’s mind. This land is full of new creatures, each more dangerous than the last. Her visions have taken on a deadly twist, and magic, or what comes of it, was never so real. And then there is Alcander: a Tavean, their guide, and an entirely different kind of trouble.

The Review: Wings of Tavea is an equally stunning sequel to Wings of Arian. I adore the world the author has created, the characters, the species, the creatures, the places, the prophecy – just everything! The synopsis says it all as Kiora, Emane & Drustan head through the gates to fulfil the prophecy of the Solus but upon arrival, they find that the damage that has been done since the gates were sealed is immense. No longer the world that Drustan remembers, they must navigate through the unfamiliar surroundings in search of Lomay, the seer of the prophecies, hoping he will know where their future lies….. but things aren’t always straight forward as they encounter creatures  who don’t always mean well and realise just what a hostile environment is awaiting them. Enter Alcander, a Tavean native with some secrets of his own who must guide our threesome through the hostile area – he’s arrogant and does nothing but heap disdain on them…. So why does Kiora feel so connected to him? Only time will tell as the Solus is put through more trials that she might just not be able to cope with especially when she is faced with many life or death decisions, she needs to learn her magic fast again as Dralazar becomes the least of her worries.

As I said, I adore this series – Kiora is a great character and I think I like her so much because she doesn’t know it all - she hasn’t got any idea of what she is expected to do, how she is meant to achieve it, anything – all she knows is that she is the Solus and people are relying on her to save them and she will try her hardest, with everything she has, to do the right thing for them. She’s selfless, she is the epitome of brave and a very admirable character. In book one, I loved the romance between her and Emane – such a sweet slow burning thing that kindled over time until they were in love, they were perfect for each other but then we get Alcander and to be honest – I’m torn. Whilst I love Emane, he has his limitations and he relies on Kiora to protect him just as much as he protects Kiora but Alcander is everything Emane should be for her and she feels connected to him…. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles but I did appreciate this and the fact that they clashed – a lot! Alcander seems a lot like what Emane was in book one – arrogant, cocky and thinks he knows it all – but that’s what endears him to the reader.

The storyline was an excellent progression, book one left off where they were headed through the gates and that’s where we picked straight up. I was amazed by the world & creatures in book one and that definitely continues in this – I love this genre for that, the ability of an author to create these fantasy worlds and everything that inhabits them just astounds me and I wished I had that type of imagination, the type Devri Walls has to create this world from nothing and to make it so believable, it would be visually stunning to see & it’s a shame the books don’t come with illustrations. I like how the danger takes on a different turn and even though Dralazar follows, he becomes the lesser of the danger she now has to face. I always thought Kiora was to be the saviour of Meros but once things get rolling in this book, you will see the work that lies ahead of her. It brings the history of the world as a whole to the forefront so that you’re getting a two for one story as events in the past influence the events yet to happen. This is what I love about books with prophecies, I love reading of them unravelling and I like how it’s done in this, through Kiora as we get her glimpses into the past. I like the idea of what she has to face in order to save everyone, I like who she has to face and the mystery surrounding the who & why of it. I enjoyed the romance in it and im also curious as to what the relationship dynamics will be like following the events in this because Kiora is forced to do something drastic which leaves me wondering how it will changes things. As I mentioned before, I love how Kiora is so unassuming, she still doesn’t see herself as a saviour - but of course she still hasn’t fulfilled the prophecy – you can feel it though when reading, she still has so much more to give, so much to discover about herself, more magic to learn and I have faith in her, I’m routing for her and can’t wait for the final book….. bring on ‘The Shadow’.
