The burden of Dave’s girlfriend’s death pushes Brandi, the Seraph of Love, to abduct David Howels in hopes of protecting Dave from his murderous father. Will Brandi be able to show Dave that all in life is not lost in death? Twists and turns abound as Brandi discovers her own shocking revelation—that Dave has been her soul mate all along.

Separating Dave and herself from their allies on the threshold of the apocalypse, Brandi turns to an old friend for help—a witch—to aid her in her quest to prepare Dave to face his worst fears and her own. Filled with curses, and secrets that threaten to destroy everything, Brandi must find forgiveness from within before she can find love. In the past, healing a broken heart would’ve been easy, but now faced with the task of healing Dave’s broken heart while not exposing her own, Brandi learns why love is truly the greatest gift of all.

The Review: Black Atonement is the third book in the ‘Vulcan Legacies’ series and this time it took on a different feel as we focus on only one pair of characters.
As the title will suggest - someone has to atone for their sins – and I can think of no one better in this this series to find redemption than Brandi our resident b*tch. Throughout the series we have heard all about her exploits, she was responsible for a lot of hurt and to be honest, I don’t know if I thought she could be a good person but low and behold…. We’re about to see it for real. At the end of book 2 there were some major losses for the good guys and non more so than Daves - who lost his soul mate Lucy at the hands of Ragnor, his father. Dave would have died had it not been for Brandi breaking the rules and resurrecting him and by doing that she discovered that she has found her soul mate but Brandi didn’t believe she was worthy of that gift so the focus of this story is that she will make everything right for Dave in the only way she knows how and that is by aiding him in going into the void to snatch his sister back from Ragnor’s clutches and getting revenge for the loss of his soul mate. Before they can do that though, they must train at the hands of the mysterious Abrahim for the perils that await in the void, where they will be forced to face their own worst nightmares.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a change to have the focus only being on the two characters when we would normally have a lot more and I did miss the others especially with Ally’s cliffhanger ending that had all of my attention. I do realise that this book needed to happen though and it goes a long way into changing my opinion of Brandi. In this we see most of her dirty laundry aired and how she really felt about events that stemmed from her actions and it’s definitely an eye opener because Brandi is indeed full of remorse and also as the Seraph of love that she doesn’t really think she is worthy of love. I liked the journey she went on throughout this because it challenged her in a way that I don’t think she has faced before, she needed to redeem herself to become a better person and by gaining her soul mate in Dave, she had reason to try even more than before. I liked that she had her chance at love and that Dave was given a second chance because it was heartbreaking to see what happened to him and when Brandi saved him, it was telling that it would make a massive connection between them – why she felt the need to save him may also be down to fate too.
Most of the story is about Brandi’s inner turmoil and training to get Jessica back which in itself is good but what I love about these books is the action and we get that later on in the story which as always - is awesome. It’s quite a short story but packed with content as Brandi not only atones but trains, falls in love, attends a ball and travels to the gates of hell in a death defying rescue mission where Brandi will really show how far she will go for love. This was a nice instalment to the series but I’m looking forward to having the gang back together again.

4.5 flowers!

According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

The Review: Super cute and adorable, The Fine Art of Pretending is a read that will capture your heart and leave you wanting more from Rachel Harris.

Alyssa ‘Aly’ Reed has always been the friend to all the guys at Fairfield Academy. She’s never the one who is asked out on dates or has the boys swooning over her and she believes that’s down to her tom boy style. She loves sports, she’s competitive and she never wears make up. But that’s about to change. Aly is determined that for her senior year that she will be the girl all the boys want by changing her style from tomboy to girly and she’s set her sights on the hottest guy at school, Justin. The problem is Aly believes she needs to be noticed and this is where her best friend, Brandon Taylor comes in when she convinces him to be her pretend boyfriend. But, as her and Brandon start their fake relationship it soon becomes harder to work out what’s real or not.

This was the first book I’ve read by author Rachel Harris and I can now officially say I want more from her. It’s impossible not to see her other work around, so it’s definitely something I’m going to be checking out while I wait for more from the The Fine Art of Pretending series.

The Fine Art of Pretending was just the type of read I was looking for. I was reading a New Adult story and wasn’t really in the mood so I’m glad I had this book ready and waiting for me because it really was a fantastic read! I loved how the story was so realistic to so many teenagers nowadays because of how many teenagers try to change who they are to fit in better or in this case to stand out more. The deeper message of the story is, you are who you are, don’t change yourself unless it makes you happy.

The characters of the story are just great. Aly and Brandon have such a deep connection that you can’t help root from them from the start. Even though they have their up’s and down’s during the story, I could completely sympathize with both of them. With Aly making the biggest change and going through a lot to finally discover who she is, I felt a deeper connection to her. But with Brandon’s point of view come different issues and for that I loved him too.

In all, The Fine Art of Pretending is a lovable YA contemporary read that will have you swooning all the way through. Very enjoyable and simply a fantastic summer read!

{Review} Beneath Scarlett Valley (Scarlett Valley #1) by Kerr-Ann Dempster

Death or Immortality … Cassidy chose death. Cassidy Daniels hates being a Furor. First, there is the hellish rage that storms through her veins, urging her to kill. Then there is the gnawing guilt, the nightmares, and the pretense. Unfortunately, her sister wants to be immortal. To do so, she needs Cassidy's help to find the Source, an ancient pool hidden beneath Scarlett Valley. When they arrive in Scarlett, Cassidy intends to find the Source and get out, but then she meets Sebastian. Everything about him makes her rethink her choice. There is just one problem. The choice between death and immortality is no longer Cassidy's to make. There are pretenders everywhere, with dark pasts and even darker plans.

The Review: Beneath Scarlett Valley is an intriguing book and very easy to read and get into.
We meet Cassidy Daniels and her sister Harper as they arrive at Scarlett Valley in search of ‘the Source’. Both Cassidy and Harper are Furors or rage demons -as the myths say- who constantly battle the internal rage and the need to kill. Their parents had become immortal by drinking from ‘the Source’ and had supposedly left clues for their daughters to achieve immortality to so that is all that Harper is interested in…. find the source and become immortal….. but Cassidy doesn’t want that, she wants to die because she doesn’t like what she is but she agrees to help Harper. She starts to rethink her decision however when she meets the schools swimming star – Sebastian – and begins to fall for him but could she ever get a happy ever after? She also finds that there are a few people who aren’t exactly who they’re meant to be and she needs to find out what everyone is up to because Furors don’t really have friends…. So who to trust?
So, as I said, this book was very intriguing and moreish. I liked the set up of the girls being sisters and rage demons, they were both very hot tempered and I thought that got across their rage problem very well. I liked that they were on a sort of quest, like looking for the fountain of youth but in this case ‘the Source’ that when drunk from, will give the drinker immortality and I liked that both Cass and Harper were on opposite sides of the fence about using it because it gave us a view for both for and against using it. A lot of Scarlett Valley’s history is tied to the Furor and I thought that definitely added to the story, we get some folklore that everyone believes is false – but is it? And we also find that the Furor aren’t the only supernatural fish in the pond giving us a glimpse of an enemy and a long ago feud that moulded what happened to both sides. There is also a bit of a side thread of story about missing teens that ties humans into the equation too, especially Sebastian.
I thought all of the characters were likable, there were a few instances when Cass & Harper came across as spoilt b*tches that irritated me a bit but I suppose that could be classed as the mannerisms of a rage demon. I liked Cass and Sebastian’s love connection, they fit well and got along great, it was nice to see her struggle to keep her demon in check more as if she was trying to be the better person and overcome her basic instincts.
The story culminated into a big ending where there are some major reveals and some massive consequences and I’m very curious to see where it’s headed now – this was a good read though and I’ll be looking out for book 2.

Thank you to Kerr-Ann Dempster for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

It’s been almost a year since eighteen-year-old Ella Rodriguez was in a car accident that left her crippled, scarred, and without a mother. After a very difficult recovery, she’s been uprooted across the country and forced into the custody of a father that abandoned her when she was a young child. If Ella wants to escape her father’s home and her awful new stepfamily, she must convince her doctors that she’s capable, both physically and emotionally, of living on her own. The problem is, she’s not ready yet. The only way she can think of to start healing is by reconnecting with the one person left in the world who’s ever meant anything to her—her anonymous Internet best friend, Cinder.
…
Hollywood sensation Brian Oliver has a reputation for being trouble. There’s major buzz around his performance in his upcoming film The Druid Prince, but his management team says he won’t make the transition from teen heartthrob to serious A-list actor unless he can prove he’s left his wild days behind and become a mature adult. In order to douse the flames on Brian’s bad-boy reputation, his management stages a fake engagement for him to his co-star Kaylee. Brian isn’t thrilled with the arrangement—or his fake fiancée—but decides he’ll suffer through it if it means he’ll get an Oscar nomination. Then a surprise email from an old Internet friend changes everything.

The Review: Kelly Oram is back with another smashing story with Cinder & Ella and I'm so glad she decided to try her hand at a fairytale re-telling but new adult style!

I won't re-cap the blurb for you because fairy telling stories are pretty much a given, what I will tell you is that even though we've all read the story of Cinderella, Kelly Oram definitely puts her own spin on the story and so Cinder & Ella becomes an unforgettable read. I loved it.

From the moment I started the story, I just knew I was going to love it. It's loveable and touching, and yes emotional but it's a story that you can root for and the banter from the characters is simply full of laugh out loud moments.

Cinder & Ella are fantastic characters and for me, I didn't think a couple could top Avery and Grayson from The Avery Shaw Experiments. And while they are still my favourite, Cinder & Ella come in a close second. I adored the connection they had and the message I felt that came across was that internet people can become a very real part of your life and I really connected with that part of the story.

In all, Cinder & Ella is a fantastic read. It's light, cute but also steamy with that added emotional touch. A perfect job well done by Kelly Oram!

Thank you to Kelly Oram for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you so much for letting me stop by today to talk about my new release! Cinder & Ella is a Hollywood-style adaptation of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. In the book, Brian and Ella share a passion for all things reading and fantasy. Ella has a book and movie review blog, and “met” Brian the day he wrote her an email about a post she’d written on his favorite book series. While they agreed that The Cinder Chronicles was the best set of books ever to be penned, and that the author was a genius,  that was pretty much where their mutual understanding stopped. Brian’s bold letter about Ella’s post, and Ella’s heated reply, sparked a strong Internet friendship that carried them both through some difficult times.

Excerpt from the book:
“I met Ella through her blog over three years ago, after I came across a post she’d written about my favorite book series.” He flashed the audience a devastating smile. “You guys might have heard of it—The Cinder Chronicles by L.P. Morgan.”
Cheers erupted, and after the noise died down Brian continued on. “She had this insane theory that Prince Cinder should have chosen Ellamara instead of Princess Ratana, which of course I absolutely had to argue with. I wrote a very nice and polite Letter To The Editor explaining how completely misguided her theory was.”
Brian chuckled, but I scoffed. “Nice and polite? He called me a pig-headed, naïve feminist romanticist!”
Everyone in the room laughed, and even I had to smile because a secretive smirk crept over Brian’s face. No doubt he was thinking about the exact same thing I was.
“When she wrote me back, it was love at first fight.”

For today’s blog tour stop, I thought it would be fun to share with you guys, the actual letter that Brian wrote to Ella, which you won’t find in the book. Enjoy!

Brian’s Letter To The Editor

Subject: Words of wisdom…?

More like the absurd ramblings of a pig-headed, naïve, feminist romanticist. As much as I respect your love for the greatest book series of all time, I simply cannot let your backwards ideas stand without argument. Ella, the real hero of The Cinder Chronicles? In what reality? Was Obi-Wan the hero of Star Wars? Or Mr. Miyagi the hero of Karate Kid?  I don’t think so. If Ellamara were the hero of the story, they’d have to change the title of The Druid Prince to The Boring Book About That Weird Chick No One Cares About.

And you think Cinder should have chosen her over Princess Ratana? ARE YOU CRAZY? Ellamara was a too-good-for-everyone, cryptic-just-to-be-difficult man-hater. All she ever did was give a bunch of vague, unhelpful advice and constantly harp on Cinder and try to change him. So typical of a woman. And she was way too stubborn—always thought she knew best, and always had to be right about everything. (Kind of reminds me of someone…)

Ratana was so much better for Cinder. I mean, come on. She was as fierce a warrior as he was. She was always up for an adventure, supported Cinder when he had risky ideas, and believed in him when no one else did. Plus, she was a princess. She understood the kinds of responsibilities Cinder had as the leader of his people. She was raised to be a queen. She could help Cinder run the kingdom after he took the throne. If Cinder had chosen Ella, it would have ruined the book.

I hate to say it but, as entertaining as your blog post was, it sounded a bit defensive. Are you sure you didn’t just hate the fact that Cinder chose the beautiful, fun, popular, rich chick instead of the quiet, shy outcast? Hit a little too close to home maybe? You know, they say our favorite characters are often the ones we can most relate to. Hence the reason Cinder is my favorite character ever written. He’s awesome. He’s impulsive and passionate. I’m impulsive and passionate. He’s under a lot of pressure. I’m under a lot of pressure. I’m awesome. He’s good looking. I’m good looking… You see what I’m saying?

You’re probably just like Ellamara, aren’t you? Only you’re much more capable of stringing together coherent thoughts. I bet you’re shy and awkward in real life, but you come alive online. You should stop hiding behind your blog. I’ve read a few of your posts. You’re funny, and though your opinions are severely misguided, you show a great amount of intelligence in your writing. Your wit and sarcasm are totally awesome. You’re pretty, too. I mean, the braces are a little unfortunate (been there, done that, hated it), but you still have a beautiful smile and your eyes are stunning. I bet if you borrowed a little of Cinder’s confidence you’d have the guys flocking to you like crazy.

From one die-hard fan to another, I sincerely hope this letter will help you realize how wrong you are, and that the book is absolutely perfect the way it is. But considering how obstinate you seem, it’s more likely we’ll have to agree to disagree. Still, your blog is pretty cool. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,
Your newest follower,
Cinder458

Grant Carter did everything in his power to convince Harlow Manning that he was a good guy. More than a smooth-talker and someone she could trust. He had to overcome his reputation as a playboy, and his history with Harlow's half-sister, Nan, a woman with a reputation of her own.

Harlow had taken the chance, falling hard and fast for the guy who thrilled her with his all-consuming desire. After a lifetime of avoiding bad boys like Grant, she had opened herself to the possibilities of love...

But a life-changing secret has torn them apart, and now Grant and Harlow must decide if they have enough fight to make it work - or if the pain of betrayal has permanently destroyed their future.

The Review: I couldn't wait to dive into the next instalment of Grant and Harlow's life and finally, One More Chance is released and I have to say, it was a very intense ride!

Grant Carter finally found the girl he never knew he was searching for in Harlow Manning. But he had her and now he's lost her, but he'll do anything to get her back.

Harlow Manning has been sheltered all her life but Grant Carter makes her want more, but with a life threatening illness hanging over her and the turn of events that could mean leaving Grant forever, Harlow does the only thing she can do, she pushes Grant away even if it means making herself unhappy. But with a secret burning inside of Harlow, can her and Grant somehow make their crazy lives work and finally find their happily ever after?

It's no secret how much I enjoy Abbi Glines books and waiting for another book from her is like being a child at Christmas, and One More Chance is just as intense as all her other books, if not maybe even more. I do have to say though, I really wish she would tie the characters stories up all in one book. I don't think they warrant a sequel - as much as I enjoy them - sometimes it just seems like the story is being dragged out.

Anyway, I really enjoy Grant and Harlow as a couple. Yes, it's frustrating because Harlow is always pushing Grant away but I was glad to see her come to her senses quite quickly on during the story. I think the the way the story headed was intriguing and so damn emotional. True to Abbi Glines work, her stories are a tad predictable but it's nice reading a story and knowing what to expect at the end. But more importantly, I loved the Grant redeems himself and stands by Harlow. But I loved their ending, it couldn't have been more perfect.

I'm excited to see what's next in the Rosemary Beach series with You Were Mine. We've already had a little sneak peak into the turmoil that is Bethy and Tripp, so yep, I'm excited!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

A reluctant vampire hunter, stalking New York City as only a scorned bride can.

Elle Dupree has her life all figured out: first a wedding, then her Ph.D., then swank faculty parties where she’ll serve wine and cheese and introduce people to her husband the lawyer.

But those plans disintegrate when she walks in on a vampire sucking the blood from her fiancé, Greg. Horrified, she screams and runs—not away from the vampire, but toward it, brandishing a wooden letter opener.

As she slams the improvised stake into the vampire’s heart, a team of black-clad men bursts into the apartment. Turning to face them, Elle realizes Greg’s body is gone—and her perfect life falls apart.

The Review: Legally Undead is the first book in the ‘Vampirarchy’ series and it was a great introduction into the world of Elle Dupree as she becomes a vampire hunter by circumstance.
Elle is quite happy in her life, studying for her Ph.D. and planning her wedding to her fiancé Greg who is an up and coming lawyer…. Until she arrives home one evening and finds her fiancé in the clutches of a vampire who is currently sucking the life from him, instead of running from the apartment screaming, something clicks in Elle and she runs at the vampire with her trusty wooden letter opener and stakes the sucker! However, just as she does this, the door to her apartment is kicked in and a team of men with information of the attack burst in – they say they’re the clean-up crew but how on earth did they know when & where to turn up? Two things are for sure; 1. Greg’s body has vanished and 2. Elle’s life will never be the same again.
I really enjoyed Legally Undead and found it very easy to read and get into. Elle was a great character to read, you could tell that she was a natural to the life she was thrust into and whilst it did have an impact on her, she seemed to take it all in her stride. I liked her voice throughout the book, she has so many natural reactions that it would be easy to put yourself in her shoes and she injected some humour into the book for some ‘lol’ moments. I liked the team she met and I am curious about all of their stories, we touch a little on some of it but not enough for me and I would like to get to know them all better – Nick was a stand out for me and I liked the way he was there for Elle and how she was brought into the fold. I wasn’t too sold on Malcolm being the love interest, they didn’t seem to gel well enough for me and their intimate scenes didn’t hold a spark, I felt her connection to Nick a lot more and truly thought that he was the more obvious choice for a suitor.
I enjoyed the storyline a lot and even though the book had humour from Elle with her wit, it was actually quite a serious, violent book. The author gives us a slightly different take on vampires and these are by no means a friendly bunch –hence all of the staking- but this is just an introduction, through this you will discover that there are plans on both the vampire & human sides that give you an inkling of a series thread and what the series will be about. We are informed that at some point there was an alliance between the two and it went sour leaving bad blood between the opposing sides. Elle will be the one to investigate all of this in an effort to find out about what her former fiancé was up to but what she uncovers does not leave a good feeling and she questions all she previously knew about Greg, the firm he works for, Vampires, herself….. you name it and she will have to deal with it. What does become clear is that she has a knack for killing vampires, she is ruthless and instinctive and she ends up fitting in well with Nick’s team whose ultimate goal seems to be to bring down the ‘Vampirarchy’. So, if you like a fast paced UF that is exciting, humorous & violent, where the vampires really are a threat, then give this a go, it was great read!

Interview with Emma Raveling.

How did you come up with the idea of Ondines. Personally I've never heard of them so i'm curious as to where you had heard of them from etc....
As someone who reads a great deal of European mythology, I’d seen ondines mentioned several times as a type of water elemental/water nymph, especially in the works of alchemy. But the inspiration for Whirl and the entire series was actually a piece of classical music. The French composer Maurice Ravel composed a work for solo piano called Gaspard de la Nuit. This music was based upon a series of poems by Aloysius Bertrand.

The first movement of Ravel’s work, entitled Ondine, is based upon the poem of the same name by Bertrand. I included this poem as the epigraph in Whirl. Based upon an old French myth, the poem tells the story of Ondine, a water nymph who sings to a mortal man, attempting to lure him to her. He rejects her love and pleas to join her in ruling the water world. Rejected, Ondine fades away, disappearing beneath the waves.

I heard a live performance of Ravel’s Ondine and a haunting image flashed into my mind of a teenage girl standing in the ocean. There was something so lonely about her. But her eyes were powerful - the eyes of a fighter or warrior. Intrigued, I started exploring that idea in my mind and the Ondine Quartet was born.

I do recommend readers of Whirl to listen to Ravel’s Ondine if they get a chance. It beautifully captures the dark, atmospheric, and romantic essence of Bertrand’s poem, and the intricate music immediately calls to mind the tragic image of Ondine.

Did you do a lot of research into the Ondines?
No. Other than studying the basic mythology behind selkies, I didn’t delve much into water elemental/ondine myths because I very much wanted to create my own original mythology for this series. Before I started writing Whirl, I spent a great deal of time creating the Ondine Quartet world, which included everything from the history of the society, magic and special powers, politics and government, the different races of water elementals, and societal and moral values.

I also researched French etymology and the Anglo-Norman historical connection. This was the basis behind many of the terms and names used in the book (race names, location names, character names, etc.), all of which were constructed out of specific meanings and particular word roots.

What was the most challenging thing for you when writing this book ?
There were two things that were quite challenging - writing requires a tremendous amount of time (writers never really stop working) and demands total concentration. I was often surprised at how physically and mentally exhausted I’d get, especially at the end of an intense writing session. Most people don’t realize that writing is not just about the time you spend in front of the computer getting the words out. Part of constructing a novel involves a great deal of thinking time away from the desk.
When I’m in the middle of writing a new work, I’m thinking about the stories and the characters all the time. Even when I’m not writing. Whatever I do during the day (cleaning the house, going out with my husband, cooking, watching a movie, etc.) the story is constantly on my mind. It does make me rather absent-minded. : )
Writing a novel takes everything out of me. Absolute concentration while writing, and full absorption in the story 24 hours a day as you try to work out what you need to write.

Who is your favourite character and why ?
Although I love all my characters, the main character, Kendra, has a special place in my heart. From the beginning, I knew the series was going to be told in first person through the eyes of my heroine as she embarked on this extraordinary adventure. Therefore, I knew that the voice of my protagonist was one of the most important elements of the narrative.

Kendra has never failed to surprise me, and she continues to do so even as I write the next step in her journey. She’s complex, difficult, and possesses both a fierceness and vulnerability that make her a challenge to write. Her exterior toughness and confidence mask a tremendous loneliness that is fascinating for me to explore.

Who is your favourite love interest and why ?
Aah! This is a difficult question to answer. I love Julian and Tristan equally for very different reasons. Both connect with Kendra in unique ways and both men appeal to very different sides of her. The one thing I can say is this - in my own humble opinion, I think the choice a YA heroine makes in love interests is essentially a choice of what kind of adult she wants to be.

Kendra is seventeen. Her journey is not just one of magic and danger, but also one of difficult choices. She must come to terms with responsibilities, life, emotions, and beliefs as she makes the transition to adulthood. Love, in all its forms, is an important part of that journey. It is infinitely complex and not an idea or word I toss around easily in my writing.

Have you put any traits of yourself or people you may know into any of the characters ?
No, not consciously. But I do think writers tend to take bits and pieces of things they’ve perceived or experienced with people and these little pieces unconsciously filters into their work. So certain aspects of my characters were probably influenced by things I’ve seen in my life.

Kendra’s personality is very, very different from mine. But I do relate to her rebelliousness and I definitely went through a defiant, difficult stage as a teenager. At the same time, I don’t think that feeling is unique to me. Teenagers, in some form or another, push rules and boundaries as they begin to question things about their lives. It’s just part of what it means to grow up.

What do you want people to take from the series (eg any message or feeling)?
Books have a wonderful way of revealing something about ourselves. Our reactions to a story - whether we’re moved, excited, saddened, thrilled, discomfited, saddened - are all part of that magical interaction between our experiences, perceptions, and subconscious and what we find and understand in the text.

Whatever message or feelings readers take away from the story is unique to that reader and I wouldn’t want to weaken the impact of that with my own personal reactions.

But I do hope people feel as though reading this series was an experience. Books have a unique way of nestling inside your heart and skin and becoming a part of who you are. I hope their journey alongside Kendra and her friends stays with them in some way.

And if they decide to return to the world of Haverleau and elementals in a future re-read, I hope they’ll feel as if they’re revisiting old friends. Maybe they’ll also rediscover something new about themselves again.

That would be my dream. :)

How do you feel now the series is coming to an end?
It’s an odd combination of excitement and bittersweetness. I’m thrilled to finally share the end of Kendra’s story and bringing my first series to a close is a big deal. There’s a real sense of pride and accomplishment.

But at the same time, there’s a bittersweet quality to it. I’ve lived with Kendra, these characters, and this world for four years now. Ending her story also means ending my journey with her story. There’s a part of me that doesn’t quite want to let go. :)

What have you learnt as an author throughout the process?
What a fantastic question! Trusting my instincts and the way my mind and creative process works is probably the most valuable lesson I learned.

Writing, as a profession, is by its nature very odd. It’s such an isolated act because so much of it is about thinking. It’s about being locked inside of your own head, weaving together arcs and backstories and thematic ideas for all the imaginary people running around in your mind.

And then writers further isolate themselves by locking ourselves up in our little caves and focusing long hours in front of a screen, trying to get all that “thinking” out onto a blank page. Sometimes the story flows easily; other times it feels as though you’re clawing each word out of your brain and every sentence is a fight you have to win.

Finding and listening to my instinctual voice and trusting it to guide me through the development of a story is a challenge and continues to be a journey that requires the flexibility to change and grow. Just when I think I understand something, a new awareness will shock me into the realization that I know nothing. With each book, I discover something new about myself and about my writing process.

What's next from you?
Next up is Lost Blood, the first book in my new mature young adult urban fantasy series, Chancer. Set in a dark world of monsters and magic, it’s an urban fantasy / supernatural series with romantic elements featuring two very different protagonists.

I’m also working on Hidden Current, the prequel novella to Steel Magic, my new urban fantasy series for adults.

I hope to have both out in 2015 once the Ondine Quartet is complete.
