Ava is third generation of The Broken kind who reside on a planet called Poseidon. The Broken share this planet with an ancient race known as the Minoans. The Broken are a breed of humans who evolved from a program that was constructed to save human kind from harsh conditions back on Earth. But Ava knows much more, and feels much more than she is allowed to. When she starts questioning her origins and the destruction of Earth, things go horribly wrong for her. She is saved by a Minoan boy from an attempted kidnapping on her life – the perpetrators are evil Zulus and their dark ancient magic. Humans and Minoans are forbidden to interact with each other, and as she is taken back to their village she finds out why – they know of her, her kind and her destiny to save a dying race. Ava must rid them from the Council’s ruling and free the galaxy of The Shadow. Her destiny is to rise above the fall, because within her soul is the key to an archaic weapon that has been missing in the mix of a genetic code since the time of the ancients. As the prophecy unfolds she learns of her bloodline – a bloodline that makes her less human than she could ever have imagined. She alone has the power to destroy or save, but the mind-shift is a horrible thing. Ava will become what she hates to save the ones she loves. Beaten, poisoned, possessed and betrayed by her own emotions, she has no choice but to rise above it all… for that is her Destiny.

The Review: The Broken Destiny is a book set in a dystopian world, filled with different races, mystery, magic and prophecy… I don’t really feel I can add to the synopsis because it pretty much said it all so I’m going to go straight onto my thoughts…

Likes:
I like the set up of the world with the different races – they were all segregated, which wasn’t too good but it sets up the whole ‘forbidden’ friends thing that adds an ounce of rebellion and danger when people decide to intermingle.
I like their histories and how they all came to be where they are, I feel like there is still a lot more information to come but it gives food for thought and I have a feeling that nothing is as straight forward as it seems.
I like what each race maybe capable of, there are instances where we find that some people can do certain things, read minds, perform magic, move at a higher speed… again I feel like this is just being touched upon and more is to come, especially for Ava who seems to have a lot of untapped potential.
Of course I love the prophecy part, I love to see them play out – I feel like this again is just coming about and that a lot is still being kept from Ava so she still doesn’t know the full extent of what is in store for her.
I like the characters, Ava, Maya & Anaya especially; they have a lot of potential. I even liked the love triangle - We have the mysterious guy, who she hasn’t really caught a glimpse of but makes her feel like she is connected to him and the brutish, stand offish guy who seems permanently angry at her but who sends her pulse racing - but I also had a problem with that which I will mention below.
I like the twists and turns throughout where you are never really sure who to trust and I was suspicious of everyone.

Dislikes:
It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of dystopian novels, it’s a personal choice and opinion. They tend to have slower pacing that doesn’t hold my interest too well, whereas I prefer faster pacing with lots of action to keep my mind busy.
For all I liked the characters, I felt that they didn’t really have a great deal of depth to them.. I wasn’t emotionally involved in them and found that I wasn’t really bothered what happened to them, I was beginning to, with Ava towards the ending but I wished I had that from the beginning.
With the love triangle – I don’t usually like these, I hate infidelity in books but this had potential in the beginning, but it turned into insta-love and this is a problem a lot of books are displaying lately and I don’t like it. One minute Ava has seen one guy and she wants to be with him, the next she sees the other and dismisses the previous guy and professes her love for him! She hasn’t even met him, she doesn’t even know what he looks like but she loves him….. yeah, it’s not right and not realistic – it wasn’t even like there was some fated/soul mate thing going on where it is acceptable but this is just my personal opinion.

All in all though- it was a good read, quite an interesting story but very much a ‘getting to know you and your world’ book which has potential to get better as the series progresses.

Instant love and love triangles are two of my pet hates, but the story does sound interesting enough. Great review!
